SUCCESS ON PURPOSE
About the Title:
A Believers Guide To Achieving Success On Purpose

It has been said that there are two great tragedies in life. The first is not
knowing your purpose... the answer to the big WHAT on Earth Am I Here
For question raised in Pastor Rick Warrens The Purpose Driven Life. The
second, and potentially an even greater tragedy, is KNOWING your
purpose, but not LIVING it every single day you are alive.
As a believer, you know that the spiritual purpose for your life here on
earth is to love and serve God and all of His creation to His honor and glory.
This Believers Guide, and the accompanying resources, have all been
designed to help you quickly move beyond a basic understanding of your
core purpose to a heightened level of performance so that you can
actually ACHIEVE greater SUCCESS in every area of your life: Spiritually,
Personally, and Professionally.
Our objective in developing this measurable, systematic process for
Spirit-Led Success is to give you an exciting new Starting Point for
making the rest of your life the best of your life... starting right now... not
someday later down the line. You might even think of the process you will
be experiencing as Personal Improvement With Divine Guidance!
With The Lord standing right at your side and the Spirit of the Lord
within you as you work through the materials, you will start to put your life
in proper perspective and, maybe for the first time ever, feel a strong sense
of calling, passion and direction that may have been missing in your life.
By the time you have completed Session 10, you will be given two of the
most important drivers of success known to man: Direction and Directions.
Although we believe we were, in no small way, prompted by God to
create this Believer's Guide, The Power of TQ and Success On Purpose, we
would never offer these books as sources of spiritual revelation or religious
guidance. Under no circumstances are the authors trying to take away from
the Power that is found in the God's Holy Word. With that said, we also have
come to know that by taking the Gospel and combining it with The
Believers Guide as a resource ministry tool, we have helped people find an
authentic direction and natural mission for their lives.
We humbly offer these materials as enabling tools for your spiritual
journey tools designed to confirm your true realization of God's purpose
for your life and to guide you as you take the actions necessary to achieve
your most important missions in life for His glory.

i A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

About The Subtitle:
Winning Your Five Most Important Missions In Life

Without question, God wants you to be a success the Holy Bible,

Gods Word, tells us so. This Guide is here to help you achieve that
success... to become all that you are meant to be... a true WINNER in every
sense of the word.
As followers of Christ, you know that Someone else won the battle over
sin, the flesh and the devil for you: Jesus. It is because of the victory of
Jesus that you may win at life now while looking forward to your home in
heaven with Him.

Each one should use whatever gift he has

received to serve others, faithfully administer-
ing Gods grace in its various forms. If anyone
speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very
words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it
with the strength God provides, so that in all
things God may be praised through Jesus
Christ. To him be the glory and the power for
ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
As winners because of Christ, we are to serve God and others in the
power of Christ. Once you truly believe that your purpose in life is to serve,
you soon realize that your entire life could be lived in various missions of
service. Therefore, it could be said there is no end to the number of
potential missions that you may be led to accomplish first and foremost
for God, then for yourself (in order to become the best you can be), for your
family and friends, your church, community and the world at large and
to seek ways to acquire the financial resources needed to achieve each
mission.
So much work to do and so little time! While all is certainly possible
with God's help, you cant do it all at the same time. So where in the world
should you spend your precious time?
The overarching purpose of our Spirit-Led Approach to Success is to
help you, through prayerful meditation and a deep connection with Gods

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE ii
purpose for your life, identify your most important missions missions
that will give you the greatest opportunity to serve... the greatest sense of
meaning and importance... and the greatest feelings of happiness,
satisfaction and significance for a life well lived.
Some of Gods children are born with a powerful sense of mission and
direction and absolutely know what part they are to play in this life.
Some hear Gods voice as if it were an ear-piercing command telling them
exactly what to do and how to do it. Others hear a gentle whisper, a quiet
knowing, or feel a spiritual push in the direction of their dreams.
Even if you feel God has never spoken directly to you, be assured that
He not only has given you the Bible as a handbook for living, but has also
given you several strong hints to help you discern what His design may
entail for your life. He has ALREADY given you:
The most cherished values of your heart.
A combination of gifts and talents right down to your
DNA that make up the unique You.
A unique life context defined by your lifes situations and
the experiences you have gained from those situations
both good and bad.
The means to accomplish the tasks He leads you to perform
because of His Presence, power and ability to provide all
you need to accomplish His will for your life.
What a gift! What a joy to know, with absolute conviction, that you
already have everything you need to achieve success beyond your hopes
and dreams. God has blessed you with both His promise and the means to
fulfill that promise.
This Guide promises to give you the directions you need to turn your
God-given talents into the skills needed to truly WIN what we have dubbed
your Five MOST Important Missions in life five key areas of your life
within which you will identify, define and create new ways to live for Christ
this side of eternity. We have done this to assist you in reducing the entire
world of possibilities down to those that are most meaningful for you to
consider. This is also done as a teaching aid so that as you progress through
this work in the fellowship of other like-minded mission seekers, you can
help one another learn the simple process of creating missions on
demand.
Please take a moment to glance at the image on the front cover. You will
see five circles with a cross in the middle. The symbolism of the cover, and
the objective of this work, is to put Christ at the center of all the missions
you take on especially the following five...

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE iv
Preface:
By Dr. John Edmund Haggai
Haggai Center For Advanced Leadership

The authors created this important volume out of a profound

aspiration to help Christian believers live their life in Christ to the full.
They fully recognize that only Gods grace revealed through Jesus
Christ made possible our salvation. They also realize we must honor Him
by living out that salvation. The apostle Paul told the Philippian
Christians to work out your own salvation (Philippians 2:12).
They were not to work for their salvation. Salvation is only by grace
through faith. They were to work out that salvation.
The word translated work out is used by the first century author,
Strabo, to speak of digging silver out of silver mines. Salvation can be
compared to a huge gift that needs to be unwrapped for the believers
thorough enjoyment.
I knew Napoleon Hill well. He authored the best-selling book, Think
and Grow Rich. The Wall Street Journal wrote that book had created
millionaires.
Then came Paul J. Meyer, a believer, with his Success Motivation
Institute. His program motivated the users to their full potential. He
included a program with action steps and time lines. He thus superseded
Napoleon Hill.
Now we have Think TQ (Time Quotient) which gives one the Gold
Standard measurement of actions taken. Its a day-by-day motivator and
measurer of actions actions designed to move the user toward
intentional excellence.
Happily in 2012, the authors of Think TQ have produced the
Believers Guide to Achieving Success On Purpose (Winning Your Five Most
Important Missions in Life). It lays out the actions every believer should
take. Even more importantly, it provides the measurement system for
them to know their progress. They can evaluate their progress on a never-
ending continuum.

v A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

The apostle Peter instructs believers to grow in grace, and in the
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (II Peter 3:18). How can
a believer possibly know if he/she has grown unless they have a
measurement system? This book delineates the system.
Again, the apostle Paul writes to the believers at Ephesus: For by
grace are you saved by faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of
God, not of works lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9).
What could be plainer? But dont stop there. Read the next verse:
For we are His workmanship created by Christ Jesus unto good
works. Ephesians 2:10a
The Greek word for workmanship is poima from which we get the
word poem. Your life writes a line, my life writes a line, as do the works of
other believers. God wants the poem to be lyrical, symmetrical.
This volume instructs the reader how to act in such a way.

The 144 pages will captivate you. You wont be able to ignore the
content. You will find it useful, inspirational, and motivational. Acting on
it will glorify God through behavior consonant with Scripture.
I plan to distribute copies of this book.

Sage Advice:

There is no such thing as a lack

of faith. We all have plenty of

faith, its just that we have faith

in the wrong things. We have

faith in what cant be done

We have faith in lack rather than

Winning The Five Most Important Missions in YOUR Life:
By Eric R. Haas, CEO ThinkTQ, Inc. & Principal Author of
The Power of TQ and 10 Choices of Intentional Excellence
and Success On Purpose

June 12, 2012

Please allow me to open this Introduction with a simple assurance and

a prayer. First the ASSURANCE: God wants you to be successful. He wants
you to prosper, not spend the only life you have to live on things that simply
do not matter. Here is what He says in 1 Chronicles 29:11-12:
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and
honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are
strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
Now, with this assurance top of mind, I offer up a simple prayer for
wisdom and direction penned by my dear friend Lee Wise:

Father, I ask for Your help. I want to become

the person You want me to become through this
study. I want to use my time here to live, love
and perform the deeds You want me to do. And
with that in mind, strengthen me to sense and
follow Your leading during my journey. By
Your grace and power may my life be a living
Thank You! for all You have given to me in
Christ. In His Name I pray, Amen.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 1
A Short Story...

Id like to start with a short story of how this Believers Guide to Success
On Purpose came to be. The Guide you hold in your hands, and the
fellowship it inspires, is the culmination of 17 years of scientific research,
millions of dollars of development and thousands of conversations with
ministers of every nature. It is my belief that if there has ever been a secular
product that is God inspired, this is it.
Please allow me to explain...

As CEO of ThinkTQ, Inc., I am constantly being asked by ministers to

introduce our TQ personal training programs to their congregations... to
give their people a systematic process for getting out of their pews and align
their hearts, minds and hands with Gods plan for their success.
In fact, my dear friend, John Edmund Haggai, tells me that, next to my
wonderful wife Jan, he is the biggest supporter of Success on Purpose in the
world! He believes that it holds amazing potential to help people actually
LIVE the Gospel of Jesus Christ rather than just read the words, then do
nothing more. No question, getting people to ACT with power, passion and
purpose is the Amaranthine (Eternally beautiful, everlasting, unfading) goal
of every Pastor, but making this happen is challenging to say the least.
For example, about a year ago I received a call from a newly ordained
minister who had just received his Doctor of Divinity Degree from Trinity
College at Oxford University in the United Kingdom (the oldest university
in the world, founded in 1096). He was an American studying abroad who
received his first calling from a troubled church back here in the States.
While surfing the web, he found us at ThinkTQ.com quite by accident.
He called me to ask some questions about how our Power of TQ System
could be used to inspire his people to do better in their daily lives while
helping him improve church attendance. His church was going through
some tough times, and the people sitting in front of him as he preached each
Sunday were hurting: economically, emotionally and spiritually.
He confided with me that as he looked out from his pulpit, he saw a
congregation of broken hopes and dreams. It had been discouraging enough
that the previous pastor had just burned out and stepped down. While
young and filled with the heart of God, he too was having doubts about how
to turn things around, given the fact that his community was in the rust
belt and hit hard by the Great Recession.
Put simply, he wanted to know if we had a package that would help
people reconnect and recommit to their faith, improve their lives and get
them moving from where they were now into a more positive direction.
2 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Curious to know more of his need, I asked him what he saw from his
pulpit and how he felt as he looked upon the faces in his congregation each
Sunday. As we talked, I took notes.
To some extent, it may be the same in every church. But this is what he
saw as he looked into the faces of his diverse congregation:
An overwhelmed single mom of two young girls working two
jobs... losing hope by the month as she struggles to make
ends meet...
The empty glaze in the eyes of a man of 57 who had just
been right sized out of his professional job... and is now a
temp at Home Depot assembling grills and gazebos...
A heartbroken 52-year-old woman who just lost her
husband of 30 years who was her only real companion...
and now she feels so lost and alone...
A struggling, newly married couple in their twenties...
facing staggering student-loan debt and all they have to
show for their education so far, is a three inch stack of job
rejection letters...
A middle-aged couple who are in marriage counseling for
the third time... trying to find a shared sense of value and
purpose... a reason to keep their marriage alive...
An older couple who own a mom-and-pop grocery store,
praying for a miracle each Sunday... struggling to keep
their little shop alive... slowly working themselves to
death...
A woman who has reached a management position in her
company... now looking for a bigger challenge... and a
whole lot more meaning in her life than what she has gotten
in return for her hard work so far...
Highly skilled men and women returning from service in
the Gulf... and no jobs to return to...
People battling clinical depression... battling cancer...
battling alcoholism... battling all forms of medical issues
who need to look beyond their illnesses... and find a
REASON for hope... a REASON to put their whole heart
and soul into their daily battles.
People who have given up all HOPE for living their
dreams... people who have lost the COURAGE to see
themselves WINNING... people who have started to believe
that the worst of life is inevitable... and theres nothing they
can do to turn their lives around.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 3
Finally, he concluded with the comment, Its not good here right now,
but with the help of the Lord, we will persevere.
Do you want to just persevere, or do you want to help your people shift
from where they are now to a whole new Starting Point for success? I
asked. Big difference, you know, between just getting by and living a life
filled to the brim with passion and purpose.
There was a long pause on the other end of the phone; and then he said,
Of course I want my people to fill their lives with great success, but right
now maybe getting by is the best we can hope for, he offered.
Maybe, I said, but if you want to help your people to achieve greater
success, a greater connection to their faith, a more fulfilling family life and
a successful work life, there is something you can do.
You can help each and every person in your church to meditate and
pray for the clarity of knowing what they truly value more than anything
else. Then you can help them crystalize those values into specific visions
for how they can live those values. By doing this, you can then help them
make a commitment to themselves and to others to do what then obviously
needs to be done to achieve those dreams and visions. Finally, you can help
them unleash the natural courage that grows within every person who is
focused on taking action to achieve his most important missions in life.
As the conversation continued, I told him that my business partner and
I had written a book positioned as a sequel to The Purpose Driven Life
called Success On Purpose that explains what I had just suggested in far
greater detail. With newfound hope, he ordered several copies and
promised to share them with each person in his small church.
When I hung up, I knew I had made a difference in this mans life, but
my heart was aching for his ministry and his people. I was overcome by the
sadness, the despair and the tragic loss of hope and belief that is so
prevalent in this world today. Here was a man who desperately wanted to
help his flock, but was out of ideas. No question, I thought, if he takes
Success On Purpose seriously and they do the work he and his
congregration will come out of this stronger and better prepared for lifes
inevitible ups and downs.
Had the demand for a spiritual guide to success stopped there, you
and I probably wouldnt be having this conversation right now. But, it
didnt.

4 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

A few months ago, I received a similar call from a man named Gregory
Cunningham who was in the initial stages of creating a Success Ministry in
northern Texas... a man truly called by God to a mission of service to the
hurting, the downhearted people losing hope in achieving the success
and abundance they were praying for. I am including this incident here
because it is both relevant to the development of this Guide and it is a
testament of what can happen when a man is on a clearly defined mission
with the conviction of doing whatever is needed to succeed.
Gregorys phone call was the result of his following the processes inside
Success On Purpose. By doing the work as instructed, together with a deeply
personal conversation with God, he was able to clarify his personal values
of faith, service and family and extend them into a crystal clear vision of
creating a ministry that will save marriages, save families and quite literally
save peoples lives. This vision includes his desire to give men and women
the ability to dream again and help them see exactly whats holding them
back from being and achieving their personal best each and every day.
Greg had come across the ThinkTQ.com website several years ago and,
using our systematic approach to personal excellence, found a way to
completely turn his life around... from full blown depression, past
brokenness and despair to hope and outstanding achievement in what he
detailed as five key areas: his Faith, his Personal growth, his Relationships,
his Church and his Career.
Since then, Greg had become convinced the Lord had called him to
develop a Life Group / Small Study Group Seminar Series for his church.
He was attempting to create a process for uniting the Holy Bible... the ideas
in Success On Purpose... and the systematic methodologies found in The
Power of TQ and the 10 Choices of Intentional Excellence.
He referred to his ministry as being Innovative in Methodology and
Traditional in Theology for helping People Believe and Achieve Success
and doing it On Purpose.
He told me that his Mission for his Success Ministry was to:
Reduce the number of Divorces in America by 85%.
End Fatherlessness in America.
Suppress the Number of Pastors leaving the ministry due to
burnout by 90%.
Double the size of every church in America in the next 24
months.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 5
WOW, I thought and asked the million-dollar question, What
ROLE will you personally play to make this happen?
He told me his Empowering Roles will be.
Contributor of spiritual guidance and content for the
seminar.
Leader, of the first study group to complete a 10-session
Believers Guide to Achieving Success On Purpose.
Promoter of the success achieved by the first small group to
the remainder of his church.
Sower of seeds of seminars across the country creating
thousands of additional believers who learn to execute
brilliantly as they live their personal values and achieve
their most important missions in life.
Gregorys passion and conviction to see his company, Success
International Ministries, Inc. become a reality gave him the courage to
reach out to us to develop this Believers Guide. It was also what convinced
me that he was serious about establishing a business/ministry partnership
with which Kent and I would be proud and honored to be involved.
As proof of what a God-loving man can do when he is on a God-given
mission, within three months after Gregorys call, we had produced the very
first draft of this Bible-centric, 10-Session Guide. (Wow talk about
Spirit-Led Success!) Follow along, and you will find the ideas, help, tools,
and answers you have been seeking for how, with Gods help, you can
achieve greater success in your life too.
A Ministry of Vision...

For the record, I am NOT a called and ordained minister, but I do have
a calling. I am a serial entrepreneur having started, bought, sold and
merged 20 different businesses from manufacturing, finance, insurance,
computers, software, Internet publishing, etc. during my first 66 trips
around the sun.
By most accounts, my successes have been far greater than my failures,
so I consider myself a battle-hardened veteran in the business world who
earned his success the old fashioned way: Working Smart while Working
Hard. As you will learn shortly, my calling to serve came a few years ago
and is the reason the big WHY you are now holding this workbook
in your hands. By understanding the story behind the development of these
materials, you will better understand why I believe this process is actually
Gods work... and why I believe He wants you to get after it.

6 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Since late May 1994, my companies have helped millions of people
achieve far greater success in their lives, both personally and
professionally.
This is not by coincidence: It is by design.

