SUCCESS ON PURPOSE
About the Title:
A Believers Guide To Achieving Success On Purpose
It has been said that there are two great tragedies in life. The first is not
knowing your purpose... the answer to the big WHAT on Earth Am I Here
For question raised in Pastor Rick Warrens The Purpose Driven Life. The
second, and potentially an even greater tragedy, is KNOWING your
purpose, but not LIVING it every single day you are alive.
As a believer, you know that the spiritual purpose for your life here on
earth is to love and serve God and all of His creation to His honor and glory.
This Believers Guide, and the accompanying resources, have all been
designed to help you quickly move beyond a basic understanding of your
core purpose to a heightened level of performance so that you can
actually ACHIEVE greater SUCCESS in every area of your life: Spiritually,
Personally, and Professionally.
Our objective in developing this measurable, systematic process for
Spirit-Led Success is to give you an exciting new Starting Point for
making the rest of your life the best of your life... starting right now... not
someday later down the line. You might even think of the process you will
be experiencing as Personal Improvement With Divine Guidance!
With The Lord standing right at your side and the Spirit of the Lord
within you as you work through the materials, you will start to put your life
in proper perspective and, maybe for the first time ever, feel a strong sense
of calling, passion and direction that may have been missing in your life.
By the time you have completed Session 10, you will be given two of the
most important drivers of success known to man: Direction and Directions.
Although we believe we were, in no small way, prompted by God to
create this Believer's Guide, The Power of TQ and Success On Purpose, we
would never offer these books as sources of spiritual revelation or religious
guidance. Under no circumstances are the authors trying to take away from
the Power that is found in the God's Holy Word. With that said, we also have
come to know that by taking the Gospel and combining it with The
Believers Guide as a resource ministry tool, we have helped people find an
authentic direction and natural mission for their lives.
We humbly offer these materials as enabling tools for your spiritual
journey tools designed to confirm your true realization of God's purpose
for your life and to guide you as you take the actions necessary to achieve
your most important missions in life for His glory.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE ii
purpose for your life, identify your most important missions missions
that will give you the greatest opportunity to serve... the greatest sense of
meaning and importance... and the greatest feelings of happiness,
satisfaction and significance for a life well lived.
Some of Gods children are born with a powerful sense of mission and
direction and absolutely know what part they are to play in this life.
Some hear Gods voice as if it were an ear-piercing command telling them
exactly what to do and how to do it. Others hear a gentle whisper, a quiet
knowing, or feel a spiritual push in the direction of their dreams.
Even if you feel God has never spoken directly to you, be assured that
He not only has given you the Bible as a handbook for living, but has also
given you several strong hints to help you discern what His design may
entail for your life. He has ALREADY given you:
The most cherished values of your heart.
A combination of gifts and talents right down to your
DNA that make up the unique You.
A unique life context defined by your lifes situations and
the experiences you have gained from those situations
both good and bad.
The means to accomplish the tasks He leads you to perform
because of His Presence, power and ability to provide all
you need to accomplish His will for your life.
What a gift! What a joy to know, with absolute conviction, that you
already have everything you need to achieve success beyond your hopes
and dreams. God has blessed you with both His promise and the means to
fulfill that promise.
This Guide promises to give you the directions you need to turn your
God-given talents into the skills needed to truly WIN what we have dubbed
your Five MOST Important Missions in life five key areas of your life
within which you will identify, define and create new ways to live for Christ
this side of eternity. We have done this to assist you in reducing the entire
world of possibilities down to those that are most meaningful for you to
consider. This is also done as a teaching aid so that as you progress through
this work in the fellowship of other like-minded mission seekers, you can
help one another learn the simple process of creating missions on
demand.
Please take a moment to glance at the image on the front cover. You will
see five circles with a cross in the middle. The symbolism of the cover, and
the objective of this work, is to put Christ at the center of all the missions
you take on especially the following five...
iii A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Your Five Most Important Missions
The 144 pages will captivate you. You wont be able to ignore the
content. You will find it useful, inspirational, and motivational. Acting on
it will glorify God through behavior consonant with Scripture.
I plan to distribute copies of this book.

SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 1
A Short Story...
Id like to start with a short story of how this Believers Guide to Success
On Purpose came to be. The Guide you hold in your hands, and the
fellowship it inspires, is the culmination of 17 years of scientific research,
millions of dollars of development and thousands of conversations with
ministers of every nature. It is my belief that if there has ever been a secular
product that is God inspired, this is it.
Please allow me to explain...
