This article is going to help me explain the reasoning behind freshman weight gain. It

explains some of the causes of weight gain such as the temptation to eat what you want when

you want. It also tells us how to avoid gaining weight our freshman year. It explains tips and

lifestyle changes that need to occur in order to prevent weight gain.

Klein, NE and Smith, Jimmy. The Freshman 15: Comparing Change in Weight of Male and

Female Student Athletes during the First Year of College. International Journal of

Exercise Science, 2015.

This article specifically compares males to females in relation to freshman weight gain. The

authors focus on previous studies to further explain the difference between the two. They

mention the college athlete aspect of weight gain, and they concluded that the athletes weight

gain could in fact be healthy.

Kratsas, Gabrielle. 30 Great Ways to Avoid the Freshman 15 and Stay in Shape. Great Value

Colleges. 2016.

In my paper I wanted to be sure to include tips on how to avoid weight gain your first year

of college. This article does a phenomenal job giving readers 30 tip on how to not gain weight.

Not only does she state tips, but she makes a point to go in depth and explain each one.

This is one of the best journals I have found regarding this topic. It focuses on many aspects

of weight gain and goes in great depth to reach a full understanding of it. It gives statistics,

methods, perception, and most importantly, reasons why it is such a problem and what is causing

it. The organization of this journal also helps me find what I want very quickly.

This is another favorite of mine mainly because of the statistics and data that are given. This

one specifically gives numbers and charts and data that you can see. This makes it so much

easier for me as a visual learner to understand the statistics more clearly.