Every product we develop, every piece of software we create, and every

book we publish is designed for a singular purpose: to help people instantly
SEE whats holding them back from producing greater results so they
can eliminate it. My old friend Alan Kay said it best, Point of view is worth
80 IQ points. Obviously, if you cant see the pitfalls, bottlenecks and
obstructions to your progress, you cant move forward. Enhance your
VISION so you can actually SEE what you must do differently and
you immediately become smarter, instantly increasing your probability of
success.
Our design, development and production values make it impossible for
us to just throw out some new-age psychobabble or a package of
philosophy, ideas, opinions, or secrets and hope people will just follow
them. We believe, with every fabric of our being, that we must actually help
people work through the very complex issues in their lives not just learn
more about the problem... or talk about the problem... but to actually
SOLVE the problem.
We believe our calling to be a ministry of Vision of unraveling the
inherently complex, intertwined and interrelated problems people face
each day breaking them down and breaking them apart so you can
actually SEE what you are dealing with. Once you can SEE what needs to
be done, you can then devise a plan to make it happen. Until then, you will
be blindsided by circumstances, happenstances and everything else that
tends to torpedo your success.
Put simply, we have the tools and technology to reduce your most
complex problems to a series of measurable, systematic, methodical, step-
by-step procedures... that consistently lead to the results desired.
Our Mission is to help you become the best YOU possible to help
you hone your God-given talents into highly productive skills that you will
then use to achieve all your dreams and goals. In fact, the materials you will
be using for the next 10 sessions are specifically designed to methodically
lead you to an entirely new Starting Point for long-term success.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 7
Please understand: this is not hype.

I tell you this to make a big point! By actively participating in each of

these 10 sessions, doing the personal work and challenging your own long-
held perceptions, you will cut through the blur of your daily life and begin
to SEE your life from an entirely different perspective.
You will SEE the possibility of a brand-new future appear. And by
seeing more clearly, you will also discover what you can do to not only Live
Your Best Life Now, as Pastor Joel Osteen advises, but to make the REST
of your life the BEST of your life.
Included in your package with this Believers Guide is our seminal work,
Success On Purpose: The Starting Point for a Life of Happiness, Satisfaction
and Significance and a certificate for receiving your personal, made-to-
order copy of The Power of TQ and 10 Choices of Intentional Excellence.
As you will soon learn, these books and their companion audio editions
were not created lightly. Not by a long shot.
I believe with all my heart that the hand of God was upon us in the
creation of these materials not as in His divine writing of the Scriptures,
of course but in the leading of our hands as we put it together for you.
I affirm this to be so because of how this project was given birth and the
manifold positive changes we have seen in the lives of people who have
gone through this work, and we give Him the glory!
A Believers Guide to Achieving Success On Purpose was created to give
you the tools, technology, systems, and procedures all in one place to
move your life forward faster than you ever dreamed possible. We designed
this 10 session (approximately just 30 short hours in duration) experience
so you can not only take a spiritual WALK hand in hand with God
but learn how to RUN the marathon we call the game of life... and win it!
Beyond HOPE, we are delivering a whole new
process to success that we call The Winners Mindset.

Without question, we are already winners in the eyes of God because

of His grace. Having paid the price for our sins, we will see His complete
victory over sin in the end, and we are able to claim that victory this side of
heaven by the daily choices we make through the power of His saving
grace.
We know that by Grace, the price has been paid. Our sins forgiven.
Spiritually, we believers have been saved and have won the battle of good
over the forces of evil.

8 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

But, while we are still drawing breath here on earth, we must also win
our personal missions... to give our lives the meaning and significance
attached to doing Gods will... to achieve happiness and the peace of mind
that comes from knowing that we have, each day, done the best that is
within us.
I remember when I was studying the catechism to become a good
Lutheran way back in 1960. Towards the end of the class, Reverend
Zimmerman asked us a simple but profound question, How will you honor
God? Unfortunately I was the last to be asked, so all the good answers
were already taken: Help build the new Sunday school... bake a pie each
week for the bake sale... greet members and pass out the inserts as they
walk into church... etc.
When my turn to answer came up, he asked Eric, how will you honor
God? Without hesitation I piped up...
By becoming the best ME possible. I figure He put me here to do
something, but what, I dont have a clue yet. So, it seems He would be
disappointed if I didnt use my gifts and talents wisely... so each day I will
improve myself.
Reverend Zimmerman was an Old School, fire and brimstone preacher
who rarely, if ever, smiled. In fact, we kids thought he was actually born
with that stony, stern gaze that he leveled in the direction of anyone who
remotely invoked his wrath, which, of course, I frequently did.
The classroom was dead silent when I started to see a crack in the
facade and a smile start to form. His eyes lit up, and he actually laughed!
You got it, Eric; you got it! Thats what God truly wants... for you to
become the best you possible... and he will stand by you for the rest of your
life as you face your ups and downs... your trials and tribulations.
You will become a living testament to his great plan. But, remember,
there can be no testament without putting yourself to the test.
I tell you this story because it has set the stage for everything I have
done in my life. Each day, my companies and I INTENTIONALLY strive
for EXCELLENCE... to become better and help others do so as well.
If you believe, as I believe, that with God all things are possible, then
achieving greater success and doing it on purpose is not only possible, but
with His help and the right set of tools, it is inevitable.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 9
As you will learn in substantial depth inside The Power of TQ, it is your
power to actually produce the Results you want over Time that ultimately
drives your successes, both personally and professionally. The great news
is that this power can be easily measured and improved using our TQ Tests
and systems.
We have made the TQ Test available to you as a part of this package
and recommend you take your test prior to your first session. There is a
separate Certificate that came inside the box containing this Guide with the
instructions for taking your test.
After you complete your TQ Test and receive your custom printed,
personal edition of The Power of TQ, you will SEE exactly what you must
do differently to improve your performance and become a great deal more
successful in everything you do. How specifically?
By Looking at Your Performance
Through The Worlds First Time Prism...

To help you cut through the blur of your performance, we developed the
worlds first Time Prism a simple color-coded tool designed to help you
instantly see how well you are performing at any point in time.
Like holding a prism up to white light, The Time Prism breaks your
performance into 10 color-coded areas of your performance:
1. Your physical and mental ENERGY level...
2. Your sense of MISSION, passion and purpose...
3. Your ATTITUDE (are you a possibility thinker or
an old No it all)...
4. Your ability to SET GOALS in alignment with your Missions...

10 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

5. Your ability to MAKE PLANS to support your Goals...
6. Your ability to PRIORITIZE the steps in your Plans...
7. Your power to create a force multiplier in your life through
powerful interpersonal SYNERGY...
8. Your ability to get and stay ORGANIZED...
9. Your ability to OPTIMIZE your precious time...
10. Your propensity to take bold ACTION to
achieve your visions and live your values.
These 10 colors must all burn brightly for you to succeed. When you
improve these 10 colors, you immediately improve your power to produce
tangible results and to become the BEST YOU possible!
Our passion our mission is to witness the growth, excitement and
positive results you are capable of producing as you learn how to turn up
these core areas of your performance and increase your power to achieve
your most important missions.
FACT: To achieve your purpose, you must perform on purpose...

While exceptionally well covered in both Chapters 3 and 4 of Success

On Purpose, there is a point I want to emphasize here. There are two great
tragedies in life:
The First: Not knowing your purpose.
The Second: Knowing your purpose but not fully
living it each and every day.
The significance of this observation was revealed to me in the following
way. Shortly after we invented the Time Prism and developed the worlds
first TQ Test (to measure peoples Time Quotient), we launched
ThinkTQ.com to test how well people around the globe produced Results
over Time.
By coincidence, our new Web site was introduced about the same time
Pastor Rick Warren rolled out his Purpose Driven Church initiative where
he put ThinkTQ.com on his Ricks Cool Picks CD sent to ministers.
Almost immediately after Pastor Rick sent out his CD, thousands of
ministers from every type of church conceivable (Catholic, Baptists,
Lutheran, Episcopal, Methodist, Unitarian, and the Nondenominational to
name a few) took their personal TQ Tests and ordered a copy of The Power
of TQ and 10 Choices of Intentional Excellence.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 11
Thats when the calls started to pour in each week. I just got my book
and I have a few questions was the typical response. I see where I
STAND, but where do I START to improve my numbers and myself?
Great question! Wish I had the answer, I thought to myself back then.
I especially remember a call from a customer who was a Navy
Chaplain. He was wildly excited about using our materials in his ministry
to help service members returning from the war in the Gulf get back on
track. Pastor Dan, The Go To Man as he called himself, was counseling
about 20 men and women in his church basement, and all but one member
scored substantially less than 40 on their TQ Tests.
Where do I tell them to START to get their numbers up? Dan asked.
Right then, I felt a hand on my shoulder and the words, Tell him to
start with Mission, came upon me. I looked around, and, of course, there
was nobody else in my office but me.

WOW, I thought. God specifically taking a tech-

support call and telling me how to help Pastor Dan.
What a gift to have Him on my team!
After delivering the equivalent of a 15-minute sermon on the
importance of starting with the Mission Color to improve your performance,
I hung up the phone and scribbled down 20 to 30 pages of notes that
ultimately became the first draft of Success On Purpose.
In TQ we had a measurement system that clearly showed people what
they were doing right, what they were doing wrong and what they must do
differently to achieve outstanding success. People were taking the test and
they could easily see WHY they needed to improve each of their 10 colors.
Yet, they just couldnt SEE where to START.
So, the burning question became, HOW?

What is that spark that ignites your mind, body and soul and incites
exemplar performance? This question appeared to us as a problem at first,
but one that soon turned into a true blessing of inspiration.
As a matter of fact, we asked and answered this question over and over
again until we had written a whole new book entitled Success On Purpose
and devoted an entire chapter to explaining the scientific causality... why
a highly evolved, virtually unstoppable sense of MISSION is the
STARTING POINT for all success.

12 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

It is your sense of MISSION and purpose that turns your inner drive
into overdrive... which causes you to turn up all 10 Colors within your
performance spectrum and drives you up towards success.
Where you have a weak sense of Mission and purpose, your 10 colors
tend to fall and you flame out as you drift hopelessly down toward failure.
(In Chapter 2 and 3 of Success on Purpose, we actually PROVE this to you.)
When Pastor Rick Warren released The Purpose Driven Life, he
subtitled it What on Earth Am I Here For? Without doubt, this is a huge
question and demands an answer from each of us, each in our own way.
In Chapters 36 to 40 (Purpose #5) Pastor Rick concluded You were
made for a Mission, and we believe that God fully expects you to take on
this Mission and achieve it. This, of course, leads us to a question that is
much larger both in scope and complexity:
Just HOW in the world am I going to make this happen?!

Yes, this is a giant, life-changing, all-encompassing question, isnt it?

How am I to achieve my Missions and LIVE my Purpose if not by
performing on purpose?
So, in a very real sense, you must perform as if your life depends upon
it, because it does. Once you know the big WHY of your life if you truly
intend to serve God and the church at large you must then answer
BOTH, the specific WHAT-needs-to-be-done and the bigger HOW-will-
you-get-it-done questions.
As our customer base expanded, it became obvious that the work we
did when we created the Mission Color inside The Time Prism was not
sufficient for people to truly get it. Not only did we discover that everyone
was scoring tragically low on the Mission color, they werent even aware of
the huge drag this one Color was having on their life.
In fact, by the time The Purpose Driven Life was published, we were
being flooded with calls from people who had completed their 40 Days of
Purpose walk, and needed crystal-clear, step-by-step instructions on how to
actually LIVE a life of purpose.
Thus, Success On Purpose is our answer for how to simplify this
complex problem down to the point where we can tell you exactly HOW
with God standing by your side you can achieve extraordinary success
in the most important missions in your life.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 13
A New Starting Point...

By uniting your Bible-based faith with the content in both Success On

Purpose and The Power of TQ, you will renew and reenergize your
commitment to a life of passion and purpose.
These are not buzzwords or empty promises. They are our stated
objective for this living process; and by the end of these 10 sessions, we
expect you will be actually achieving the success you have been looking for.
Yes, God has been with us hand in hand over the years as we developed
the tools you will be using to achieve the Four Cs of The Winners Mindset:
Absolute CLARITY of Values, Vision and Roles...
Total CONVICTION that what you are doing is the RIGHT
thing to be doing...
Unconditional COMMITMENT to your dreams and goals...
And the unwavering COURAGE to actually LIVE your
values and achieve your VISIONS.
As you gather in small groups to do this work, remember the PROMISE
behind The Great Commission made by Jesus as written in Matthew
18:20...
For where two or three come together in my
name, there am I with them.
Remember this as you participate: You are not in this ALONE. We are
all in this TOGETHER.
Jesus will be in the room as you seek to CLARIFY your VALUES and
identify what has the greatest meaning and importance to you. This will be
your opportunity to find the Authentic YOU rather than continue to live
somebody elses values.
Jesus will have his Divine hand on your shoulder as you seek to
CLARIFY your VISION for whats possible for your life, your family and
your church. Trust in Him, have Faith and allow Him to expand your Vision
of future possibilities and potentialities.
Jesus will direct you as you seek to CLARIFY the various ROLES you
play in life, recognizing that it is critical for you to get this RIGHT.
Spending your precious life in dull, unrewarding Roles is not
something Jesus wants for you. He wants you to actually LIVE your
Missions, and He knows the only way for that to happen is for you to accept,
create and nourish empowering Roles within which you can do your good
work.
14 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
He will be there with a quiet smile on His radiant face as you find true
CONVICTION that you WILL achieve your Visions and LIVE your Values
in each and every empowering Role you take on.
For many, this will be the scary part, but know He is there in these
sessions as you form your COMMITMENTS to this bright new future... to
set your goals directly aligned with your Missions and make your plans to
support those goals.
And like the Bible Heroes you will walk with for the next 10 Sessions,
(in each session, we have included Bible examples of men and women who
ACHIEVED their missions by performing on purpose). He will bulk up
your COURAGE to overcome the natural hurdles you will face to break
out... break through... and break free of any limitations you might feel.
No question, He will be there. Yes, He will do His part as you do yours.
Summary...

When we were asked to develop this Believers Guide, I asked a simple

question the one I ask every time we take on a new project.
What are the RESULTS expected?
After maybe 30 to 40 hours of discussion, it became clear that our
success would not be measured by simply giving you HOPE or
Inspiration... that is much too small an expectation for you investing so
much of your life with this package.
No, with Gods help, we fully expect to deliver an actual
TRANSFORMATION... you SEEING your life through a different set of
lenses... you seeing your power of achievement expand... you putting Christ
at the center of your MOST important Missions and putting you at the
Starting Point for truly making the REST of your life the BEST of your life.
This process has worked for me, for Kent, for Gregory and thousands
before you outside a church setting. My expectation is that, by using the
extended Hand of Christ as your study buddy, you will exceed even our
greatest expectations.
I urge you with everything in my being to take action: prayerful,
consistent action.
Follow the lesson plans for each session.
Do the work outlined for you to complete.
Use the tools we provide for you.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 15
When you do...

You will achieve a heightened level of CLARITY.

You will achieve a heightened level of CONVICTION.
You will achieve a heightened level of COMMITMENT.
You will achieve a heightened level of COURAGE.
Follow, do and use is a simple plan of action that can lead you to an
exciting new starting point for long term success however you may
define it: spiritually, emotionally or financially.
There are tens of millions of people that have been through Rick
Warrens Purpose Driven Life and now know WHY they are here on Earth.
You may be blessed to be one of them.
My humble prayer is that this Believers Guide to Achieving Success On
Purpose may continue that spiritual conversation for you and assist you in
arriving at your unique answer to the broader question, Just HOW in the
world am I going to make that happen? Yes, the HOW is as important as
the WHY.
But, without spoiling the ending for you, let me reduce the HOW
question down to just four words. With God by your side, you will learn
HOW to consistently...
Expect More ~ Execute Better

It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life

doesnt lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies
in having no goal to reach. It isnt a calamity to die
with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to
dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture
your ideal, but it is a disaster to have no ideal to
capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars,
but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.
Not failure, but low aim is a sin.

Reverand Benjamin E. Mays

16 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

High Expectations ~ Brilliant Execution

These four words hold the key to actually ACHIEVING your five most
important missions in life. Constantly EXPAND your VISION and raise
your EXPECTATIONS. Then, EXECUTE beyond EXPECTATIONS.
Reverand Mays got it right: Low aim is a sin. God Expects more from
us. He didnt put us here on Earth to fritter our life away. He wants us to
LIVE our values... not just talk about them. He wants us to EXPAND our
visions... not play small. He wants us to fully EMPOWER each of our most
important roles... to dream big dreams again... with the full expectation of
realizing them.
Yes, He wants you to become the best YOU possible, to become a
SUCCESS and do it On PURPOSE. Our role in this is to give you Authentic
Direction and the power to fast-track that success.
Which leads me to my last big point... our focus on your Personal
Power. It is vital that you understand the clear distinction between Divine
Power and your Personal Power to produce tangible results.
Spirit-Led Success: The Heightened Capacity to Love, Serve and Glorify...
As you will learn as you progress through The Believers Guide, it is the
connection between your Divine Faith and Purpose combined with your
personal ability to Perform on Purpose that permits us to not only LIVE
in Gods Grace, but to actually deliver on His Divine Commission to
LOVE... SERVE... and GLORIFY Him.
No question, performance requires the POWER to produce tangible
RESULTS over TIME (your Time Quotient or TQ), which is what we are
addressing here. Thus, once you have been CALLED to a Purpose, it is not
enough to just think good thoughts about it, you have to DO something
about it... to perform as if your very life depends on it, because it does.
Yes, this is in fact a life or death issue. Since none of us are getting out
of this life ALIVE, making THIS life a living testament to His Glory and
Service is the entire essence of Performing on Purpose... and becoming a
Spirit-Led Success!
Love, Serve, Glorify: Values or Verbs?
Many Christians see these words as VALUES, and merely pay lip
service to them. We see these words as VERBS ACTION WORDS
that must be put into ACTION in order to actually LIVE them each and
every day we are alive. If we don't, we are alive but we do not LIVE in the
Spirit.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 17
"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It
has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see
misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows
of men. That is what love looks like."
He also advised, "Pray as though everything depended on
God. Work as though everything depended on you."