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 3
Finally, he concluded with the comment, Its not good here right now,
but with the help of the Lord, we will persevere.
Do you want to just persevere, or do you want to help your people shift
from where they are now to a whole new Starting Point for success? I
asked. Big difference, you know, between just getting by and living a life
filled to the brim with passion and purpose.
There was a long pause on the other end of the phone; and then he said,
Of course I want my people to fill their lives with great success, but right
now maybe getting by is the best we can hope for, he offered.
Maybe, I said, but if you want to help your people to achieve greater
success, a greater connection to their faith, a more fulfilling family life and
a successful work life, there is something you can do.
You can help each and every person in your church to meditate and
pray for the clarity of knowing what they truly value more than anything
else. Then you can help them crystalize those values into specific visions
for how they can live those values. By doing this, you can then help them
make a commitment to themselves and to others to do what then obviously
needs to be done to achieve those dreams and visions. Finally, you can help
them unleash the natural courage that grows within every person who is
focused on taking action to achieve his most important missions in life.
As the conversation continued, I told him that my business partner and
I had written a book positioned as a sequel to The Purpose Driven Life
called Success On Purpose that explains what I had just suggested in far
greater detail. With newfound hope, he ordered several copies and
promised to share them with each person in his small church.
When I hung up, I knew I had made a difference in this mans life, but
my heart was aching for his ministry and his people. I was overcome by the
sadness, the despair and the tragic loss of hope and belief that is so
prevalent in this world today. Here was a man who desperately wanted to
help his flock, but was out of ideas. No question, I thought, if he takes
Success On Purpose seriously and they do the work he and his
congregration will come out of this stronger and better prepared for lifes
inevitible ups and downs.
Had the demand for a spiritual guide to success stopped there, you
and I probably wouldnt be having this conversation right now. But, it
didnt.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 5
WOW, I thought and asked the million-dollar question, What
ROLE will you personally play to make this happen?
He told me his Empowering Roles will be.
Contributor of spiritual guidance and content for the
seminar.
Leader, of the first study group to complete a 10-session
Believers Guide to Achieving Success On Purpose.
Promoter of the success achieved by the first small group to
the remainder of his church.
Sower of seeds of seminars across the country creating
thousands of additional believers who learn to execute
brilliantly as they live their personal values and achieve
their most important missions in life.
Gregorys passion and conviction to see his company, Success
International Ministries, Inc. become a reality gave him the courage to
reach out to us to develop this Believers Guide. It was also what convinced
me that he was serious about establishing a business/ministry partnership
with which Kent and I would be proud and honored to be involved.
As proof of what a God-loving man can do when he is on a God-given
mission, within three months after Gregorys call, we had produced the very
first draft of this Bible-centric, 10-Session Guide. (Wow talk about
Spirit-Led Success!) Follow along, and you will find the ideas, help, tools,
and answers you have been seeking for how, with Gods help, you can
achieve greater success in your life too.
A Ministry of Vision...
For the record, I am NOT a called and ordained minister, but I do have
a calling. I am a serial entrepreneur having started, bought, sold and
merged 20 different businesses from manufacturing, finance, insurance,
computers, software, Internet publishing, etc. during my first 66 trips
around the sun.
By most accounts, my successes have been far greater than my failures,
so I consider myself a battle-hardened veteran in the business world who
earned his success the old fashioned way: Working Smart while Working
Hard. As you will learn shortly, my calling to serve came a few years ago
and is the reason the big WHY you are now holding this workbook
in your hands. By understanding the story behind the development of these
materials, you will better understand why I believe this process is actually
Gods work... and why I believe He wants you to get after it.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 7
Please understand: this is not hype.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 9
As you will learn in substantial depth inside The Power of TQ, it is your
power to actually produce the Results you want over Time that ultimately
drives your successes, both personally and professionally. The great news
is that this power can be easily measured and improved using our TQ Tests
and systems.
We have made the TQ Test available to you as a part of this package
and recommend you take your test prior to your first session. There is a
separate Certificate that came inside the box containing this Guide with the
instructions for taking your test.
After you complete your TQ Test and receive your custom printed,
personal edition of The Power of TQ, you will SEE exactly what you must
do differently to improve your performance and become a great deal more
successful in everything you do. How specifically?
By Looking at Your Performance
Through The Worlds First Time Prism...
To help you cut through the blur of your performance, we developed the
worlds first Time Prism a simple color-coded tool designed to help you
instantly see how well you are performing at any point in time.
