What Are Lines
What Are Lines
In Art, a line represents many things such as an actual line, a person, or a building. A line can
be thick or thin; straight, wavy, curved or angular; continuous or broken; dotted, dashed, or a
combination of any of these. A line is an identifiable path created by a point moving in space. It
is one-dimensional and can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines often define the edges of
a form. Lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin. They lead
your eye around the composition and can communicate information through their character and
direction.
Types of Lines
1. Static Lines- lines that are generally straight, either vertical or horizontal. Static lines produce
an element of stillness; they're used to depict or "describe" objects at rest. They suggest
firmness and straightforwardness.