~ Saint Augustine
Improving your TQ (Time Quotient) is a very big deal. At ThinkTQ.com
(our testing and training web site) we measure and improve your capacity
to take bold ACTION... to LIVE your VALUES and ACHIEVE your
VISIONS. TQ is a vital discipline based on the US Olympics Training
Progression: MASTERING your FUNdamentals (TQ = 60+)... TRAINING
to train (TQ = 70+)... TRAINING to compete (TQ = 80+)... and ultimately,
TRAINING to WIN (TQ = 90+).
If you want to actually WIN your 5 most important Missions, as Christ
expects of you, you simply must have the POWER to produce positive
RESULTS over TIME. (Thus our formula for achievement: TQ = R/T.)
Power: Energy In Action.
We recognize God's Infinite POWER over Heaven and Earth. When we
use the word power, we use it in the purely physical sense, a measurement
of your personal power to produce Work over Time (P=W/T) or in physics,
Power = Energy over Time (P=E/T.)
Steven R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
observed that Power is the faculty or capacity to act, the strength and
potency to accomplish something. It is the vital energy to make choices and
decisions. It also includes the capacity to overcome deeply embedded
habits and to cultivate higher, more effective ones. I believe that this
definition is correct from both a spiritual and physical perspective.
So, if you are deeply committed to God's Divine PURPOSE for your
life... deeply committed to actually LIVING the Word... deeply committed
to ACHIEVING His plan for your life... then you have no alternative but to
become the best YOU possible by increasing your capacity to LOVE...
your POWER to SERVE and the strength of the ACTIONS you take for His
Glory. Because, as St. Teresa of Avila (1515 - 1582) so beautifully observed,
Christ Has No Body On Earth...

18 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
Spirit-Led Leadership...
In a beautiful and profound way, on your journey to becoming a Spirit-
Led Success you will first become s Spirit-Led Leader in your business...
your career... your church and community. You will see the Holy Spirit
manifest within you, and give you vast power over your circumstances. With
Divine Power added to your Personal Power, you will not just make a puny
little difference in the world. You will make the world DIFFERENT.
Always Remember, Your Missions are NOT bigger than you are.
You were born for this very challenge! As you will soon learn, there is
a simple way for you to gain instant insight and direction. All you must do,
with Christ standing by your side, is to Triangulate your Values, Visions and
Roles into an entire series of Natural Missions for your life. By doing this,
you will automatically gain the Authentic Direction you are looking for.
Put simply, when you achieve Clarity of Values, you will have the
foundation set for what matters most in your life...
When you achieve Clarity of Vision, you will understand the emotional
and spiritual connections between what you value most and how you see
living those values each and every day...
When you achieve Clarity of Roles, you will have set absolutely clear
EXPECTATIONS for who you must become the hats you must wear
to achieve your visions and experience those values.
It is at the point where you have triangulated these three variables
(Values, Visions, Roles) that your Natural Missions form, and you gain
Authentic Direction. This is the point where High Expectations meet the
force of Brilliant Execution and you become a living Testament to a life well
lived... producing Divine experiences in the deepest sense.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 19
The truth is, you now have everything you need to succeed. All you
need is a push in the right direction your Authentic Direction and
you will quickly establish traction... gain momentum... then accelerate your
speed... becoming a true force of change in the world.
God provided your gifts and talents. We provide the tools. All you need
to do is accept the challenge. Do this, and you will achieve success beyond
your greatest expectations... a Spirit-Led Success with the heightened
capacity to LOVE more... SERVE better... and Glorify Him in your every
thought and deed. Your Faithful Servant, E. R. Haas

When you get to the end of all the light you know
and its time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen:
either you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.

Edward Teller

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 21
Instructions for Your 10 Sessions:
The Quick Big Picture

This is a 10-sessionroughly 30 hours beginning to endself-guided

course that, provided you do the work, will deliver you to a brand-new
starting point for a life of Success On Purpose. It will prepare you to live the
spiritually gratifying life you are looking for. A life of happiness. A life of
long-term success and significance. A life of devoted service to Gods plan
for you.
These 10 sessions will support and empower your Christian faith by
crystalizing it into a body of work that will give your life the meaning and
purpose that is so important to you and to God.
This unique new system is designed for:
INDIVIDUALS who have no time to attend meetings and just want
the fast-track for digesting the materials. If this is you, read through the
group discussion questions, and/or answer the Q/A in each chapter.
COUPLES who want to experience the materials together. If this is
you, think of the discussion group questions as a small group of two!
LIFE GROUPS where fellowship is built into a weekly meeting
experience. Here you will find exactly what you are looking for. We have
designed this system so there is no need for a leader who knows more
than you do. Anyone can lead this group simply by staying one session
ahead. Here, everyone is a leader and everyone benefits from the
collective of experiences and comments from the group.
Note: If you have been appointed leader, please understand as you are
beginning the first couple of sessions, not everyone participating in the
group will likely have completed all the First Assignments of Personal
Work. Don't get discouraged, if your group is unable to answer some of the
questions.
It is important to keep the discussion moving forward with the next
question or talking about whats important in their life right now... why its
important, what values and visions they have for whats important to them
in the role they currently are playing.

Do the exercises provided in each of these sessions.

In your box you will find all the tools you need to quickly reinvent
your life. Like all tools, ours are designed to help you do your work more
efficiently, more productively and more successfully. They will guide you to
where you can use your gifts and talents to serve the world in the best way
possible. But you have to use them for this process to be of use to you.
Your success in this process, as in life itself, is entirely dependent on
you doing the work. The Personal Work (homework) portion of this course
could end up being the most important work you will ever do. The
couples/small group work thats done together could end up being the most
important work you will ever do with or for someone else.
For each session, there are instructions to read a chapter inside Success
On Purpose and listen to an audio recording of the same chapter. Although
both the written book and the audio version cover the same information, if
you do both as suggested, you will hear valuable ideas you didnt notice
when reading and you will read insightful comments you never heard while
listening.
Both Success On Purpose and The Power of TQ (included in this
package) are intended to be read together with your Bible. We have
included specific verses for you to consider as you go through each session.
You are encouraged to seek out your own Biblical inspiration as you
proceed. Please understand the following regarding the passages listed for
your meditation in the 10 Sessions:
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 23
They are not to be looked at as proof texts for any
particular point or thought made in a session.
They do point out, however, passages the authors felt would
complement your reflective journey before the Lord as
you prayerfully seek His leading throughout the course.

We have also included short commentaries on people we consider to be

Biblical role models of people who took on a mission and performed their
role successfully... on purpose... for Gods glory. If any one of them had not
accepted their mission, if they had failed to act or to perform up to the level
required to achieve their missions, they, and we, would never be where we
are today. There are many ways to think about how valuable they were in
their service to Gods plan, and we know our perspective is only one, but we
hope you will find it useful.

Lord, as I read the Bible passages, the Bible

stories and thoughts associated with each ses-
sion, please strengthen my heart to follow Your
leading as I follow the sessions. And always,
Lord, always... bring to my heart the beauty of
Your grace-filled heart to me along the way. I
need You. I thank You. I praise You. In Jesus
Name, Amen.
To Get Started...
Heres Your First Assignment of Personal Work To Be Done Prior to

helping you perform more successfully in every area of your life.
Ultimately, the objective of these 10 sessions is to help you clarify
specific goals, visions and missions you want to achieve in your life what
we dub your five MOST Important Missions. The reason for taking the TQ
Test is to help you see how you can perform better... so that you can actually
achieve those missions.
There is nothing else you need to do at ThinkTQ.com at this time. Once

A Quick Note: ThinkTQ.com contains a vast number of resources for
achieving personal and professional excellence. Like a little kid in a candy
store, new members frequently become overwhelmed with all the choices
and find themselves getting confused. While improving your TQ (Time
Quotient) is an integral part of this system, it is easy to ease yourself into it!
At this point it is more important that you spend time doing the work in
The Believers Guide rather than spending an excessive amount of time at
the Think TQ website. With that said, we do encourage you to read your
daily emails on Intentional Excellence, invest 5-10 minutes each morning
reviewing the Ideas For Action and deliberately find a way to PUT those
ideas into action.
As you will soon come to find out, this is a systematic, procedural, fully
integrated program for taking SMARTER ACTIONS. It is designed to move
you from THINKER to DOER!

Your Second Assignment of Personal Work
To Be Done Prior to First Session:

READ: Chapter 2 in SOP for proof that a strong sense of Purpose and
Mission is the starting point for all success. Review the Discussion
Questions at the end of each chapter.
READ: Chapter 3 in SOP to understand how filling in Three Variables
can produce a starting point for success and define the purpose for your
performance. Review the Discussion Questions at the end of each chapter.
Identify any questions that are especially meaningful to you and be
prepared to discuss them at the next session.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of Session 1 for inspiration and guidance on personal
work to be completed here.
LISTEN: SOP CD #3.

Pray: Oh, Father, you know that I desire to live

"My Life On Purpose." As I strive to live in this
manner, I ask you to be my wisdom as I seek
Your purposes in all I do. Not only the big
things... but the small things as well, because I
realize that nothing is too small for your care
or insignificant for your design for my life. In
the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Proposed Agenda/Time Line

We have found that this system requires about 20-30 hours of your
personal time to actually get it. It is very simple and it is very gaited.
It is also very powerful.
In your system you will find 8 CDs. Each is about an hour long, so
think of this as a highly movitational and inspirational 8 hour listening and
learning adventure. The books are written to be fast and easy to read, so the
reading part takes most people 6-8 hours of doing and discovering.

26 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

The KEY to actually finding Spirit-Led Success through this God-
inspired system is in strengthing your personal relationship with Christ as
you work through the exercises. Again, most people tell us that this program
gets them started... keeps them moving forward quickly... but takes several
weeks of prayer, meditation and challenging their comfort zones. As you
will soon learn, most people are living SOMEBODY ELSES LIFE! The gift
you have been given here is to discover how to live YOUR own life as a
Spirit-Led Success. This is a very big deal.
The following is an agenda for each of the 10-sessions. It is provided to
help you or your group stay on point and on time as needed to get through

A note about your Bible Heroes Bookmarks...

These bookmarks (see sample on next page) have been created to help
you remember to PERFORM on purpose as you go through the days that
follow... remembering the trials and tribulations each hero faced to achieve
their most important missions.
Your problems are NOT bigger than you are.
Anytime you think they are, take out the current bookmark and think
about what somebody like David, Moses or Joseph faced.
It is as simple as that!

Session 1: Creating Success
On Purpose In My Life
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I know you
have a plan and a strategy for my life. The path to
Victory is already set! I need your help, I ask you
to take away from me any power that might
increase my sinful nature. I pray that you keep my
mind and heart pure every day. All these things I
humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord
Jesus Christ, my Mighty God, and my Ever-present
Holy Spirit upon whom I trust, Amen.
Introduction

As a believer, you understand that your purpose your mission in life

is to love, serve and glorify God. This is what God wants you to do in each
and every area of your life. To achieve this mission, each person is given
the opportunity to choose the direction he or she will go and the means they
will employ to actually perform this mission successfully in their life.
The first step is to identify, in advance, the uniquely individual
missions you can take on that will allow you to demonstrate your faith and
give you the opportunity to fulfill your own God-given plan and purpose of
serving Him.
Bible Meditation

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be
against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up
for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who
shall bring a charge against Gods elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is
he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who
is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As
it is written: For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as
sheep for the slaughter. 37 Yet in all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:31-37 (NKJV)

Bible Heroes: The Essence of Performing On Purpose...

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Noah A man who built an ark to save his family and the animals
from a flood.
VALUES: Faith, Righteousness, Obedience, Integrity, Family,
Courage, Perseverance.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 31
VISION: His family and all living creatures are alive after a flood that
will destroy everything else.
ROLE: Ship builder.
MISSION: Build a ship big enough to hold family and all the animals.
There was a time when God was not happy with the people that had
become wicked. He looked down and saw Noah, for whom He had found
favor. Noah was a righteous man whom God told to build a boat or ark to
save his family and every kind of animal, bird, and creeping thing from the
flood that was coming and would destroy life on the earth. Despite the jeers
of the people around him, Noah obediently did as he was told. He built the
boat, collected the animals and prepared for the worst. It came. God made
it rain for 40 days and 40 nights.
Finally, when the water receded, the ark landed on Mount Ararat. Noah
sent out a dove to see if the flood waters had subsided. At first the dove
returned, then the dove brought an olive branch, and finally the dove did
not return. After this, God put the rainbow in the sky as a covenant that he
would not destroy the earth again by a flood.
While God gave Noah the mission of building an Ark, Noah still had to
accept and perfect the ROLE (see above). He could have said no. He could
have said, Great idea, Ill get around to it someday. He could have tested
the idea with a couple of gallant attempts and then proclaimed it was just
way, way too much work. In spite of the obvious difficulty, Noah chose
instead to live his values of faith, righteousness and obedience. He was
convinced of Gods vision of saving his family and the animals.
It was this conviction of knowing he was doing the right thing that gave
Noah the courage to perform the work in spite of the criticism, the calluses
and all the back-breaking hard work. And think about what a task it was to
actually build such a gigantic ship that could have held the equivalent of
522 standard American railroad stock cars. No question, to succeed, this
man had to perform at his very best every single day at this earthly mission
by making plans, prioritizing, synergizing, organizing, optimizing his time,
and taking highly productive actions.
In the end, for Noah, it was a mission of
true faith accomplished.
Gen 6:9-22 Command to build ark.
Gen 9:1-17 Rainbow promise.

Introspection: Group Share and Support

Do you believe that God wants you to live a happy, satisfied

and significant life? If so, what would that look like to you?
What do the words success and purpose mean to you?
What are the most important things in your life? How much
of your precious time are you spending on those same
valuable interests?
Any comments about Ben and Melissas story? Do you
understand the process they went through?
How would you score your current level of Expectations
and Execution for Success? Where a 1 is no hope at all and
a 10 is clearly defined, inspirational visions and a 1 is
poor, ineffective actions and a 10 is highly productive,
successful actions that produce the results you want. 2:2?
5:5? 10:10?
Are there examples in your life where you are striving to be
all and do all you can to achieve something you want and
value? How does that feel? How does your desire for
success help motivate you to do your best to succeed?
Which areas in your life right now would you say are on the
right track and on purpose? Which areas do you not feel
this way?
Do you have any uninspiring roles? Where you do not care
about the activities you are performing or results you are
producing? Roles with obligations and duties but no
emotional reward, desirable vision, no value in return?
Are there areas of your life where you are successful and
producing positive results, but where these same results
have little long-term meaning or significance for you?
Review and resolve the Success On Purposes performance
definition of purpose inside of a Christian context.
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

How one loves, serves God, and how one defines success of that
purpose. All dreams, no matter the size or type, are worthy of respect and
celebration. There are no small gifts of service to God or man.
Everyone in your circle is now on your team. Make a commitment to
support each persons desire to be a Winner. Ask Gods help whenever you
attempt to help them. Together you can achieve more. This is a conversation
that requires honesty, compassion, inspiration, insight, confidentiality and
trust.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 33
The benefit of group conversations is in creating multiple options and
insights where an individual might find few or none. You help widen the
lens of possibility by asking questions of each other, not by telling them
what you know to be true. What if? Would you consider? Would you be open
to? If you were successful, what would that look like? How would that feel?
What would you be willing to do to change that area of your life? If you
knew you couldnt fail... If all things were possible... If you had a fresh new
start tomorrow...
Notice how open and willing the speaker is to the idea that their life can
be improved. Can the speaker imagine a more fulfilling future? Are they
open to the range of possibilities that God has for them? Can you hear hope?
Faith? High expectation? Or do you hear resignation? Sad acceptance?
Limited beliefs?
Never hesitate to make a contribution to the conversation. Please do
offer observations, not judgments. Suggestions, not advice. Options, not
commands. Always make sure your contribution is for the benefit of the
other person and not just so you can have your turn to speak and look good.
Major Points to Review on Mission and Purpose

God wants you to love, serve and glorify Him and he wants
you to do this abundently. He wants you to succeed. He
does not want you to fail or live the life of a poor victim.
Your purpose your job as a human being is to take
on empowering roles so that you can achieve visions of
your most important Christian and personal values.
The Starting Point for lasting success is a strong sense of
purpose, mission and direction.
There is a powerful connection between living ones
purpose (High Expectation Brilliant Execution) and
achieving success. This is proven in multiple ways in
Chapter 2, Power of Purpose in SOP.
You can purposely identify and empower a role and vision
for your life that is completely aligned with your Christian
values and personal values. When you do, these will be the
most important roles you will play in your life.
When you live what you value most, you are living a
successful life that will be filled with happiness,
satisfaction and significance every day.
Your Success as defined by your results depends on
the actions you perform. The TQ Test that you took reflects
back to you the current actions you are performing or
34 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
not performing. When you take smarter actions more
frequently, you become more successful and you have a
greater chance of producing the tangible results you want
most in this life.
Summary

Believers live their life on purpose. This means that they take the time
and effort to purposely determine what is most important to them and for
God. They are crystal clear and totally convinced that what they say they
value is the right thing for them personally to value. Starting with this firm
foundation of faith as their inspiration and their strength, they then dedicate
their life to this purpose.
Believers succeed on purpose. This means that they fully understand
they are responsible for the part they must play in the achievement of their
plans, goals and visions. Knowing this, and knowing how desirable their
goals are, they are absolutely committed to being the best they can be as
they strive toward the goals they want to achieve. They commit to
intentional excellence in all that they do so that their performance will be
more than sufficient to win the prize.

Closing Prayer: My current roles, values and the

visions I have for my life are such extremely
important topics. For You, for me, and for those
whom I choose to invest my life in. Lord, many
times concepts that bring things together in
life mean so much, and as I think about this trio
of words, may that which continues to come
together in my life be not only inspiring... but
inspired by the work of the Holy Spirit in my
heart. Mold me can become a trite phrase if we
are not careful; however, as I say to You mold
me into the person you want me to become dur-
ing this process, I am not being trite. Please,
then, do just that. Shape my values, visions and
my roles into all you desire them to be in my life.
I praise you that I can pray such a prayer. In the
Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 35
Personal Work to be done prior to Session 2

Read: Chapter 4, Natural Mission, and Chapter 5, Inherent Direction,

in SOP to learn how your Values, Visions and Roles unite to give you a
Starting Point for long-term success. These three variables determine your
authentic mission and point you in the right direction. Review the
Discussion Questions at the end of each chapter. Identify any that are
especially meaningful to you and be prepared to discuss them at the next
session.
Read: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
Listen: SOP CD #4.
To Be Done: Fill in your mission triangles. You will find the blank
triangle forms for this exercise in the Believers Guide Form Pack that is
found at ThinkTQ.com. Go to: ThinkTQ.com. Click on the TQ Training
tab at the top of the page. Click on The Download Center found inside
the top left box of this page. Scroll down to find the link for the Believers
Guide Form Pack. Click to open and print the mission triangle forms that
you wish to use for this session.
Using your printed forms, fill in your mission triangles as they exist in
your life today. Your description of the variables filled in should be an
honest and true reflection of how you are living each role right now. These
labels should describe your current status in these roles as clear or fuzzy
as you have defined your role, as inspiring or non-existent as your visions
may be and as conscious or unconscious as you are to the personal values
present within the actions you perform in the role. Keep these completed
practice pages to compare to new ones you will complete for Session 7.
Why: The purpose of filling in mission triangles as they are today is for
basic experience in assembling triangles and to discover the current degree
of clarity, conviction and commitment you have to each of your current
roles. This should be done as objectively as possible a true look in the
mirror to see where you stand right now. Any insight into how clear,
convinced and committed you are to each of your roles as they are right now
will be extremely useful as we move forward from here.
Dont worry about doing this correctly! Dont worry about looking good
or trying to improve these triangles in any way at this time. That is not the
purpose for this practice exercise. You will make some significant
improvements to these initial mission triangles by the end of the Session 10.