Like holding a prism up to white light, The Time Prism breaks your
performance into 10 color-coded areas of your performance:
1. Your physical and mental ENERGY level...
2. Your sense of MISSION, passion and purpose...
3. Your ATTITUDE (are you a possibility thinker or
an old No it all)...
4. Your ability to SET GOALS in alignment with your Missions...
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 11
Thats when the calls started to pour in each week. I just got my book
and I have a few questions was the typical response. I see where I
STAND, but where do I START to improve my numbers and myself?
Great question! Wish I had the answer, I thought to myself back then.
I especially remember a call from a customer who was a Navy
Chaplain. He was wildly excited about using our materials in his ministry
to help service members returning from the war in the Gulf get back on
track. Pastor Dan, The Go To Man as he called himself, was counseling
about 20 men and women in his church basement, and all but one member
scored substantially less than 40 on their TQ Tests.
Where do I tell them to START to get their numbers up? Dan asked.
Right then, I felt a hand on my shoulder and the words, Tell him to
start with Mission, came upon me. I looked around, and, of course, there
was nobody else in my office but me.
What is that spark that ignites your mind, body and soul and incites
exemplar performance? This question appeared to us as a problem at first,
but one that soon turned into a true blessing of inspiration.
As a matter of fact, we asked and answered this question over and over
again until we had written a whole new book entitled Success On Purpose
and devoted an entire chapter to explaining the scientific causality... why
a highly evolved, virtually unstoppable sense of MISSION is the
STARTING POINT for all success.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 13
A New Starting Point...
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 15
When you do...
These four words hold the key to actually ACHIEVING your five most
important missions in life. Constantly EXPAND your VISION and raise
your EXPECTATIONS. Then, EXECUTE beyond EXPECTATIONS.
Reverand Mays got it right: Low aim is a sin. God Expects more from
us. He didnt put us here on Earth to fritter our life away. He wants us to
LIVE our values... not just talk about them. He wants us to EXPAND our
visions... not play small. He wants us to fully EMPOWER each of our most
important roles... to dream big dreams again... with the full expectation of
realizing them.
Yes, He wants you to become the best YOU possible, to become a
SUCCESS and do it On PURPOSE. Our role in this is to give you Authentic
Direction and the power to fast-track that success.
Which leads me to my last big point... our focus on your Personal
Power. It is vital that you understand the clear distinction between Divine
Power and your Personal Power to produce tangible results.
Spirit-Led Success: The Heightened Capacity to Love, Serve and Glorify...
As you will learn as you progress through The Believers Guide, it is the
connection between your Divine Faith and Purpose combined with your
personal ability to Perform on Purpose that permits us to not only LIVE
in Gods Grace, but to actually deliver on His Divine Commission to
LOVE... SERVE... and GLORIFY Him.
No question, performance requires the POWER to produce tangible
RESULTS over TIME (your Time Quotient or TQ), which is what we are
addressing here. Thus, once you have been CALLED to a Purpose, it is not
enough to just think good thoughts about it, you have to DO something
about it... to perform as if your very life depends on it, because it does.
Yes, this is in fact a life or death issue. Since none of us are getting out
of this life ALIVE, making THIS life a living testament to His Glory and
Service is the entire essence of Performing on Purpose... and becoming a
Spirit-Led Success!
Love, Serve, Glorify: Values or Verbs?
Many Christians see these words as VALUES, and merely pay lip
service to them. We see these words as VERBS ACTION WORDS
that must be put into ACTION in order to actually LIVE them each and
every day we are alive. If we don't, we are alive but we do not LIVE in the
Spirit.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 17
"What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It
has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see
misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows
of men. That is what love looks like."
He also advised, "Pray as though everything depended on
God. Work as though everything depended on you."
~ Saint Augustine
Improving your TQ (Time Quotient) is a very big deal. At ThinkTQ.com
(our testing and training web site) we measure and improve your capacity
to take bold ACTION... to LIVE your VALUES and ACHIEVE your
VISIONS. TQ is a vital discipline based on the US Olympics Training
Progression: MASTERING your FUNdamentals (TQ = 60+)... TRAINING
to train (TQ = 70+)... TRAINING to compete (TQ = 80+)... and ultimately,
TRAINING to WIN (TQ = 90+).
If you want to actually WIN your 5 most important Missions, as Christ
expects of you, you simply must have the POWER to produce positive
RESULTS over TIME. (Thus our formula for achievement: TQ = R/T.)
Power: Energy In Action.
