Annex C

Height of beams
In the beginning of the design of a structure, it is useful to get a quick impression of the required dimensions of the main
components. To estimate the construction height of girders rules of thumb exist that originate from experience and
calculation.

In this syllabus the focus is on roof span structures for halls. For the main girders the rules of thumb are that the ratio l/h
are within certain limits. This is easy at an early stage of the design to get an impression of the girder height which is an
important design item.