36 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

An Example of Personal Work: Turn to page 378 in SOP for an example
of three mission triangles. Discuss how a personal triangle could be poorly
defined or how it is possible to have a variable missing entirely, such as no
values in a role or no vision for a role.

Personal Prayer For My Missions: Dear

Precious Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty God,
Truly Awesome And Ever-present Holy Spirit, I
pray that You will give me a better understand-
ing of what missions you want me to achieve. I
pray that you will give me the courage to act on
that understanding... and, Lord, give me wis-
dom to know how to gracefully get out of the
roles that Im not to be in. Forgive me of any
apathy that I have had. I need Clarity, I need
You! In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Now Practice

There are many, many missions and sub-missions that you are on now
or will attempt to achieve in your life. To limit our focus to those that are
the most important, fill in the three variables for each of the following
triangles in each of the following five categories as they exist for you today.
Note that Mission number one is to love God, two through five are to
serve Him and all five will glorify Him.
If you dont currently have a role in one of these categories, this is a
great opportunity to examine your heart and imagination and create one.
1. My Spiritual Mission is to strengthen my personal
relationship with God, the Creator of all things. Role:
Seeker, Student, Follower, Servant, Practitioner, Disciple,
Teacher, Leader.
2. My Personal Growth Mission is to become the best I can
be in His service and for His Glory. Role: Student,
Hobbyist, Traveler, Reader, Musician, Athlete, Body
Builder, Communicator, Networker, Health Enthusiast.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 37
3. My Personal Relationship Mission is to love and contribute
to those closest to me. Role: Husband, Wife, Father,
Mother, Son, Daughter, Brother, Sister, Friend, Business
Partner.
4. My Church/Community Mission is to make a positive
impact on the world I live in. Role: Community Volunteer,
Fund-Raiser, Donor, Community Organizer, Church
Member, Pastor, Minister, Teacher, Deacon, Elder, Small
Group Leader, Youth Worker, Greeter, Usher.
5. My Career Mission is to improve my skills at my vocation
to produce the best service possible and provide the
financial needs and desires for myself and those I love.
Role: Employee (job description), Contractor, Manager,
Business Owner, Entrepreneur, Investor.

For practice and additional insight, you can also try guessing at the
three variables of someone elses mission triangle or get someone elses
input for how they would fill out one of their own. Try filling in a triangle for
a company or organization you are involved in as a company mission
triangle.
For Practice...

1. When filling in a mission triangle, give a very short descriptive label

for the role you think you are in. Write in the values you honestly attach to
each role or just note the lack of personal values for each role. Add
the vision/expectation associated with that role regardless if it is huge or
tiny, grandiose or mundane, inspiring or cynical. Finish with a very short
mission statement inside each triangle.
2. Notice how clearly you can describe each of the three variables or if
some of them are fuzzy and ill-defined. If so, purposely leave them blank
for now. Circle any of the three variables in the mission triangles that you
think could be the short leg limiting the overall potential size or success
of the mission.
Notice that if any one or more of the three variables are fuzzy or
missing, you probably dont have a true sense of conviction that its role or
mission is the right one at this time. Its hard to be convinced that you are
on the right track if its not clear where youre going or why.
Observe how a mission the "what am I supposed to do with my life?"
is simple once you have three variables in place. Your mission is to take on
the role and go achieve the vision that is full of your values. Clear right?

38 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Compare your mission triangles and notice how much easier it will be
to succeed at those where you are clear on what your job is and clear on
exactly what you are to get done!
3. Be prepared to present one or more of your mission triangles to the
group at the next session. The bad, incomplete, weak ones are just as
valuable to share as the good ones. It is not important where you are
today. It is where youre going next that is the most inspiring to all.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 41
Session 2: Mission Triangles A
Tool To Help Answer Lifes
Biggest Questions
Opening prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, Today I pray that you
will begin to bring Clarity for what you want in
my life. Lord, give me Clarity of my values,
Clarity to each of my roles and Clarity of the
Visions You have for me. In Your Precious
Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction

You are living mission triangles all the time. Everyone is. All the time.
You have just never thought of it in this way. The idea of vision, values and
roles is not new. You always have some amount of value in every role you
play, some amount of value in doing what you do and some general picture
or vision of what youre trying to accomplish.
Once you know these three variables are the driving forces in your
performance, the key is to purposely choose to improve the quality of
these three variables, and you will instantly transform the quality of your
life. Do this with intentional clarity and deep conviction, and you will not
only know what you should be doing with your life, you will get a chance to
live it every day.
The mission triangle is a tool you can use to assemble these three
variables into a specific life focus. Once you are clear in regard to your
roles, vision and values, you will have authentic direction. You will gain the
conviction that what you want to do is absolutely the right thing for you to
do. You will have the confidence that you are going in the right directions
and commit to what needs to get done. You will have the courage to stay on
the right path and live a life worthy of your best effort.

Bible Meditation

It (Gods Holy Word) says, Without faith it is impossible to please

God. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally
and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith,
with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and
tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive
anything from the Lord he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his
ways. James 1:5-8 (NKJV)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man
observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes
away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who
looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful
hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25 (NKJV)
Inspirational Quotations

The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many
people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car... a
teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they
get little. Ben Sweetland
I would give all the wealth of the world, and all the deeds of all the
heroes, for one true vision. Henry David Thoreau
God does not ask your ability or inability. He asks only your
availability. Mary Kay Ash
God provides the wind, but man must raise the sails. St Augustine
Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you
nothing that you have received only what you have given: a full heart
enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage. St Francis of
Assisi
Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but
yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christs compassion for the world
is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;
and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now. St Teresa of

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 43
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Nehemiah A man who became governor of Jerusalem and rebuilt the

city walls after the exile.
ROLE: Construction Manager, then Community Organizer.
VALUES: Family, Faith, Courage, Security, Teamwork.
VISION: His family living safely behind strong city walls.
MISSION: Rebuild the walls around Israels capital of Jerusalem.
Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great
trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates
have been burned with fire.
This news, with words like In trouble, Disgrace, Broken down
and Burned, broke the heart, opened a floodgate of tears, and caused a
man to fast and pray before his God. And we thank God for that man:
Nehemiah. From a broken heart to the rebuilding of a broken set of walls,
we witness a man on a mission.
Nehemiah could easily see that something had to be done to rebuild the
walls. His family and the other people inside Jerusalem were so important
to him that he felt compelled to act. This crystal clear and unwavering
connection to his values of family and faith gave Nehemiah the courage to
create the perfect ROLE for himself to solve the problem in spite of the fear
of all the unknowns. He took on the job of what we would call a
Construction Manager. He did this so that he could acquire the power and
the personal responsibility of recruiting security and construction workers
to go rebuild the walls that were in ruins in Jerusalem.
The results show Nehemiah was successful in his mission of rebuilding
the walls and securing the city so that his family and those he loved would
be safe. After the walls were rebuilt, Nehemiah purposely took on
additional roles so that he could continue to influence and assist the leaders
in the city. Most importantly, he helped lead his people to experience a city
wide spiritual revival.
God used Nehemiahs holy discontent (he saw a desperate need) which
motivated him to take bold action. Nehemiah had a Winners Mindset. By
having Clarity of his Values and Clarity of his Vision, Nehemiah created the
biggest role he could to accomplish this important Mission of securing the
city and leading the residents back to a closer relationship with God.
Nehemiah ACHIEVED Success at his purpose...
because He Performed ON Purpose!

Neh 2:1-20 Goes to Jerusalem.

Introspection: Group Share and Support

Review participants current drafts of mission triangles.

Give them all an opportunity to discuss one of their mission
triangles and any insights they had while filling in the
triangles.
The goal of this session is not to come up with corrections
or improvements, but to see where purposeful
improvements would be useful. It is also to observe the
connection between a weak, uncommitted performance in
the real world and a role where there is no strong, clear
mission. Alternatively, it is inspiring to observe the clarity,
enthusiasm and commitment that is naturally associated
with a clearly described mission triangle.
Discuss the potential for greater success if you could more
accurately describe the role or define the details of the
vision or how the values align with the mission.
Ask each person to summarize how they feel about the
mission they just shared. Are they inspired, enthused,
excited, bored, frustrated, unfulfilled, committed,
dissatisfied, resigned? Do they truly own the mission? Or
is the mission something they are obligated to do?
If all things were possible, what would you really like to
accomplish? How big are you really willing to play in this
game of life? What size of contribution would you really
want to make?
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

When someone is willing to talk honestly about whats truly important

to them, about their dreams and visions, they may be exposing their true
inner self to the group. This is a time for great respect for each speaker.
Their personal pursuit is worthy of great admiration and support. It
deserves your highest level of attention and most considerate contribution.
Mission triangles are the foundation, the starting point, for success in
your respective roles. The size, quality and connection between the three
variables of the mission triangles create the motivation and inspiration for
performing any role or job.
Listen for the passion or lack of passion as each speaks about their
triangles. Note that frustration or sorrow reflect a high level of unfulfilled
passion. When not highly passionate, ask about the values how strong,
how clear, how obvious a connection, if any, between the stated values and
the vision and role. Note if the values are really important or just a nice to
have or looking good values.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 45
Notice how excited the speaker is in regard to the size and desirability
of the vision. Im just curious, what would make this vision even more
desirable? Bigger? More specific? More real-world details? More valu-
able? How would your vision change if you thought you could do
anything?
Observe how committed the speaker appears to be to the role. Excited?
Sincere? Determined? How would your mission change if you felt like you
had more personal power to get things done? What role would you take on
then? Which, if any, is the limiting leg from getting you to commit fully to
this mission?
How would your life change if any one of your variables changed?
Major Points to Review on the Assembly of Mission Triangles

God created you for the purpose of serving him and serving
others. Given that this is Gods desire and directive for you,
it is now your job to accept and define what that mission of
service is and what you will do to make sure you succeed
at it.
Your participation in this partnership starts by creating and
nurturing Roles that give you the opportunity and
responsibility of achieving the highest visions of what can
be accomplished. This is HOW you will get to live your
most important Christian and personal values.
Triangulating missions is a process for defining this calling
and answering these questions of what you are supposed to
be doing with your life.
Once you have defined your Values, Vision, and Roles of a
mission, you have created strong and direct connections
between what you Expect in life the positive Emotions
you want to feel and the valuable Experiences that will
add up to a life of true service, satisfaction and
significance.
The size and quality of your missions are determined by the
size and quality of the variables. The shortest leg, or the
least defined variable, limits the potential size and success
of the mission.
Summary

Now that you have observed and experienced the life-changing insight
that can be gained with this process, the next step is to carefully...
purposely... prayerfully clarify each individual variable of the triangle.

Progress Report

With a general background in how to use this tool, you are now about
to create the most meaningful missions in your life and get to the right
starting point for succeeding in each one.
To begin your personal process, we will start with.... Values. Your
Personal Work will help you achieve the first characteristic of a Winners
Mindset Clarity. Do this right, and it will lead to absolute conviction that
the missions you create will be the right ones for you. When done, you will
have the understanding and belief that you are on the right path for you
and for God.

Closing Prayer: One of the deepest desires of

my heart, Lord, is to be clear in my journey
with you. I know that it may take time, effort
and a great deal of interaction with you for
such clarity or it may happen in an instant:
a divinely appointed moment for You to connect
with me. I accept both. You decide. But this I
do: I bring my need and desire for clarity before
You now. And I thank you for hearing. It means
so very, very much to me to know You are lis-
tening. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Personal Work to be done prior to Session 3

READ: Chapter 6, My Values, in SOP to learn a process for how to

identify your Top 10 Values. (There are many processes for arriving at your
top values. This is one that many people have found useful.) Review the
discussion questions at the end of Chapter 6. Identify any questions that are
especially meaningful to you and be prepared to discuss them at the next
session.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
LISTEN: SOP CD #5.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 47
TO BE DONE: Create a list of your Top 10 Values as described in
Chapter 6.
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: Turn to page 247 to 249 in SOP to
see a top 10 list filled out with value, meaning, example, emotions.
Additionally, the group leader may choose to show their own completed list
and describe why each word is on their list and how they arrived at their
choices.
WHY? Because until you know whats most important to you, you are
spending the only life you have on things that really dont matter. However,
you are naturally the most productive when youre connected to the infinite
power generated from working from the heart, investing the only life you
have in what you care about the most. This is what drives winners in this
world to be their very best.
Your values are the key players and the deciding factors for everything
youve done in your life up to this point. They are the source of your dreams
and visions, the reason for your roles.
Your values determine if something you accomplish feels like it is
significant or not. It is incredibly useful to identify your current personal
values so that you can focus on them more frequently if you like them, or
change them if you don't. If your successful results contribute to something
you value, then you will feel they are significant. If they dont, it wont
matter how much success you achieve. Ultimately, they wont produce any
long-term satisfaction or happiness.

Personal Prayer For Clarity Of Values: When I

think of values, Lord, so many come to mind.
Sacrifice, caring, beauty, integrity, love and
faithfulness... and tons more. Tons.

So, as I think, plan and pray about the topic of

values, may you hold the place in my heart that
places the right values at the center of my life
at this time so that I may live from the center
according to Your will.

48 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Such a simple prayer, Lord, but so jam-packed
with meaning for me. As always, I stand in awe
at the value of my life that drove you to come to
earth, die and be raised again in order that I
may live for you today. In gratefulness I pray in
Your Name, Amen.
Now Practice

Complete the Values exercises found in Chapter 6. Follow along and fill
in the blanks on the pages inside of this chapter. This will be your first
attempt. The next session will give you a chance to further review and
improve or replace any of your values on this first list. Here are some ideas
to understand the idea of values as used in Success On Purpose:
Values are things that you love and want more of in your
life.
For the purpose of this process, do not list personal
characteristics such as honesty, courageousness or
intelligence. A personal characteristic is how one
behavesit is an adjective that describes who you are
while you are performing. Honesty, for example, is very
important, but it is not the end, the reward or the reason
for our desire to perform. Rarely do you go looking for
opportunities where you can be honest. Instead, you are
honest in all that you do.
A value is something that gives your life meaning: Faith,
love, service, family, adventure, intellectual challenge.
It answers the why you would do something. I love
driving into the mountains because I value nature, beauty
and tranquility.
It is what you want to give to the world. Contribution.
Compassionate conversation. Beautiful music.
Architectural masterpiece. Childrens self-esteem.
Education. Scientific discovery.
It is what you want to experience as a result of doing
something. Peace. Accomplishment. Pride. Love.
Intellectual Challenge. Freedom.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 49
This list of values will be a work in progress so it does not have to be
perfect, but it does need to be all filled in. As you consider other options
that may be more valuable to you, you can replace the least valuable of this
10 with your newly identified Top 10 Values.
Write in things that you are striving for at this point in your life, even if
you know in your heart that these are not the most important values in the
long term. It is extremely helpful to identify and acknowledge where you are
spending your time now and what is driving your current actions. In the
next session, you can purposely choose to keep or change these values from
your list.
Once completed, ask yourself if your top 10 are really your
values or if they are ones that you inherited from your
parents, your culture or friends. Are they truly meaningful
and important to you or do you need to get new values? For
example: If you didnt worry about any other persons
approval, would all of these values still stay on your list?
Review commonly accepted Christian values and observe
This list of values will be a work in progress so it does not
have to be perfect, but it does need to be all filled in. As
you consider other options that may be more valuable to
you, you can replace the least valuable of this 10 with your
newly identified Top 10 Values.
Your values determine your choices, decisions and
subsequent actions. Come to the next session prepared to
defend the life you are living now or going to live by
explaining your choice of values.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 51
Session 3: Discovering Your
Current Values
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, Today I pray that you
will show me how my current values have
indeed dictated my decisions and actions. I
pray for the courage to be truly authentic and
transparent in order that I can hear what you
have for me and how I can help others. Lord,
show me ways that I can be faithful and live
my highest values when I am among my circle
of friends and family. In your Holy Name I
pray, Amen.
Introduction

You are where you are and do what you do because of the things you
value or dont value. Tragically, until you are clear on what you value and
what you dont, you will spend a large portion of life on things that really
dont give you any true happiness, satisfaction or significance. This means
you will end up trading your life for things that are nice to have, but pale in
comparison to what is truly valued.
Think of your top 10 personal values at the foundation for your success
in life. Once you have a clear understanding of what is driving your
performance from the foundation up, you will have a great deal of clarity
and momentum in your life. You will have found the target the Authentic
You.
Bible Meditation

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust
doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Abraham (Abram) God promised that Abraham would become the

father of a great nation, receive land, and bring blessing to all nations.
ROLE: Father.
VALUES: Faith, Obedience, Righteousness, Family, Stewardship.
VISION: A nation of followers of God, descendants as numerous as the
stars in heaven.
MISSION: To be fully obedient and faithful to God.
Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.
(Romans 4:3)
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 53
In one brief statement from the Bible we learn something simple about
a not so simple guy in the Bible: He believed God. We might say: He was
a man of faith. God promised to bless him in an abundant way (Genesis
12:1-3). Abraham trusted in his God, and the God he trusted delivered...
big time!
Stating the obvious, Abraham VALUED faith in God; and as we will see
in a moment, he valued being obedient to the God he trusted. However, we
do know that Abraham struggled in his faith over time. It was not an easy
road for him. Both God and his wife knew he struggled and lacked faith at
times.
Soon after the death of Abrahams father, God promised both Abraham
and Sarah that He would make Abraham the father of a great nation; he
would be given land and bring blessing to all nations.
Following the promise of God that he would bless the world through his
many descendants, nothing happened. As in nothing.
In fact, it was not until 14 years later, when Sarah and Abraham were
so well stricken in age (Abraham was 100 years old) as to make
parenthood seem an absurdity, Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to
Isaac. She and Abraham both realized that Isaac was a miracle that only
God could do.
They also realized that God had kept his original promise to the two of
them which convinced Abraham to value his faith and obedience to God
above all else once and for all.
It was within the ROLE as a Father of a future nation that Abraham
discovered his most important MISSION (see above). In other words,
Abrahams MISSION, in the role as Father, was to live his values of faith
and obedience to God every day which would then become a blessing to all
nations.
Later, God tested Abrahams faith by telling him to sacrifice his and
Sarahs only son, Isaac. Abraham, who was absolutely convinced and
committed to his mission of faith and obedience to God, did what he was
told to do to prepare to sacrifice his son. God intervened and spared Isaac
and instructed Abraham to sacrifice a ram that had gotten caught in the
bushes nearby instead.