We recognize God's Infinite POWER over Heaven and Earth. When we
use the word power, we use it in the purely physical sense, a measurement
of your personal power to produce Work over Time (P=W/T) or in physics,
Power = Energy over Time (P=E/T.)
Steven R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
observed that Power is the faculty or capacity to act, the strength and
potency to accomplish something. It is the vital energy to make choices and
decisions. It also includes the capacity to overcome deeply embedded
habits and to cultivate higher, more effective ones. I believe that this
definition is correct from both a spiritual and physical perspective.
So, if you are deeply committed to God's Divine PURPOSE for your
life... deeply committed to actually LIVING the Word... deeply committed
to ACHIEVING His plan for your life... then you have no alternative but to
become the best YOU possible by increasing your capacity to LOVE...
your POWER to SERVE and the strength of the ACTIONS you take for His
Glory. Because, as St. Teresa of Avila (1515 - 1582) so beautifully observed,
Christ Has No Body On Earth...
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 19
The truth is, you now have everything you need to succeed. All you
need is a push in the right direction your Authentic Direction and
you will quickly establish traction... gain momentum... then accelerate your
speed... becoming a true force of change in the world.
God provided your gifts and talents. We provide the tools. All you need
to do is accept the challenge. Do this, and you will achieve success beyond
your greatest expectations... a Spirit-Led Success with the heightened
capacity to LOVE more... SERVE better... and Glorify Him in your every
thought and deed. Your Faithful Servant, E. R. Haas
When you get to the end of all the light you know
and its time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen:
either you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.
Edward Teller
In your box you will find all the tools you need to quickly reinvent
your life. Like all tools, ours are designed to help you do your work more
efficiently, more productively and more successfully. They will guide you to
where you can use your gifts and talents to serve the world in the best way
possible. But you have to use them for this process to be of use to you.
Your success in this process, as in life itself, is entirely dependent on
you doing the work. The Personal Work (homework) portion of this course
could end up being the most important work you will ever do. The
couples/small group work thats done together could end up being the most
important work you will ever do with or for someone else.
For each session, there are instructions to read a chapter inside Success
On Purpose and listen to an audio recording of the same chapter. Although
both the written book and the audio version cover the same information, if
you do both as suggested, you will hear valuable ideas you didnt notice
when reading and you will read insightful comments you never heard while
listening.
Both Success On Purpose and The Power of TQ (included in this
package) are intended to be read together with your Bible. We have
included specific verses for you to consider as you go through each session.
You are encouraged to seek out your own Biblical inspiration as you
proceed. Please understand the following regarding the passages listed for
your meditation in the 10 Sessions:
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 23
They are not to be looked at as proof texts for any
particular point or thought made in a session.
They do point out, however, passages the authors felt would
complement your reflective journey before the Lord as
you prayerfully seek His leading throughout the course.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 25
Your Second Assignment of Personal Work
To Be Done Prior to First Session:
READ: Chapter 2 in SOP for proof that a strong sense of Purpose and
Mission is the starting point for all success. Review the Discussion
Questions at the end of each chapter.
READ: Chapter 3 in SOP to understand how filling in Three Variables
can produce a starting point for success and define the purpose for your
performance. Review the Discussion Questions at the end of each chapter.
Identify any questions that are especially meaningful to you and be
prepared to discuss them at the next session.
READ: Meditate on the word and spirit of the Bible verses and quotes
found on the first page of Session 1 for inspiration and guidance on personal
work to be completed here.
LISTEN: SOP CD #3.
VISIT: MyBelieversGuide.com and poke around a bit. Watch the videos
and read the Blog Posts.
We have found that this system requires about 20-30 hours of your
personal time to actually get it. It is very simple and it is very gaited.
It is also very powerful.
In your system you will find 8 CDs. Each is about an hour long, so
think of this as a highly movitational and inspirational 8 hour listening and
learning adventure. The books are written to be fast and easy to read, so the
reading part takes most people 6-8 hours of doing and discovering.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 27
Sessions 2 to 10 Time: one hour and 45 minutes. Progress
Minutes from the Scheduled Start Time:
Minutes 1 to 5 Greeting, reminders, personal prayer
requests and Opening Prayer.
5 to 10 Ask one or two testimonies on their personal
experience from the previous Bible Hero Bookmark.
10 to 15 Todays Bible Hero Connections for the session
and review of the Bible Hero Bookmark.
15 to 20 Introduction/Review of new concept for this
session.
20 to 1:20 Q/A and Review of Personal Work completed.
1:20 to 1:30 Summary Wrap-Up to confirm progress made.
