This map is mapping the distribution of Hispanic Americans by county in the United
States. Clearly, there is a higher proportion of Hispanics around larger cities, such as
Chicago and New York, which is to be expected. There is also a larger proportion of
0 250 500 Miles 0 125 250 Miles Hispanics in the Southwest United States as well as in Florida. This makes sense
because the Southwest United States borders Mexico, so immigrants who cross the
border may tend to stay closer to the border, in an area that seems more like home, rather
than travel farther north into America. Southern Florida also has a very high number of
Hispanics, because it is also a destination for immigrants from Latin America.