54 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Abraham passed Gods test, and God continued to bless him by
fulfilling his promise to make of Abraham a great nation. Abrahams
commitment and courage to achieve his earthly mission was an incredible
demonstration of his values of faith and obedience to God over any sacrifice
he and his wife would have to make. The New Testament portrays Abraham
as an example of faith, affirming that the promises God made to Abraham
extend to all who believe.
Abraham was a Success... On Purpose

Gen 12:1-3 Call.

Gen 15:1-6 Promise and faith.
Gen 22:1-19 Binding of Isaac.
Gen 25:7-10 Death.
Rom 4:1-25 Exemplar of faith.
Introspection: Group Share and Support

Note: You may want to break into smaller groups of no more than five
people to allow for more individual participation in the group setting for this
portion of the session.
Share personal lists of Top 10 Values. Have each
participant read their listed values. Discuss why each word
is on the list. Share what the word means to him or her and
the emotions that it produces. Give an example of where
that value could show up in their daily life.
Discuss how the participant chose this value. Is it a
conscious choice or was it simply acquired over time as a
result of an outside influence of parents, family or culture?
If so, not right or wrong, but have they purposely
committed to this value as one of their own?
Discuss if the value stated really is a true, personal value
or are these wannabe values that would be nice to have?
Are they listed because they are deemed to be the correct
ones that good, honorable or successful people should
have? Just how desirable is each value to you?
Compare values listed to current life lived. Is the
participant purposely living this value now, and if so, how
and where? Frequently enough? If not, why not? Is it not
really a top value or a wrong use of their time? Example: I
value family, but I work on my hobby every spare hour of
my day.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 55
Discuss similarities and differences between different
participants lists. Note how the values determine the
corresponding similar or different activities that each
performs in the world.
Discuss if anyone has succeeded in achieving a desired
goal and then found it lacking where it did not really
pay off in terms of happiness, meaning or significance that
was expected?
Discuss examples where strong values are being lived
frequently and how that feels.
Discuss if your list of values are in alignment or in
conflict with Christian values.
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

We are all Gods children, and there is no one single correct list. Given
our God-given uniqueness, we are all here to discover and fulfill our own
unique values and interests and to answer separate callings.
Listening and questioning requires respect and an intention to serve
the other person in a way that brings out the best in the speaker. This
process deserves support, honesty, respect, appreciation and a desire to
help.
Without being confrontational in any way, the benefit and duty of the
group is to truly test the speakers resolve to their list. Its one thing to write
down a casual list of values. Its another to defend it to the group. Its even
more difficult to live it as a testament to what you truly believe. Better to be
tested now by your group than to fool yourself for years to come or be fooled
by the rest of the world. There are few things more important than getting
this list right since it will show you how to live your best, most meaningful
life.
Listen for clarity. How precise can the speaker define what he or she
truly wants?
Listen for conviction how desirable are these values to this speaker?
A great test is to listen to the person read the positive emotions that are
associated with each value. If they are enthused and energized, this is a
personally desirable value. If they are just simply sincere and are not
energized or enthused by reading the list, then maybe its not a desirable
value.
Notice the benefit of describing the unique meaning the speaker has for
each value word. It may not be the same meaning you would give to the
word. The exact word choice is less important than the precise meaning that
the speaker gives to the word.
56 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Notice how easy it is for the speaker to arrive at examples of where the
value could show up in their actions. If difficult to do, then it may be helpful
to clarify the word or it may not really be a true value.
How well do these values align with your current relationships? How
many of these values are produced inside of your job, career or work? How
many of them are inside your current goals?
If you lived a life completely full of these values, would you say that
your life was a success?
Major Points to Review on Discovering Your Value

Values are those things that you rate or judge to be of

greater importance in your life than anything else those
things that give your life the greatest sense of meaning and
purpose.
Your values are the generating source of your imagination
that goes on to form personal visions of what you would like
to see in your world. Ultimately, they determine the roles
you will naturally want to play to see those visions realized.
A purposely created, condensed list of values gives clarity
to your life by establishing the ideal targets and outcomes
for how you want to live. It is your best guide to what you
should do with your time if you want to live a life of true
value and significance.
Once you are exceptionally clear on your inner drivers, you
can purposely take control of your life by focusing your
time and effort on producing more of those values every
day.
You cant be or do everything. To determine what you
should be doing with your precious time, focusing on your
most desirable values is the most productive and satisfying
thing you can do.
You will naturally perform at your highest level possible
and become the most successful when you are working
toward something of high value compared to anything of
mediocre value.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 57
Summary

If you want to make your life more meaningful, you start by looking at
what is motivating you now. You can objectively observe which of your
current motivational drivers are delivering a sense of fulfillment, meaning
and purpose and which ones are not. You can then choose to increase your
time and effort on those that do and eliminate the ones that dont. Whenever
you purposely change the target for what you want to accomplish, achieve
or experience, your life from that moment on is instantly transformed.

Closing Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,

Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I pray that you will
forgive me for all my unfaithfulness in living
the values that you wanted me to live. Help me
to know what I am willing to die for... to live
for... what Im willing to give my entire life for.
Help me to know how this motivates my life, the
friends I will meet, the life I will make. Help me
to know where my ideal values will take me
and where you want me to go, Amen.
Personal Work to be done prior to Session 4

REVIEW: Chapter 6, My Values in SOP for additional insights of how

to identify your Top 10 Values.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
TO BE DONE: Print off a new My Top 10 Values worksheet found
inside the Believers Guide Form Pack at ThinkTQ.com. Confirm or
improve your Top 10 List and enter your final version on this separate
worksheet. You can photocopy this final version, post it where you will
always see it or keep a copy with you at all times.

58 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

WHY: This list is the source for your greatest happiness, significance
and service. It will show where to look to live your best life from this point
forward. This is an opportunity to purposely decide for yourself what is best
for you and right with God. This list will help provide clear direction for all
other decisions made from this point forward.

Personal Prayer For Clarity of Values: Father

in heaven, I do thank you for sharing my
moments with me throughout this process. And
now, I desire to... Stop. Reflect. And listen to
Your voice. Please, Lord, share with me what
You want me to hear, sense, record, feel or act
on at this time. I truly desire to live a life of true
value with You being my Guide into all that it
means to be a success in life.

Sharing with the Almighty: what an incredible

honor. Absolutely incredible. May the Name of
Your Son be glorified as a result! In His Name
I do pray. Amen.
Now Practice: Confirm The List

Review your currently drafted list of values. If this is what

you value most, are you living these values now? If so, how
is that working for you? Are they giving you meaning and
importance? Happiness? Satisfaction? Significance? If you
are currently living these values and they are producing a
life of true happiness and meaning, jump down to
Prioritize.
If you are successfully producing and experiencing these
values, but they are not delivering a true sense of
fulfillment and meaning, maybe its time to change your list
or the priority of the items on the list.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 59
Improve The List

Add a new value to the list that you think would improve
the quality or meaning of life right now. Consider inserting
any Christian values that are not currently on the list but
which you are absolutely sure are ones you want to live.
When you become crystal clear and convinced that a new
value is needed to be a part of your life and purposely act
on this new value, your entire life will shift dramatically.
Dont add a value word to your list unless you are
absolutely committed to making it one of your own with a
strong, heartfelt desire to acquire this value and
incorporate it into the true inner core of who you are, and
what you do, from this point on.
Prioritize The List

Prioritize your list of values from 1 to 10.

Example: Between A and B, which is more important to
you? If you could only have one, would it be A or B? You
say B?
Between B and C, which is more important to you? B?
Between B and D, which is more important to you? D?
Between D and E... etc. to end of list. Make final winner #1
and start over to find #2.

HINT: If one value creates the opportunity for the second, the second is
more valuable. Example: Wealth and Freedom. If the reason you want
wealth is that it will give you the freedom to do what you want, you value
freedom over wealth. If you value wealth because it gives you the time and
resources to be of service to others, then you value service over wealth. If
you value education because with education you can learn how to teach
people how to grow more food, then you value contributing to people over
education because education is the means that allows you to contribute.
Once completed, review the entire list and test yourself in how well you
have now defined who you are going to be and how you are going to live your
life from now on.
Verify The List

Can you verify that your final list is aligned and not in
conflict with any moral, ethical, spiritual or religious
principles? Are they good and right and worthy of
defining who you are and where you will spend your time
in exchange for living the only life you have?

60 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Can you say with confidence that Given my God-given
uniqueness, my God-given talents, gifts and interests, I
believe that I can serve God by living these values.
Can you say with enthusiastic conviction that from this day
forward, I will live a life of (value), (value), (value),
(value), (value), (value), (value), (value), (value) and
(value)?
Perform The List

Revise or repeat filling in your Top 10 Values Worksheet in

ink this time, including the meaning, example and positive
emotions associated with each Value.
If upon final review, you are absolutely sure that these
values are the right ones for you, then the question
becomes, How can you focus more of your life on these
values? Or put another away, How can you purposely put
more of these values into every area of your life every
day?
Imagine situations in your life where your performance will
improve and where you will become more successful now
that you are intentionally dedicated to achieving these Top
10 Values every day.
Make a list of the top five positive emotions you will
experience as you live your Top 10 Values. Imagine the
beauty and inspiration of what it would feel like to
experience these top five emotions as a result of living your
values.
Start this week by looking for ways that you can insert
these values into everything you do.
Write down at least one example of where you actually
lived what you say you value once this week and be ready
to share with the group at next session.

62 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our
walking is our preaching.

St. Francis of Assisi

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 63
Session 4: Declaring Your Ideal
Values
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I pray you will give
me clarity as to what I really need to value
most. I realize I have to have non-negotiable
values in my life that are totally aligned with
you. Help me to know what those are that I
would be courageous and willing to take a pub-
lic stand for You and not be ashamed. I pray
that you will make these values so important to
me that I am willing to die for them. I want my
values to be so clear, and so right, that it con-
trols every action and decision that I make. In
your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction

You get to choose what you want to declare as most important and
valuable in your life. If something you thought you valued doesnt give you
a genuine sense of satisfaction and significance, change it to another value
that will. After being absolutely clear what that is, you can then focus your
life in a conscious, dedicated effort to live and experience those positive
values every day. By doing this, you will make each day a successful day
on purpose.
Bible Meditation

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-
control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness,
mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these

qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective
and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-
8 (NIV)
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are
lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there
is anything praiseworthymeditate on these things. Philipians 4:8 (KJV)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for
salvation to everyone who believes. Romans 1:16 (NASB)
Dont copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you
will learn to know Gods will for you, which is good and pleasing and
perfect. Romans 12:2 (NLT)
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.
Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then
speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the
gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God
supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus
Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11
(NLT)
But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the
Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of
the Lord. And the Lord who is the spirit makes us more and more
like him, as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
(NLT)
My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true
love, which shows itself in action. 1 John 3:18 (GNT)

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Solomon A son of King David who became the King who built the
Temple.
ROLE: Project Developer.
VALUES: Faith, Wisdom, Family, Education, Excellence.
VISION: Fulfill fathers dream to build a permanent Temple for God.
MISSION: Construct a permanent Temple as the resting place for the
Ark of the Covenant.
Solomon was known for being the wisest man in history except for
Jesus. Furthermore, he also became the wealthiest man in history. How did
this happen? It happened because Solomon was very clear what he valued
in his role as leader of Gods people. The Lord had appeared to Solomon in
a dream, and God said, Ask for whatever you want me to give you.
Solomon gave God an answer and his answer came from what he valued the
most in his life. He said, So, give your servant a discerning heart to govern
your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. In other words,
he asked God to give him wisdom. God was so pleased with his answer
that God also blessed him with great wealth and honor.
King David, Solomons father, had consolidated his power and built a
permanent residence for himself, but the lack of a shrine of Yahweh seemed
unenviable to him. He said, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the Ark of God
dwelleth within curtains. Because his hands were stained with the blood
of his enemies, David was precluded from building a temple to the Lord,
but he collected materials, gathered treasure and purchased a site for the
construction. Prior to his fathers death, Solomon was aware of his fathers
dream and the preparations performed by his father for his dream of a
temple for the Ark of the Covenant.

66 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

So, 480 years after Israel came out of Egypt, King Solomon began to
build the temple. Solomon spent seven years building the temple out of
large blocks of stone and of cedar wood. He conscripted (drafted or forced)
30,000 men to construct the temple. In addition, there were 70,000 carriers
and 80,000 stonecutters as well as 3,300 supervisors who directed the
workmen. When completed, King Solomons temple was a magnificent
edifice that surpassed any preceding temples in its lavish beauty of its
detail and the opulence of its furnishings rather than its size. The ceiling
and floor of the Holy Place and the whole of the interior of the Holy of
Holies were overlaid with gold plate.
The Temple for the Ark of the Covenant was built, and Solomons
mission was accomplished due to the fact that he was absolutely committed
to making his and his fathers vision of a resting place for the Ark a reality
in his lifetime. It is important to understand this truth. Solomon had Clarity
of his Values, Clarity of the Vision and a Clarity of his Role, which led him
to a Conviction that the time and effort, manpower and resources spent on
this construction was the right thing to be done and his reign was the right
time to get it done. Solomon set his Expectation extraordinarily high for how
the temple would be built, and then he committed his entire work force to
the brilliant execution of its actual construction.
Solomons mission of dedicated service to God was a success
because he performed successfully on purpose.

1 Kings 3:3-14 Solomon gets wisdom and wealth.

Kings 5:3-5 Solomon Builds the Temple.

Introspection: Group Share and Support

Discuss if anyone added or removed any values from their

list from last session. If so, how will your life be different
when you focus more of your time on this new value? How
will your life change if you added a Christian value that
was not on your original list?
Discuss the benefit of prioritizing values when it comes to
choices, decisions, plans, goals and time available.
Discuss participants examples of top five values. Ask each
to explain their top choice and why these five are at the top
five instead of others.
Give examples where you are, and where you are not, living
this list now and how that is working for you in terms of
fulfillment, meaning and overall success.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 67
Read examples of top five emotions people will experience
as a result of living their Top 10 Values. Could life really
be that good?
Discuss what percent of your time is spent on the top
values on your list on a normal day? Over a week, month or
year? Is it enough? If not now... when?
You can live a more meaningful life by purposely putting
more meaning in your life. Discuss options and actions you
could take to cause your list to show up more frequently in
your life.
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Note the clarity that the speaker achieved by adding or removing a

value word from his/her list.
Listen for expressions of passion, sincerity, enthusiasm, eager
anticipation, fun, joy when they read the list of top five emotions they will
feel when they are living their values. Question where there is no
enthusiasm. Why not? No belief in attaining the values? No heartfelt
connection to the values?
Is their #1 really #1? Can you give an example of where you made a
decision to live a higher rated value over a lower one?
Notice how speakers change in regard to their enthusiasm, intensity
and commitment after they are clear and convinced of what they truly want
to get and give in their life.
Notice how natural it is for you to want to support and assist a speaker
to succeed after you know they are convinced of what they want.
Major Points to Review on Purposely Choosing Your Values

The time you spend, the actions you take and the results
you produce every day are living proof of what is most
important to you right now.
Once you carefully and purposely create a list of values,
they become your best reference of where to turn to make
the right decisions for you.
If you are not completely satisfied with the meaning and
importance of your life, you can change your list.
If you are happy with your values, but not living them, you
can change your life to focus more of your time on what you
value most.

68 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

For you to live your stated values, they have to jump off
your list and into your life. You must take action for them
to show up as an outward expression of your life.
When your values and God's are aligned, you are going in
the right direction and on the right path. You can now
proceed with the conviction and the courage to take the
next step forward toward your stated goal.

Summary

A list of values points you in the right general direction for where and
how to live your most meaningful and significant life.
Progress Report:

You have made great progress! You have created a short list of the most
valuable targets for your life. Through the help of God, thoughtful prayer
and soul-full meditation, you have purposely identified where you should
look to fulfill God's plan for you. Every effort put forth in that direction is
all by itself a success in life, because you are trading your precious
time for something you truly love.

Closing Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus, Great

and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and Ever-present
Holy Spirit, Help me and each member of my fam-
ily to never be intimidated or ashamed to affirm
Christian values in a non-Christian world. It is my
desire to live my values every day for the rest of my
life. I pray that my life is so transparent that peo-
ple will only see you and the values that really
matter to me today, tomorrow, and every moment
of my life. I dont know where my values will take
me; however, I do know that I want you to fill me
with your Spirit and trust that you will give me
direction and a mission to live the rest of my life
being the best that I can be as I live my values. In
your Holy Name I pray, Amen.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 69
Personal Work to be done prior to Session 5

READ: Chapter 7, in SOP to see how to actually create a future filled

with direct emotional connections to your most important values. The word
vision as used in this process simply refers to a mental picture of what a
person would like to see. It can come from your imagination or be given to
you by someone else or God Himself.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
LISTEN: SOP CD #5.
TO BE DONE: Create meaningful and significant dreams and visions
worthy of your time and effort and pleasing in Gods sight.
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: Turn to page 290 to 291 in SOP.
Alternatively, the leader can show a completed personal list and explains
how Values, Vision and Emotions paint a compelling picture in each
example.
WHY: If you want a more meaningful life, filled with satisfaction and
significance, you have to purposely put more meaning in your life. You do
this by purposely defining visions, goals and plans that you can work on
that will allow you to live your values. Inspiring and compelling visions
point you in the right direction, defining specific real-world possibilities,
situations, or events where you can actually live and experience what you
value. This helps focus your time and attention from all the things you could
do down to daily activities that are directly linked to your highest priorities.