1:30 to 1:35 Introduction to next session concepts.
1:30 to 1:45 Assign Personal work and Demonstration of
work to be done next.

A note about your Bible Heroes Bookmarks...
These bookmarks (see sample on next page) have been created to help
you remember to PERFORM on purpose as you go through the days that
follow... remembering the trials and tribulations each hero faced to achieve
their most important missions.
Your problems are NOT bigger than you are.
Anytime you think they are, take out the current bookmark and think
about what somebody like David, Moses or Joseph faced.
It is as simple as that!

Session 1: Creating Success
On Purpose In My Life
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I know you
have a plan and a strategy for my life. The path to
Victory is already set! I need your help, I ask you
to take away from me any power that might
increase my sinful nature. I pray that you keep my
mind and heart pure every day. All these things I
humbly pray in the name of my most Blessed Lord
Jesus Christ, my Mighty God, and my Ever-present
Holy Spirit upon whom I trust, Amen.
Introduction
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be
against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up
for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who
shall bring a charge against Gods elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is
he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who
is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As
it is written: For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as
sheep for the slaughter. 37 Yet in all these things we are more than
conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:31-37 (NKJV)
Every time you dont follow your inner guidance, you feel a loss of
energy, loss of power, a sense of spiritual deadness. Shakti Gawain
Your prime purpose in life from a performance perspective is to
create and nurture empowering roles to achieve your visions and live your
values. E. R. Haas.
The people of hope are those who believe that God created them for a
purpose and that He will provide for their needs as they seek to fulfill His
purpose in their lives. Pope John Paul II
Mans chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
Westminster Confession of Faith
Bible Heroes: The Essence of Performing On Purpose...
How one loves, serves God, and how one defines success of that
purpose. All dreams, no matter the size or type, are worthy of respect and
celebration. There are no small gifts of service to God or man.
Everyone in your circle is now on your team. Make a commitment to
support each persons desire to be a Winner. Ask Gods help whenever you
attempt to help them. Together you can achieve more. This is a conversation
that requires honesty, compassion, inspiration, insight, confidentiality and
trust.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 33
The benefit of group conversations is in creating multiple options and
insights where an individual might find few or none. You help widen the
lens of possibility by asking questions of each other, not by telling them
what you know to be true. What if? Would you consider? Would you be open
to? If you were successful, what would that look like? How would that feel?
What would you be willing to do to change that area of your life? If you
knew you couldnt fail... If all things were possible... If you had a fresh new
start tomorrow...
Notice how open and willing the speaker is to the idea that their life can
be improved. Can the speaker imagine a more fulfilling future? Are they
open to the range of possibilities that God has for them? Can you hear hope?
Faith? High expectation? Or do you hear resignation? Sad acceptance?
Limited beliefs?
Never hesitate to make a contribution to the conversation. Please do
offer observations, not judgments. Suggestions, not advice. Options, not
commands. Always make sure your contribution is for the benefit of the
other person and not just so you can have your turn to speak and look good.
Major Points to Review on Mission and Purpose
God wants you to love, serve and glorify Him and he wants
you to do this abundently. He wants you to succeed. He
does not want you to fail or live the life of a poor victim.
Your purpose your job as a human being is to take
on empowering roles so that you can achieve visions of
your most important Christian and personal values.
The Starting Point for lasting success is a strong sense of
purpose, mission and direction.
There is a powerful connection between living ones
purpose (High Expectation Brilliant Execution) and
achieving success. This is proven in multiple ways in
Chapter 2, Power of Purpose in SOP.
You can purposely identify and empower a role and vision
for your life that is completely aligned with your Christian
values and personal values. When you do, these will be the
most important roles you will play in your life.
When you live what you value most, you are living a
successful life that will be filled with happiness,
satisfaction and significance every day.
Your Success as defined by your results depends on
the actions you perform. The TQ Test that you took reflects
back to you the current actions you are performing or
34 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
not performing. When you take smarter actions more
frequently, you become more successful and you have a
greater chance of producing the tangible results you want
most in this life.
Summary
Believers live their life on purpose. This means that they take the time
and effort to purposely determine what is most important to them and for
God. They are crystal clear and totally convinced that what they say they
value is the right thing for them personally to value. Starting with this firm
foundation of faith as their inspiration and their strength, they then dedicate
their life to this purpose.
Believers succeed on purpose. This means that they fully understand
they are responsible for the part they must play in the achievement of their
plans, goals and visions. Knowing this, and knowing how desirable their
goals are, they are absolutely committed to being the best they can be as
they strive toward the goals they want to achieve. They commit to
intentional excellence in all that they do so that their performance will be
more than sufficient to win the prize.
