PART A
UNIT I
1 (a) From the fundamentals, derive the expression for sinusoidal current and voltage.
(b) An alternating current is expressed as i = 14.14 sin314t. Determine (i) r.m.s current. (ii) frequency. (iii)
instantaneous current when t = 0.02 ms.

2 (a) Derive the relation between voltage and current for the resistor, inductor and capacitor.
(b) With suitable example, explain how the star connection is transformed to delta.
UNIT II
3 (a) State and prove the maximum power transfer theorem.
(b) The equivalent circuit of a network represented by Theveniss equivalent with VTH = 12 V and RTH = 8 is
connected to a load resistance RL. If the conditions for maximum power transfer exist, determine the (i)
value of RL. (ii) power developed in RL. (iii) efficiency of the circuit.

4 (a) Define hybrid parameters of a two port network and draw its equivalent circuit.
(b) Determine the Y parameters for the bridge T network shown below.

5 (a) Explain how DC generators are classified and mention the voltage expressions.
(b) A 4-pole DC generator has a lap wound armature having 400 conductors. It generates an emf of 300 V
when the flux per pole is 0.02 Wb. Find the speed of rotation of its armature.

6 (a) Derive the torque expression for dc motor.
(b) Explain the constructional details of 3-phase induction motor.

UNIT I
7 (a) Explain the operation of full wave rectifier with center tap transformer and also derive ripple factor and
efficiency.
(b) A full wave rectifier delivers 50 W to a load of 200 . If the ripple factor is 1% calculate the ac ripple voltage
across the load.

9 (a) Explain the input and output characteristics of a transistor in a CE configuration.
(b) For a transistor circuit having , ICBO = ICO = 5 and IB =100 , find IC and IE.