Personal Prayer For Clarity Of Vision: Dear

Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty God, Truly
Awesome and Ever-present Holy Spirit, I pray
that you will give me a vision that inspires
everyone that hears it. I am asking that You
gift me with a clear vision that provides an
ideal future that you want to make real in my
life. I pray that I would be open to receive and
accept a gift from someone else's imagination.
Lord, I desire to move forward seeking You as

the Truth. I want to know and hear from you. I
pray that you would bless any vision that I gen-
erate by my own true heart and souls desire. In
your precious and Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Now Practice

1. Review the Discussion Questions at the end of the chapter. Identify

any questions that are especially meaningful to you and be prepared to
discuss them at the next session.
2. With no regard to HOW you are going to achieve the dreams...
complete the exercises found in Chapter 7. Have fun daydreaming through
these exercises and then put your dreams down on paper by filling in the
blanks for each exercise found inside this chapter.
3. Tell your Top Five Visions to someone who will support you in
achieving them.
4. Continue to record when and where you are living your values this
week.

Session 5: Creating a Vision
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus, Great
and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and Ever-present
Holy Spirit, Give me a clear mind and an open
heart to see you and know what you want for me.
Give me a clear view so that I can see the visions
you have for me. I pray that you give me the power
to live my life with excellence in every area of my
life. Father, I truly want to live my life with pas-
sion and purpose as a winner. In your love and in
your grace, may I always stand secure in knowing
you love me and you gave your life for me. All
these things I humbly pray in your name, Amen.
Introduction

To win any mission, you need to first create highly compelling visions
for what you want to accomplish, experience or contribute. Visions are very
specific outcomes, events or experiences you want to produce. When
projected into your future, they provide the answer for what you will do
to live your best life possible. They can range from being weak and fuzzy,
poorly defined and unrewarding to being crystal clear, inspiring and
strongly compelling. The more valuable and beautiful the vision, the greater
will be your desire to do your best in a passionate pursuit of this prize and
the more successful you will become.
Bible Meditation

Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who
reads it. Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV)
I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.

law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

JOSEPH The son of Jacob who rose to prominence in Egypt.

VALUES: Faith, Service, Purity, Family, Leadership, Courage.
VISION: A nation saved from starvation including his own people, the
children of Israel.
ROLE: Prime Minister of Egypt, Project Manager.
MISSION: Warehouse enough food to feed a nation for Seven years.
Joseph was raised in wisdom and love by a father who taught him the
VALUE of being responsible for his choices in life and serving others.
Josephs father had big hopes and dreams for his son, and Joseph did too
for himself. These grand hopes would be realized, but not without first going
through some true trials and tribulations. Due to jealousy and other bad
circumstances, Joseph found himself in places he never imagined being in.
Places like a prison, working as a slave, serving the Pharaoh, and tossed
back in prison.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 75
Regardless of his age or situation, Joseph never lost sight of the
importance of doing the right thing as determined by his faith in God. He
consistently demonstrated his ability to take responsibility for his actions and
an unselfish desire to help and serve other people.
Joseph was blessed by a gift from God to interpret Dreams. One day the
Pharaoh began to dream dreams and asked for help on what they meant.
Josephs name was given to the King as one who could help. When asked if he
could, Joseph told the Pharaoh that he could not interpret the dream; however,
his God could (Joseph gave God the glory.) God used Joseph to interprete the
Kings dreams to mean they would have seven good years of harvest and then
seven years of famine.
Ultimately, Joseph found favor with the King and was given the ROLE (see
above) of Prime Minster to prepare for the coming famine. They created a
VISION (see above) to save the nation from starvation. Joseph focused on the
duties of a project manager whose MISSION and responsibility was to collect
and store a surplus of food from seven good years, so it would be available for
the seven years of famine that followed.
Regardless of any role he was in prisoner, prophet or prime minister
Joseph lived his life as a clear testament to his faith, to service, purity,
family and leadership. Given his conviction, Joseph had the courage to take
on both the opportunity and the responsibility of each role with the dedication
of being and doing his absolute best at each one.

Introspection: Group Share and Support

Review and celebrate each person's Top Five Visions list.

Discuss what life would be like if the visions were already
achieved. How would they pay off each persons values? Can
you imagine how great that would be? What positive emotions
are linked directly to those values and visions?
Clarify the visions in greater detail for all to see and
understand. If any one person doesnt understand the vision, it
is not described clearly enough.
Report on how long this has been a desirable vision for you.
Declare how much longer you are going to wait to see it made
real.
76 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Rate your Top Five Visions on a desirability scale of 1 to
10 and explain why you scored each one.
Consider if it would be desirable to further clarify or
expand the vision even more. Discuss if it can be made
brighter? Bigger? More valuable? A greater contribution? A
bigger influence on more people?
Consider if it would be better to reduce the big picture of
the vision down to a specific element or a part of the bigger
picture that the participant can focus on as their own
achievement or contribution.
Discuss connection between participants values and this
vision is there a direct link? Are there other Top 10
Values that could be added to the vision somehow to make
it even more valuable?
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Listen for sincerity. Highly compelling dream? Real dream? Pipe

dream? Cool dream? Day dream?
Ask why the speaker would like to have this situation, condition or
experience? Listen for how truly valuable this vision is to the speaker or is
it just something that would be nice if it came true? If the speaker is
successful in achieving this vision, will he look back on the time and effort
and say that it was meaningful? Worthwhile? Significant? If so, why or why
not?
Exactly how each vision will actually be achieved is not important for
this session. However, discussing the actual reality of a vision should be
considered, provided it is beneficial to the speaker. Keep conversation
upbeat, positive and inspiring. If a person or the group ever gets too critical
or the speaker is too defensive remind everyone that this is a support
group that has agreed to assist and support each other without being
negative or critical.
Notice the excitement and support that is naturally generated inside the
group when they can tell that someone truly and wholeheartedly wants to
produce a grand and valuable vision.

Major Points to Review on Vision

A Vision is a BIG PICTURE of an ideal future that you

want to make real. The vision can be a gift from God, a gift
from someone elses imagination or it can be generated by
your own true heart and souls desire.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 77
Values tell you what you want. Visions tell you where you
will find it in the physical world.
To live a life of true and meaningful service a life of
happiness, satisfaction and significance you must first
describe the details of what an ideal life would be
before you can start to produce it.
Choosing to achieve a value-justified vision gives you
meaning, importance and direction for how to live your
best life now.
Visions that are directly linked to your most heartfelt, core
personal values generate the greatest source of passion
and power within you driving you to be a success.
Imagining your best life should never be limited by how it
will get done. The how will either be determined or
provided and the passion and desire will produce the
commitment to be the best you can be to make it happen.
Visions and Goals are not the same. For example: A
Vision is the picture on the outside cover of a jigsaw
puzzle. Goals are the commitments you make to assemble
each of the pieces of the puzzle that will produce the
picture on the cover. Goals will come later in Session 8.

Summary

Visions are expressions of our greatest dreams and desires. When they
are linked to our true values, they are a source of great inspiration and
hope. They point us in the direction for where we should spend our time
and become the targets for our greatest contributions and life experiences.
Progress Report

You have now created a list of inspirational and rewarding visions and
dreams of what could be possible. Just think if these visions were already
in your life now! You have made major progress in defining your best life.
It is far easier to succeed at producing something when you have a picture
of what you want it to look like before you start!
But you can't stop here or they will remain nothing but nice thoughts
and wishes. You must continue on and agree that you are the one who is
called to take on the role and the responsibility for making these visions
real.

78 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Closing Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus, Great
and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and Ever-present
Holy Spirit, it is my prayer that you give me clarity
of the visions that you have for me. I also pray that
you give me and the people that I work with the abil-
ity to clarify and be united for each of our common
visions. As I seek to find my natural mission and
authentic direction in my life, I am going to move
forward with creating the best vision that I know
how to create. Lord, I am trusting that you will show
me the perfect vision(s) that you have for me or give
me the peace of mind to continue what I feel is right
and the best vision at this time, Amen.

between your Visions and your Roles and to set crystal clear expectations
for the rest of your life. Read discussion questions at the end of Chapter 8,
and come to the next session with any questions that you find most relevant
to you.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
LISTEN: SOP CD # 5.
TO BE DONE: Identify and clarify your current and future roles the
parts you will play to make your dreams come true.
WHY: Your roles are where you spend your time. They determine your
happiness, satisfaction and sense of significance in return for the precious
time you spend each day.
You might have a grand vision, perhaps even put there specifically by
God Himself, but until you create a role that is BIG ENOUGH for you to
pursue the vision, nothing is going to happen.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 79
You should never take this lightly. By taking on a role you are saying
Yes, I will be the one to make this happen. When you do, it becomes your
job and responsibility to put forth your best effort to live up to the challenge
of actually delivering on these grand visions. By taking on a role, you stop
being a victim of circumstances and take control of your actions and the
results you produce.
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: Review Roles listed in SOP on page
188 to 193. Additionally, the group leader may choose to show their
completed form(s).

Personal Prayer For Clarity of Roles: Thinking

about who I am, who I can become, and how I
can get where I feel I should head, I am almost
stopped in my tracks while considering what
having and creating the right roles can mean
for me.
First, Lord, I pray to sense Your presence in all
the roles I find myself in at the present time.
And, as I reflect on the possibilities of creating
roles that empower me to live the way I desire
to live, I seek the same Presence, Your pres-
ence... at all times and in every way.
How could I even begin to think about living
outside of Your presence, Lord? Strengthen me
never to do that. Never. Youve done too much
for me. Praise You! What an honor to think
that I could not only live for You, but to invite
You to share in the creation of my life from this
moment until I meet you in the home You have
prepared for me! I sing your praise this day
and in Your Name I pray, Amen.

Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I come to you asking
for clarity for each of the roles that I am cur-
rently playing as well as the roles that I choose
to create in the future to accomplish the mis-
sions that you have for me. Lord, I know I must
be passionate about the activities, the responsi-
bilities and the opportunities that are a part of
these roles. Increase my faith that I would have
higher expectations and the wisdom to execute
brilliantly. In your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction

To win your missions and make your dreams come true, you must take
on a role that gives you both the opportunity and the responsibility to make
your valuable visions a success in the real world. This is why, from a
performance perspective, your purpose in life is to create and empower
roles where you can live your values and achieve your visions.
Choosing a role, clarifying it carefully, and committing everything you
have to this role is the most powerful thing you can do to achieve the
success you want. Once you accept the role, it then becomes your duty to
perform this role with the highest level of skill and persistence possible to
achieve the vision and make it real.
Bible Meditation

Seek to Do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

You, son of man, are the watchman. Ive made you a watchman for
Israel. The minute you hear a message from me, warn them. If I say to the
wicked, Wicked man, wicked woman, youre on the fast track to death! and
you dont speak up and warn the wicked to change their ways, the wicked
will die unwarned in their sins and Ill hold you responsible for their
bloodshed. But if you warn the wicked to change their ways and they dont
do it, theyll die in their sins well-warned and at least you will have saved
your own life. Ezekiel 33:7-9 (MSG)
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are
lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there
is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8
(NKJV)

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Mary A woman who was given the responsibility of raising the Son
of God.
ROLE: Mother, a blessed servant of the Most High.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 85
VALUES: Faith, Family, Service, Education, Strength, Perseverance,
Courage.
VISION: God Almighty smiling; His Son embraced in a Moms human
Love.
MISSION: Raise the Fathers Son in love and joy.
Mary was a young woman who an angel described as One who found
favor with God. We know little about her, but what we do know is
significant. She was a follower of God; and as a follower, God chose her for
a very special and, yet very familiar role to the women of the world.
He chose her to be a mom. Nothing more; yet, certainly nothing less.
While it is not said what responsibilities were given to her as a mom,
we can only assume that she was to love Jesus, raise Him according to the
Jewish teachings of the day, and continue to be a servant in her own right,
which from what we know of her in the Bible, she did very successfully.
Here was a woman who was given the responsibility to mother, just
like all other mothers who had gone before her. Reflecting on the person of
Mary including Mary in the silent years of Jesus cannot we
envision Mary teaching Jesus to appreciate familiar sights from the
Galilean hills: the sower of crops, the shepherds and their sheep, vineyards
and fig trees?
And can we not see Mary placing a small measure of yeast into flour
before baking and watching it rise only to share with Jesus her thoughts
regarding the remarkable ways the kingdom of God touches all things? May
we not see her comfortably with Joseph, Jesus, and her other
children, sharing, trusting and serving all in a loving home environment?
One can hardly guess what Mary must have felt during those tragic
days when they arrested and crucified her Son. Imagine what she thought
as she stood on the road as Jesus passed by carrying his cross. When all his
disciples fled, she remained with him. Steadfast to her personal mission, yet
helpless to do anything else, she watched her dying Son and offered her
love. When he died, they took him down from the cross and placed him in
her arms. She held him gently, her child of long ago.
Mary was, by her own description... A servant of the Lord. A consistent,
faithful servant. And as such, we identify her as one who successfully
performed her mission in life as joyful as it was at times and as heart-
breakingly difficult as it must have been at other times. You might say that
Mary demonstrated an on purpose success. Her values were evident. She
was clear about her roles as a mom and wife. Her commitment was absolute
and her courage to live out her commitment to the Lord left an imprint not

only on her son Jesus, but on the entire world as well through what we read
of her in the Bible.
Introspection: Group Share and Support

Review the Possible Role Exercise on page 350 of SOP.

Comment on which of the five possible roles a participant
created would be best for that person. What did the group
base their recommendations on? Skills? Passion?
Connection to values? Size? Clarity?
Discuss completed Roles forms. Any insight gained from
filling out these exercises? Are your activities and
responsibilities aligned with values? With Strengths? With
Vision?
Discuss examples of roles where there is a direct alignment
of all components and the degree of conviction that this is a
good role for you.
Discuss roles that are not currently satisfying or
empowering or productive. What can be done to add or
clarify values associated with this role? Resolve conflicting
values? Create a more inspiring vision for the role? Which
roles do you just need to get out of graciously?
Discuss roles that could be changed or redefined to be
more directly responsible for achieving the stated vision
or should you change the stated vision to be more
specifically aligned with the role?
Discuss where you are spending your time now. Rewarding
or not? Discuss ways where each person could increase the
percent of time spent on roles that produce the greatest
reward to them.
Review top three values, top three visions and top three
roles of each participant from their Personal Work. See how
well all three overlap with each other. Are there are any
missing legs that need to get filled in or added to this list
to turn the work done so far into complete missions?

Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Listen for ownership and personal responsibility for each role. How
committed is the speaker to the role? Is the role appropriate for the
speaker given his/her skills, background, experience, talents, resources
and time availability? If not, how committed are they to gaining what
they need so that they can succeed?

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 87
How much belief does the speaker have that he/she can be
successful? What, if anything, is holding the speaker back from
believing or being more enthusiastic about this role?
What size and type of vision does the speaker have for each role?
Inspiring? Minimally acceptable?
What does the speaker need to be, to do or get to improve his/her
chances of succeeding in this role?
Discuss what the role will purposely not include what
responsibilities or activities will the speaker purposely not take on, but
rather share or delegate to someone else?

Major Points to Review on Roles

A role is the part you play to make something happen. It

includes your job description, the activities required, the
skills and attitude required to successfully perform the role
and an absolute commitment to achieving the goals of the
mission.
Success starts when you accept a role as your own, and
then put your whole heart and soul, head and hands into
the role.
To be successful, every role must have a highly desirable
vision and a deep and direct connection to the values you
believe are important to you.
If you are not passionate about your role, you will never
live up to the true potential that could be possible within
the role, and you will look back on the time spent with true
regret.
To succeed in any role, you must be committed to the
activities, the responsibilities and the opportunities that are
a part of the role.
No matter how you spend your time now, it is possible to
begin to steer your life in the direction where more and
more of your time is invested in roles that are the most
valuable to you.
Summary
You live your life in roles. Some were put on you. Some were acquired by
accident. Some you took on with minimal thought. To gain control and power
over your life, you must purposely re-create and nurture each role you are in
by defining an ideal vision of what you want to accomplish and connecting to
the real value you will receive from performing the role.

Progress Report

Youve done great work! You now have a tremendous amount of Clarity.
You can now SEE your true values, SEE compelling visions and SEE the
roles that you are in now and the ones you want to take on in the immediate
future. Now all you have to do is insert these clearly defined variables into
their own mission triangle to arrive at the right starting point for a life of
happiness, meaning and service.

Closing Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,

Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I come asking that
you help me clarify every role that I am
involved in. I know that at any point I might
find myself playing multiple roles at any given
time. Help me to discern what is the right role
for the right reasons at the right time. In your
Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Personal Work to be done prior to Session 7

READ: Chapter 9, My Purpose, My Life, in SOP to go through a

process that will help you determine and define your authentic direction
and purpose.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on
personal work to be completed here.
LISTEN: CD Achieve Success On Purpose.
TO BE DONE: Create mission triangles for a minimum of five of the
most important missions in your life.
WHY: To answer the big questions... What does God want me to do?
How in the world am I going to make that happen? What is the best use of
my time and talents? Where will I find true and lasting success? How can
I put more meaning in my life? How can I live my best life now?
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: See examples on pages 378 and 394
in SOP. Leaders can show one of their personal mission triangles and
explain why it is the right mission for them.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 89
Personal Prayer For Conviction: Dear Precious
Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty God, Truly
Awesome and Ever-present Holy Spirit, it is my
prayer that you help me to know my natural
mission and authentic direction for each and
every mission for my life. Help me to articulate
that mission. Father, I pray for a new lease on
life, and I am completely open to a new life
calling. Its in You that I Trust, Amen.
Now Practice

Fill in a new mission triangle for each of the following mission

categories:
1. Faith.
2. Personal Growth.
3. Relationships.
4. Church/Community Service.
5. Career.

Here is your chance to create your best possible life the ideal life
you believe God wants you to live by defining what you will do with your
life. Youve already done most of the work inside the Values, Vision and
Roles Chapters. All you have to do now is put all the variables together in
one place and you will be at the Right Starting Point for a successful,
satisfying, significant and God-serving life.
Follow the instructions given from page 379 through page 389 in SOP
for one Role in each of your five most important mission categories listed
above. Confirm that you have an absolute "YES!" for each.

