If a student has major difficulties with presenting in front of the class, allow them to create a
movie presentation of their groups dance. Provide the option of working alone for students
who perform better that way. Provide computers or technology for those who need some.

Steps Through the Lesson

Students will be split into groups of four to
five and choose a country to research the
history of a traditional dance there. They
must first get their country approved, and
then they may research to gain an
understanding of the traditional dance the
country is known for. They will familiarize
themselves with the dance style or routine.

Once they have gathered their research,
they must work as a group to replicate a
dance they learned while studying that
country. They will be given time to practice
and learn their dances. They must choose a
song to be in the background while they
perform.

Once every group is finished, they will
perform their dances in front of the class.
These will be graded based on cultural
accuracy as well as participation.
Rationale:
Students will work in groups to help divide up
work and collaborate. They can all bring
different talents or strengths to the table. They
must get heir country approved to make sure
there is enough information and background
to go off of. They also need to get it approved
to make sure everyone has a different country.

Students will research in order to gain
historical accuracy and understanding, as well
as get ideas involving music and moves they
can use for their choreography.