90 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Remember, at the time of creating missions, you only need to be
convinced that they are the right missions. Do not concern yourself with
the how you are going to achieve the mission. Trust that the how will
come later if indeed it is the right one for you to pursue.
FIND CONVICTION:
Confirm that each mission is crystal clear, that you are
convinced it is the right mission for you, and that you are
committed to do whatever you can to make it real.
Confirm that God would be pleased with your
accomplishment of this list of missions.
FIND TIME:
Print off two copies of the My Purpose My Life,
Calendar found inside the Believers Guide Form Pack.
Read pages 396 to 400 in SOP and map out your best life
by filling in the My Purpose My Life Calendar using
all of the five missions created above and any others you
have assembled using other roles.
If upon review of your completed My Purpose My Life
Calendar you dont have the clarity and conviction that this
is the right life for you to live over the next 15 years, go
back and make a change.
Copy your filled-in Calendar over to a second My Purpose
My Life Form. You will need the second copy for a
very insightful exercise at the end of the next session.

know that You are worthy to be worshiped, and
I desire to have fellowship with You. I also
believe that you may have additional purposes
or missions that you want me to accomplish. I
am trusting that by aligning my visions, values
and roles, I will discover my natural missions
to create a life that will be a starting point that
will bring me happiness, satisfaction, signifi-
cance and a peace of mind. For this Lord, I will
surrender my all to You, and I will give you the
praise and glory. In your precious name, Amen.

Bible Mediation

We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts

what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what
I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as
good as being Gods messenger. Accepting someones help is as good as
giving someone help. This is a large work Ive called you into, but dont be
overwhelmed by it. Its best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to
someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving
makes you a true apprentice. You wont lose out on a thing. Matthew
10:40-42 (NIV)

Inspirational Quotations

To win true peace, a man/woman needs to feel himself directed,

road, at the point where God would have him be in order with God and
the universe. This faith gives strength and calm. Henri Frederic Amiel
First, have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal, an objective.
Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends; wisdom, money,

than you ever dreamed yourself to be. Patanjali

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 95
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Moses A man who became the leader of the Israelites and freed
them from slavery in Egypt.
ROLE: Head Coach, Freedom Fighter.
VALUES: Faith, Freedom, Family, Courage, Humility, Teamwork,
Organization.
VISION: The Israelites nation is free from bondage and living in the
land of milk and honey.
MISSION: Lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and to the
Promised land.
Moses is honored as a freedom hero by people of all faiths. How curious
that God would find a man with a speech impediment to speak on behalf of
Him. Moses is a great example of someone who took on a role because it
was the right thing to do and not because he thought it would be something
that would help him personally get ahead. He stuttered. He lost his temper.
Yet, he freed an entire nation.
It has been said that God works in mysterious ways, but the important
thing to remember is God works.
Consider this: Do you think Moses had the entire Exodus planned out
in advance? Do you think that he had all the answers for this journey
resolved before he took on the mission of moving his people from one
country to another? Do you think that he knew in absolute certainty how he
was going to feed this entire host of people who were about to set out on
foot? Would there be water when they needed it? How about firewood for
cooking? Feed for the livestock?
No doubt, Moses would have asked himself these complex logistical
questions before he committed to the journey and commanded his people
to take their first step. It is also certain that he did not have all the answers
when he said, Lets go now. You see, Moses believed in God and Gods
vision for his people. He would have never started if he knew that God
wasnt going to be with him. Moses was a man capable of high expectations
high expectations for himself, his people and, most of all, of God. He was
also a man of action that believed that they would find a way or be given a
way as long as they took the initial actions as instructed by God.
From that point, Moses had to wake up every morning with a job to do,
and he had to perform it brilliantly. He had to keep his eyes on the big
vision as he made each day of leading his people one of survival and of
success. You know that Moses asked God to help him with achieving this
great vision. You can also bet he asked more than once a day.
96 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Now, do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs?
Or that He wont help you on your missions? Our God is an Awesome God!
When you have clarity of your values and are confident they are aligned
with what God wants for you, you will have the conviction to proceed
even when you dont know everything down to the smallest detail of how you
are going to accomplish your mission. You commit to what you can see you
can do, and you pray that you will discover or be given the instructions for
what to do next. This gives you the courage to take the first step and the next
down your road. And when you step out, know that you are walking in faith
with others, just like Moses, as you achieve the most important missions in
your life.
Hebrews 11:27-29 By Faith Moses left.
Exodus 7:6 He Obeyed.
Introspection: Group Share and Support

Review participants newly created mission triangles.

Confirm that all three variables are aligned and directly
linked to each other within the same mission.
List the expectations, positive emotions and experiences to
be lived with each one.
Continue to refine, challenge, and expand participant's
three variables for each triangle until the participant is
convinced they have correctly defined the right three
variables and the group clearly understands what that
mission is.
Compare and contrast the mission triangles completed prior
to Session 2 with these new mission triangles. Where the
triangles stayed the same, there is now tremendous
confirmation and affirmation that these are the right
missions for you. Where they have been filled in, clarified,
grown or changed entirely, the new missions are a
tremendous improvement from where you were headed six
weeks ago.
Finish the mission presentation by having participants rate
the desirability of the mission on a scale of 1 to 10.
Discuss how it feels to see your missions entered into a
personal calendar for the next 15 years. Can you now
clearly see how your life could be? Are you convinced that
this future is the right one for you? Can you see an
authentic direction for your life? Are you willing to commit
to this future?

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 97
Exercise: Tearing up Picture Exercise that leads to Goals
and the need for Personal Power. Use the second copy of
the My Purpose My Life Form as the picture of
what you want. (See pages 26 to 29 in Success On Purpose
for more.)
Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Is the stated mission clear or still a little too ambiguous? Does the
presentation of the mission by the speaker lead directly to the next logical
step of figuring out how the mission will be accomplished? Is the mission
so clearly stated that you could hand it over to a stranger to achieve with no
further instructions and hope to get back the results you expected?
Is the stated role directly responsible for achieving the vision? They
must. If not, should the speaker further redefine the job description that is
the role or change the specification of the target that is the vision?
Should the role be further subcategorized to better focus in on the
responsibilities and activities that will be performed? Example of a Role:
Father? Or, given the vision and values, would it be better to be a Mentor,
Teacher, Provider, Friend, Role Model, Comforter, Protector, or...?
Is the vision crystal clear to everyone? Succinctly defined? Directly
connected to the stated values?
What about the size of each of the variables? Are they in the right
proportion to each other? Could they be increased? Should they be
increased? Which variable is holding back the big dream and the big
possibility right now?
How realistic is the mission given the speakers conviction?
Dedication? Skills? Experience? Resources? Time availability? Do
remember that conviction has the power to trump all other deficiencies.
Can you tell how accomplishing this vision will make the speaker feel?
Enthused? Excited? Hopeful? Challenged? Energized? Can you hear and
see any conflict with the speakers other missions or Gods plan for the
speaker in the accomplishment of this mission?
If the speaker gives their mission a desirability score of less than eight,
which leg needs to be changed to increase the desirability or believability
of the mission? Or should they give this one up and create a new, more
desirable use of their time and energy?
Keep conversations focused on filling in the blanks of Values, Vision
and Roles. There are many ways to arrive at defining a mission. This
conversation should stay focused on the three variables when looking for a
solution.
98 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
During this session, do not attempt to solve a persons mission by
coming up with ways to achieve the vision beyond simply clarifying what
the mission is. It is too early to get down to details or techniques that should
be employed. This session is still only to confirm that this is the right
mission for the speaker to take on. You will get a chance to help figure out
the details for what needs to be done to achieve the mission in the next
session. You can also arrange for an appointed time with the speaker
outside of the session to help contribute to the speakers success on their
mission.
When completed correctly, the stated mission is obvious to everyone in
the group. There is no ambiguity. No disconnect between variables. There
is an obvious expectation for what will be done and strong desire to go
achieve the mission. This is usually accompanied by an equally strong
desire from the group for the participant to achieve the mission.

Major Points to Review on Mission Triangles

By clarifying your most important values, visions and roles,

you have simultaneously and automatically defined your
authentic direction and your lifes work.
You bring your heavenly Christian purpose down to earth
when you define the roles you will play and the most
important, rewarding and significant results you will
produce in your life.
The conviction that you are on the right mission is a direct
result of the clarity and desirability of your three variables.
By focusing your time on these targets and intentionally
performing at the highest level to achieve these results, you
will live a successful life because you will be living what
you value every day.
The success of your mission demands a total commitment
to the role and the individual goals that must be achieved
to produce the vision.
When you have a highly compelling prize in sight, your
heart, head and hands all pull in the same direction. This
gives you the unlimited passion and power to constantly
improve your actions as you overcome any obstacles that
stand between you and your desired target.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 99
Summary

Your mission is to take full responsibility for what you can do to achieve
your most heartfelt visions. When you do, every day will be a living
testament to what you value most.
Progress Report

Congratulations! You are at the right starting point for a life of Success
on Purpose. You now have at least five magnificent, valuable missions that
are worthy of the only life you have to live here on earth. They are aligned
with what you believe God wants you to do. They are connected to your
deepest values that come from your heart and your head.
You have achieved the first two qualifications of a Winners Mindset:
You have gained the Clarity and Conviction that what you want to do is the
right thing for you to be doing. This is incredibly powerful!

Closing Prayer: I know, Lord, that I need to be

convicted about whatever I commit myself to
pursuing. And, to me, this conviction lies right
next to the entire concept of being clear on
where You would have me head at this stage of
my journey.

As I reflect on the idea of conviction these

days, I invite you into my thoughts. Enlarge
my heart to hear You in the way and continue
to confirm that which You are leading me to be
convicted about as I continue on my Success
On Purpose pathway with You.

I stand amazed at your amazing grace! Thank

You! In Jesus Name. Amen.

This Mission. Repeat for each mission.
THIS IS IMPORTANT. Now that you have perfected your missions,
dont turn them into secret missions. Print multiple copies and hand out to
everyone who could be a beneficiary of your mission or who could be a
cheerleader or a co-worker toward your mission.
For example, give a copy of your Relationship Mission to the other
person in your relationship: your husband, wife, son, daughter, mother,
father, etc. Give a copy of your Church/Community Mission to your pastor
and others you will be working with to achieve your mission. Give a copy of
your Career Mission to your boss or to your employees. Ask them to keep
you accountable. Ask for support and assistance. Ask them to join this
valuable mission and contribute their unique time and talents to its
success.
READ: Chapter 10, in SOP to understand how to move beyond your
starting point and into the Winners Circle.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of the next session for inspiration and guidance on

LISTEN: SOP CD # 6.
TO BE DONE: Make your visions a reality by committing to a whole
series of specific goals you can achieve, one after another, as you work
toward the bigger picture of what you have promised to produce.
WHY: Your missions give you an authentic direction for your life. You
now need the directions for how to get there. You cant complete a mission
in one step. You must identify the objectives and the strategy for how you
are going to assemble all of the pieces-parts into the whole vision
successfully. These goals then become the focus for your time and attention
the actions and activities that give you a chance to live your values
on a daily basis. Your success in this mission is assured as long as you
commit to assembling each of the individual pieces into the whole picture
of your desired vision.

Calendar that leads to their 15-Year Time Horizon Calendar with defined
Goals and Deadlines and finally weekly goals inside their commonly used
calendar system.
Note: The My Purpose My Life Calendar shows the duration of
time, from beginning to end, for each mission. This is to help understand
that you need to live your values every single day from the very first day to
the very last day of the mission.
The 15-Year Calendar is for identifying specific goals with landmark
dates for when something will be started or accomplished. Goals are
specific, real world events that you promise will occur by a specified date.
They are components of the vision individual steps that must be
achieved to systematically accomplish the entire mission.

in the last session to get the Big, Big Picture.

102 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Take each mission and identify the major milestones,
objectives or goals needed to complete each mission and
enter these as deadlines into your 15-Year Time Horizon.
Continue to break the first several major goals into a whole
series of smaller goals that must be accomplished to
achieve the larger goals. Write this entire series of smaller
goal deadlines into the appropriate months of your 15-
Year Time Horizon. Add as many goals and details as you
can predict at this time.
When you attempt to fit all your plans into the same
calendar, you may have to prioritize what is most important
to you. Your calendar may already be completely filled with
all kinds of priorities before you even begin to add these
new goals. If so, this could be a critical pivot point in your
life. Up until now, all of this wonderful values, vision and
mission work has been entirely theoretical. Now you have
to make a choice.
What are going to do next month? How are you going to
spend your limited time in the month after that? Does
something else have to go? If you cant do it all, what are
you going to keep? You make that decision by what you put
in your calendar. Plan carefully because the
appointments you make in your calendar determine your
appointment with destiny.
Once you get down to the level of short term goals that you want to
accomplish within the next few months, it is best to switch over to your
normal calendar system the one you use now to enter your other goals
and appointments.
Make sure that the first goal to be accomplished for each mission is
written as a committed deadline date in your working calendar. These
immediate, first step goals will become the focus for the remainder of the
exercises for these sessions.

104 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

First, have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal,
an objective. Second, have the necessary means to
achieve your ends; wisdom, money, materials, and
methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 105

Session 8: A Commitment to
Goals and Plans
Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am acutely
aware of what the term commitment can,
and should, mean in my walk with You. And
quite honestly, I feel that I fall short so many
times along the way. But I also fully realize
that you see and that you care. You
acknowledge the victory days and those not so
victorious moments along the path.

So as I continually reflect on designing and

living my life before your throne, I ask you for
strength of heart. Strength to commit where I
can and lay aside what I must as well. I thank
you that your commitment led to a cross that
paid the price for me to be not only all I should
be, but all I could be. In Your precious Name I
pray, Amen.
Introduction

Your most important missions in life, as beautiful and sacred as they

may be, remain nothing but hopes and wishes until you commit to taking
the actual steps necessary to achieve them. At this point, you need to
reduce your vision down from the Big Picture and start identifying the
individual pieces that must be created and assembled to make the whole
picture a success. Then you must make a committed promise to yourself in
your calendar for when you will complete each of these individual pieces.
This creates time-urgent deadlines that help you prioritize your limited
time toward pursuing these goals instead of other ones of far less value.

A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Bible Mediation

I know the plans I have for you, announces the Lord. I want you to
enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years
to come. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIRV)
Stick with me, friends. Keep track of those you see running this same
course, headed for this same goal. Philippians 3:17 (MSG)
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called
me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 (NIV)

Inspirational Quotations

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back

always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative, and creation there
is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and
splendid plans that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then
providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one, never otherwise,
would have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision,
raising in ones favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and
material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come
his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethes couplets:
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius,
power and magic in it. W. H. Murray
Most of us serve our ideals by fits and starts. The person who makes
a success of living is one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it
unswervingly. Thats dedication. Cecil B. De Mille
In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do;
it is not really the time but the will that is lacking. Sir John Lubbock
I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting
devotion to the things you want to see happen. Frank Lloyd Wright.
Not the maker of plans and promises, but rather the one who offers
faithful service in small matters. This is the person who is most likely to
achieve what is good and lasting. Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
An individual cannot know what he is until he has made himself real
by action. Georg W. F. Hegel.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 107

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

Joshua A man who succeeded Moses, and led the Israelites into
Canaan.
ROLE: Head Coach.
VALUES: Faith, Trust, Courage, Authenticity, Teamwork, Strategic
Planning.
VISION: The Ark of the Covenant and his people are living in the land
of milk and honey.
MISSION: Lead Gods people and the Ark of the Covenant safely into
the Promised Land.
When Moses died, God chose Joshua to lead Israel. Joshua wasnt a
man who bragged about what he did or what he would do. The focus of this
story is not about Joshua leading his people into Canaan to fight great
battles to earn the land that was promised to them. This is about a
commitment to a Vision by a man who accepted the role of leader, the one
responsible for taking the Ark of the Covenant and Gods people safely over
to the Promised Land.
When God chose Joshua to lead Israel, he gave him a great promise:
As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. The fact was that Joshua was
to lead a group of people who had been on a losing streak for 40 years. It
seems that Joshua may have been somewhat fearful about being chosen to
lead the people, because God told him to Be of good courage. Again He
told Joshua, Only be thou strong and very courageous. And just to make
sure he didnt miss the point, God repeated, Be strong and of a good
courage.
God understood that Joshua had the faith and the trust to take on this
important role. Joshua was prepared to perform the duties God had given
him because he was convinced that his desire for his team of people moving
into the Promised Land was also Gods Vision for His chosen people.
It is important for us to trust God when we are asked to do something
new. If we trust in our own strength, we are sure to fail. Because Joshua
trusted God, he took on this leadership role and focused on achieving its
highly desirable Vision. Joshuas conviction in the big Vision of Gods
promise gave him the courage to perform his work in spite of all the fears
they were facing. He turned to the people and began to instruct them. They
responded by accepting his leadership, and then he added a word of
encouragement to them, Only be strong and of a good courage.

108 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

The first of many of Joshuas goals in the accomplishment of his mission
was to cross the Jordan River. Joshua told the priest to take the Ark of the
Covenant and stand in the Jordan, and His people would follow 1000 feet
behind the Ark. The priest and Joshua had enormous faith in following
Gods instructions, and he was certain that the Ark of the Covenant would
first cross the Jordan River so that the people would be willing and ready
to follow God over to the Promised Land.
His faith and trust were rewarded; the Jordan was stopped, and the
people crossed over on dry ground. This miracle obviously connects with
the miracle the nation knew some 40 years earlier: the passing through the
Red Sea. God brought them out of Egypts bondage with a miracle, and He
brought them in to the Promised Land with a miracle, thereby showing us
that Faith leads us into greater victories than law ever could.
By faith and trust in Gods Vision, Joshua courageously performed
his duty and was a Success... On purpose.

Num 14:6-10 Joshuas confidence in God.

Josh 1:1-9 Gods faithfulness to Joshua.
Introspection: Group Share and Support

Review each persons game plan for how they are going to
go from mission, to goals, to plans, to a calendar. Continue
to clarify and improve participants plans. This is a
problem-solving session to help determine what must get
done for each mission to be successful. What are all the
pieces that must be put in place? Who, what, when, how,
where...?
Describe one entire series of milestones that you have
identified as goals you must achieve to reach the finish line
of one of your missions. Ask if anyone sees any other steps
or objectives you should add to this list.
Select the very first goal within each mission and discuss
specifically what it will take to succeed at it down to a
daily or weekly plan. Understand that if you don't get to
the first milestone, you'll never get any further either. Ask
for suggestions or ideas to improve the plan.
Make a commitment a promise to the group that you
will achieve each of the very first goals in your calendar.
Seek and offer support and solutions for what the
participant will need to guarantee their success at these
first steps.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 109

Discuss the difference between waiting prayers and
working prayers God and you working together to
produce the success for Gods plan and your life. Get God.
Get Clear. Get Going!
Discuss the obvious need for performing on purpose.
Success depends on clear expectation first, but then one
must execute to produce the desired result. The bigger the
mission, the greater the need to perform like a true winner.

Observations and Supportive Dialogue

God wants you to be successful and achieve your missions in life.

Everyone in this group wants you to succeed, too.
All missions from the smallest to world-changing requires work. You
cant just sit in the glow of the beauty of your dream. You have to figure out
what needs to be done and then go get it done.
Listen for commitment. Look for action steps.
Help the speaker understand all the components required to assemble
their big picture.
What hasnt the speaker thought of that they need to prepare for? What
other pieces do they need to put on their goal list?
Who else can you suggest they include in their game plan to help them
succeed?
How else can you help them fill in the blanks for how, when, where,
who, how much?
If you have expertise that you would like to contribute to the speaker,
its best to identify how you can help now. Make an appointment outside of
this session to provide your detailed guidance or assistance instead of
taking up valuable time during the session.
Note how there is a natural desire within the group to help those who
truly want to succeed and have a plan for HOW.

Major Points to Review for Creating Goals and Plans

Missions are the big picture and include the big WHY of
all subsequent actions. Goals are the strategic parts that
make up the picture. They are the path for fulfilling the
WHY.

110 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

You cant achieve a big picture in one shot, but you can
achieve individual parts one at a time. Breaking down a big
vision into its parts is the best way to take appropriate,
productive action on a big-picture project.
Success comes from the continuous achievement of
separate concrete steps, one after another, that take you
closer and closer to the larger goal.
Goals are not easy. They are not accomplished on their
own. There will be difficulties. There will be setbacks and
unexpected problems. This is why you must be absolutely
committed to achieving the goal.
It will take time, effort and courage to perform the actions
necessary to accomplish the goals. However, knowing how
meaningful they will be once achieved, you, the performer,
must commit to make every effort to improve what you do
so that you can achieve the goal as soon and as well as
possible.
Summary

If you have a truly desirable vision, then you need to create a doable
mission by first defining the things you must do to get it done.

Progress Report

You have Clarified a role that is now responsible for

achieving a highly desirable, highly valuable vision. You
know what you want and what part you will play to make it
real.
You have verified that this mission is aligned with your
values and what God wants for you. This has given you the
Conviction that you are going in the right direction and on
the right path.
You have made a Commitment to specific goals that must
be accomplished to achieve your vision. These are your
directions for what to do. Go achieve the goals. As you
work toward achieving each one, you are now living what
you value by taking full responsibility for who you are,
what you want and what you will do to make this happen.

Can you feel the unlimited power and inspiration that comes from
Clarity, Conviction and Commitment? Yes! Its time to put this authentic,
empowered feeling to good use and start taking action to fulfill a life of
valuable service, satisfaction and significance.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 111
Closing Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, help me commit to
achieving my goals and the personal excellence
demanded in the performance of each of my
roles. If not, and if by any chance I am going
in the wrong direction, I pray that you give me
the wisdom and courage to change right now. I
pray that you would give me the conviction that
I cannot achieve my missions without spending
time getting to know you. It is my prayer that
in this process I will grow in the grace and
knowledge of you, Lord Jesus. In your Name, I
pray, Amen.

Personal Prayer For Courage: I cringe, Lord,

at my courage as compared to Yours as You
ventured to and through the cross. And, yet, I
come before You knowing that You work with
me as I work on becoming more courageous in
our walks with you. At least thats what I see as
I view the lives of people in the Bible. Many
fallen heroes... but heroes nonetheless.

Give me Your courage as needed, Lord. Step by

step. Inch by inch. Day by day. For You and
through Your power. And as You do, I ask You
to help me celebrate along the way! I com-
pletely believe in the joy You find in our small-
est victories. So, again, allow me to see and cel-
ebrate as I should in our journey together. In
Your Name I pray, Amen.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 115

Session 9: Performing On Purpose
Opening Prayer: Lord, I know that faith
requires action, and true, godly action defines
the measure of my commitment to You. I ask
You, therefore, to both cause me to act in the
right way and to strengthen me on the inside so
that I take positive, faith-filled steps of action
all along my success journey.

Keep me from foolish actions and inspire me to

take the right actions for all the right reasons:
When I need to, How I need to, and Where I
need to! Amen.
Introduction

To achieve your goals and win your missions, you have to perform on
purpose. This means that you must constantly strive to be the best you can
be the best father, sister, deacon, usher, salesperson, florist, committee
chairman, drugstore owner, student, writer. You must constantly review and
renew your responsibility for your role. This includes consistently searching
for how to take smarter, more productive actions, more frequently, to
improve your results within the role.

Smiles
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission

David A boy who became a giant killer.

ROLE: Warrior.
VALUES: Faith, Courage, Authenticity, Personal Responsibility.
VISION: Unlimited strength from God to fight the good fight.
MISSION: Proceed in faith against lifes Bullies.
This is a story of a giant named Goliath who was defeated by little
David and his slingshot. While all the army of Israel trembles before the
giant Goliath, little David runs over and quickly takes a stone, slings the
stone and strikes Goliath. Goliath falls dead. End of story.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 117

Can you imagine if anyone made a movie about this story today? It
would have to be rated at least PG-13. Most of us would laugh if it was rated
R due to the violence, but you can be captured by the dramatic suspense
created by the gigantic size of the characters. Now the Philistines gathered
their armies for battle... And there came out from the camp of the
Philistines a champion named Goliath... whose height was about ten feet...
He had a helmet of bronze... and he was armed with a coat of mail weighing
about one hundred fifty pounds. His spear head weighed about nineteen
pounds.
So here we have well-armed, big Goliath on one side. And we have
well-armed, scared King Saul on the other. Who will triumph in this contest
between the two powers? But, wait, there is another participant in the
contest. Someone else is moving forward into the battle. And Im not talking
about young David. Not yet. Im talking about God. The God who is
determined not to leave history up to the bloody refuse that remains after
the armies have clashed. A God who is busy prodding little shepherds into
winning the conflicts in their lives.
You see, this story is not meant for those giants in this life who have
perfected their armor to the point that they feel strong, big, and
invulnerable. Instead, it is for those who know what it is like to come up
against lifes bullies and who feel small, powerless, on the bottom of the
heap, exposed to the power wielded by others or circumstances that are
larger, more powerful or more armored than they.
Here is a story that you and I can identify with and draw
encouragement from the actions of one who is small and so obviously
powerless against his odds. Unlike the entire army of Israel and its King
Saul, this small boy, David, does not fearfully hide down in the trenches and
wait for fate to take its course. David took a stand that day to live his values
of faith and courage, his vision of Gods help, and he PERFORMED... ON
PURPOSE.
We all end up little on one day or another. Vulnerability, fright before
the giants, is not limited to the small and young. When your doctor
returns from your annual physical and says, There is a problem with one
of your tests, probably nothing serious, but.... Then you feel little. Or your
boss walks in and says, We are going through some reorganization here at
the company, and you, unfortunately, are not included in the plans for the
future. Then you feel little. Or you must be checked into a nursing home.
Then you feel little. Or your spouse asks you for a divorce. Then you feel
little. Or your child becomes seriously ill. Then you feel little. In such
moments you feel small, vulnerable, with nothing to protect you.

118 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

Now hear the good news. As long as you have put God on your side,
there are surprising twists to every story; the contest is not yet fixed and
finished. Understand this, all of you who feel small from time to time. There
is strength enough, even for the small and the vulnerable, to change your
history if you maintain an unwavering conviction of your values, a
persistent vision of Gods power and the courage to become the warrior who
overcomes fear, uncertainty and doubt by taking bold ACTION toward your
desired success and Gods glory.
1 Sam 17:38-49 Slays Goliath
Introspection: Group Share and Support

As a quick update, report to the group on any action taken

or progress made toward your first goals for each of your
five missions.
Discuss how there is an obvious connection between the
actions you take or dont take and the results you
get. For example:

No action = no result. Action = result. Smarter actions =

greater results.
Discuss how and where you can use the TQ system with the
Time Prism, the 10 Colors and the 100 Factors to
systematically improve your performance one color and one
factor at a time.
Discuss the potential of improving your daily successes
simply by doing more of the recommended smarter action
Factors.
Read out loud the one Factor from your Personal Work
assignment that you selected to focus on to improve your
performance. Explain how this one action would have
helped a previous situation if only it was a "YES" before.
Go on to explain how this one factor will improve the
results you expect to produce while working toward your #1
goal for one of your five missions.
Review each persons choice and commitment to the Color
they need to improve the most to increase their personal
power and achieve their #1 Goal for their five missions.
Discuss how much easier it will be to achieve each of your
missions if you are constantly choosing intentional
excellence keeping all 10 Colors bright and productive
in everything you do.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 119

Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Before you can improve your performance, you have to look carefully
and objectively to see how often and how well you are performing right now.
Your current TQ score does not matter as much as your desire to
improve. What you are going to do next and how you are going to do it are
much more important than how well you performed in the past.
Notice how much easier and less confrontational it is to speak about
your own or someones Weak Organize Color rather than referring directly
to the person as someone who is erratic, inconsistent, haphazard or
careless.
Notice how much easier it is to focus more of my time on seeking
solutions than it is to try to overcome an overwhelming personality fault
such as a bad attitude.
Notice how all the 100 Factors are doable and how useful each would
be to help you be a lot more productive each day.
Notice how there is more hope in being more successful when you
simply focus on doing a short list of specific actions better than before.
Major Points to Review for Performing On Purpose

The most significant factor in achieving your goals and

missions is the quantity and quality of your actions. It is
only by taking action that you generate the personal power
needed to produce the results you want.
You can wish for success. You can want success. You can
pray for success. But in the end, you must be the one to
take the appropriate actions before you can actually
achieve your worldly successes.
There are 10 essential elements that comprise your
Performance Spectrum. We refer to these elements as
your Colors. These Colors encompass your physical Energy
level, your sense of purpose and Mission, your Attitude,
your ability to Set Goals, your ability to Make Plans and
Prioritize your action, your ability to create Synergy with
others, your ability to get and stay Organized, how well you
Optimize your time and how often you take the Actions
necessary to make things happen.
Since each action you take has the potential for a positive
or negative outcome, the probability of achieving a positive
outcome is dependent on how bright each of your 10 Colors
are burning at that point in time.

120 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

With the power to perform up to your expectations, each
action you take turns into a positive result moving you
up toward success.
This process is not the result of random chance or
circumstance. It is a matter of intentional choice
governed by the actions you choose to take or dont take.
Progress Report

You have identified magnificent, faith-based missions for how to live

your best life. You can now see what you have been doing right, what you
have been doing wrong and what you can do different to increase your
personal ability to achieve these missions. This work gives you the reason
and the Courage to take the next step on your To-Do List to achieve your
goals. And then the next step. The courage to make mistakes. The courage
to learn and improve. The courage to leave behind doubts and poor habits
and commit to being the best you can be. The courage to turn up the entire
spectrum of your performance and perform on purpose.

Closing Prayer: Lord, as I seek to creatively

and prayerfully live an on-purpose life, may
my eyes be always turned to you for wisdom
and grace in the process. As I seek to excel,
strengthen me to do so in the power of grateful-
ness and the strength of Spirit-led decisions of
faith. Turn me away from false pride while
empowering me to confidently live in the gifts,
talents and abilities you have entrusted to my
care. In the priceless Name of Jesus I pray,
Amen.

TO BE DONE: Choose actions you can to do to improve your
performance and increase your ability to succeed as you work toward your
valuable goals.
WHY: You are the performer, the one who has answered the call. You
are the one who now must be responsible for taking the required action to
achieve the mission. Therefore, it is critical that you take on this
opportunity and perform your duty at the highest level of excellence
possible to increase the chances that you will succeed in this role and
achieve the mission. This means taking smarter actions more often.
Example of Personal Work: Look at the back cover of
The Power of TQ. Look at a copy of the leaders bookmark.

Personal Prayer For Intentional Excellence:

Dear Precious Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty
God, Truly Awesome and Ever-present Holy
Spirit, Shine on me. Illuminate yourself
through me. I pray that you will give me oppor-
tunities to serve people with intentional excel-
lence. I pray you would continue to show me
where I am weak so that I can use that knowl-
edge to purposely gain the strength I need. Lord
give me the courage to live my life ON purpose,
and Give me Your power to grow in order that I
can perform ON purpose. In your Name I pray,
Amen.

YOUR BOOKMARK.
Fill in your TQ Bookmark according to the instructions in
Chapter 6 of The Power of TQ and The 10 Choices of
Intentional Excellence.

predetermined action immediately. Notice the immediate
boost in performance and results after you have taken the
positive action.
Continue to take an action step on the first goal you set for
each of your five missions and be prepared to report on the
continued progress at your next session. It doesnt matter if
you complete a small task or a big step. The key here is to
intentionally apply all 10 Colors to each step you take.

Let us work as if success depended upon ourselves
alone, but with heartfelt conviction that we are doing
nothing, and God everything.

St Ignatius of Loyola

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 125

Session 10: The Unlimited Power
Of Intentional Excellence Applied
Toward Five Christian Missions
Opening Prayer: Lord, I praise you for helping
me believe and gain confidence that I can now
go out each day and live the life You intended
me to live while I am here on earth. I recognize
you have given me the ability to Succeed and
do it ON purpose. Knowing that you have given
me a Winners Mindset, You have also shown
me that I can dream bigger dreams. I now
know WHY it is important to have High
Expectations and why I need to Execute
Brilliantly. Father, Thank You... I give you all
the Praise and Glory. I love you.... In your pre-
cious Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction

Those who win at what they set out to accomplish are those who are
always seeking ways to improve what they do, so they can improve their
results. They fully understand that every single action they take impacts
their life inside and the world outside. Knowing the value and
importance of what they have to offer, they throw themselves whole-
heartedly into every project, goal and mission with the highest level of skill
they can acquire.
Therefore, it could be said that... Winners achieve Success On Purpose
every day they commit their best effort to those things that they care about
the most. And when combined with their Christian faith, it could also be
said that believers achieve Success On Purpose every day they commit their
best effort to those things that God cares about the most.

Bible Mediation

If MY people will...Humble...Pray...Seek My face and TURN (Repent)

from THEIR Wicked Ways, THEN will I hear from heaven, forgive their
sin, and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
He who covers his sins will not prosper: but whoever confesses and
forsakes them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV)
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be
against us? Romans 8:31 (KJV)
Inspirational Quotations

High expectations demand brilliant execution. E.R. Haas
May your Experiences exceed your Expectations! An old Irish
Prayer
Pity the human being who is not able to connect faith within himself
with the infinite.... He who has faith has... an inward reservoir of courage,
hope, confidence, calmness, and assuring trust that all will come out well
even though to the world it may appear to come out most badly. B. C.
Forbes
The quality of a persons life is in direct proportion to their
commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.

Keller
Share, Support And Celebrate!

Allow each person to present their mission triangles, their

calendars and their TQ Bookmark. Review individual
progress and celebrate the starting point of each persons
future victory.
Example of sharing:
Here is my mission triangle for (Ex: faith/work/marriage.)
This is my role, my vision and my values.
Here are the goals that I will accomplish by these dates in
my 15-year calendar to achieve this mission.
I am committed to doing my best to make this mission a
success.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 127

Whenever I see that I am not performing at my highest and
best level possible, I will make a positive change to
improve. For example:
Whenever I see that I am being: (finish this line by reading
out loud a personally completed bookmark)
As evidence of my commitment, let me tell you the actions
I have already taken as I work toward achieving my very
first goal for one of my five missions.
Finish with confirming, With Gods help, I will succeed at
these missions because they are the right ones for me and
for God. I proceed with confidence knowing that I am living
my life for the right reasons, doing the right things, in the
right way, right now.

RIGHT REASONS: I am clear my values are aligned with God.

RIGHT THING: I am convinced that my visions will glorify God.
RIGHT WAY: I am committed to achieving the goals in my calendar.
RIGHT NOW: I have the inspiration, reason and courage to take action.

Observations and Supportive Dialogue

Do you see any differences in the speaker between now and the first
session?
Is there an increase of clarity in what they want to do with their life?
Can you see a difference in their body language when they talk about
their future?
Can you hear an increased commitment in their voice and their words?
Is there a note of increased enthusiasm, confidence or courage as they
look into their future?
Provide offers of support to each other for their respective missions.
This can be either in the simple form of moral support or offering to take
any number of supportive actions.
Offer Thunderous Applause and Celebration.
Major Points to Review

You can succeed at your most important missions in life

provided you first reach the Clarity and Conviction of what
needs to get done. This is accomplished by a unique
pairing of your personal values and God's will.

128 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING

You must then go on to Commit to the steps that must be
taken to achieve each mission.
Then you must Courageously take action and do your best
to fulfill God's plan for you. This means that whenever you
show up to play your part, your winning performance will
be described as: Energetic, Passionate, Enthusiastic, Self-
directed, Well-planned, Focused, Supportive, Systematic,
Timely and Proactive.
Driven by your desire to achieve a highly compelling goal,
you can intentionally improve every action you take to
increase your personal power to succeed and glorify God.

Summary

You can now see how to achieve: High Expectations and Brilliant
Execution.
You have absolute Clarity of Values, which leads to...
Clarity of Vision, which leads to...
Clarity of Roles, which leads to...
Absolute Conviction, which leads to...
Unconditional Commitment, which leads to...
Spontaneous Courage to take bold action and...
Keep all the Colors of your performance bright...

a life of success on purpose a life devoted to succeeding in the roles and
the missions that will fulfill His purpose.
Follow through and you will become, in every sense of the term, a
Spirit-Led Success with the heightened capacity to LOVE more... to
SERVE better... and to GLORIFY Him in every choice you make and every
action you take.