There are many, many missions and sub-missions that you are on now
or will attempt to achieve in your life. To limit our focus to those that are
the most important, fill in the three variables for each of the following
triangles in each of the following five categories as they exist for you today.
Note that Mission number one is to love God, two through five are to
serve Him and all five will glorify Him.
If you dont currently have a role in one of these categories, this is a
great opportunity to examine your heart and imagination and create one.
1. My Spiritual Mission is to strengthen my personal
relationship with God, the Creator of all things. Role:
Seeker, Student, Follower, Servant, Practitioner, Disciple,
Teacher, Leader.
2. My Personal Growth Mission is to become the best I can
be in His service and for His Glory. Role: Student,
Hobbyist, Traveler, Reader, Musician, Athlete, Body
Builder, Communicator, Networker, Health Enthusiast.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 37
3. My Personal Relationship Mission is to love and contribute
to those closest to me. Role: Husband, Wife, Father,
Mother, Son, Daughter, Brother, Sister, Friend, Business
Partner.
4. My Church/Community Mission is to make a positive
impact on the world I live in. Role: Community Volunteer,

Session 2: Mission Triangles A
Tool To Help Answer Lifes
Biggest Questions
Opening prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, Today I pray that you
will begin to bring Clarity for what you want in
my life. Lord, give me Clarity of my values,
Clarity to each of my roles and Clarity of the
Visions You have for me. In Your Precious
Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction
You are living mission triangles all the time. Everyone is. All the time.
You have just never thought of it in this way. The idea of vision, values and
roles is not new. You always have some amount of value in every role you
play, some amount of value in doing what you do and some general picture
or vision of what youre trying to accomplish.
Once you know these three variables are the driving forces in your
performance, the key is to purposely choose to improve the quality of
these three variables, and you will instantly transform the quality of your
life. Do this with intentional clarity and deep conviction, and you will not
only know what you should be doing with your life, you will get a chance to
live it every day.
The mission triangle is a tool you can use to assemble these three
variables into a specific life focus. Once you are clear in regard to your
roles, vision and values, you will have authentic direction. You will gain the
conviction that what you want to do is absolutely the right thing for you to
do. You will have the confidence that you are going in the right directions
and commit to what needs to get done. You will have the courage to stay on
the right path and live a life worthy of your best effort.
The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many
people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car... a
teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they
get little. Ben Sweetland
I would give all the wealth of the world, and all the deeds of all the
heroes, for one true vision. Henry David Thoreau
God does not ask your ability or inability. He asks only your
availability. Mary Kay Ash
God provides the wind, but man must raise the sails. St Augustine
Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you
nothing that you have received only what you have given: a full heart
enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage. St Francis of
Assisi
Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but
yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christs compassion for the world
is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;
and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now. St Teresa of
Avila
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 43
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 45
Notice how excited the speaker is in regard to the size and desirability
of the vision. Im just curious, what would make this vision even more
desirable? Bigger? More specific? More real-world details? More valu-
able? How would your vision change if you thought you could do
anything?
Observe how committed the speaker appears to be to the role. Excited?
Sincere? Determined? How would your mission change if you felt like you
had more personal power to get things done? What role would you take on
then? Which, if any, is the limiting leg from getting you to commit fully to
this mission?
How would your life change if any one of your variables changed?
Major Points to Review on the Assembly of Mission Triangles
God created you for the purpose of serving him and serving
others. Given that this is Gods desire and directive for you,
it is now your job to accept and define what that mission of
service is and what you will do to make sure you succeed
at it.
Your participation in this partnership starts by creating and
nurturing Roles that give you the opportunity and
responsibility of achieving the highest visions of what can
be accomplished. This is HOW you will get to live your
most important Christian and personal values.
Triangulating missions is a process for defining this calling
and answering these questions of what you are supposed to
be doing with your life.
Once you have defined your Values, Vision, and Roles of a
mission, you have created strong and direct connections
between what you Expect in life the positive Emotions
you want to feel and the valuable Experiences that will
add up to a life of true service, satisfaction and
significance.
The size and quality of your missions are determined by the
size and quality of the variables. The shortest leg, or the
least defined variable, limits the potential size and success
of the mission.
Summary
Now that you have observed and experienced the life-changing insight
that can be gained with this process, the next step is to carefully...
purposely... prayerfully clarify each individual variable of the triangle.
With a general background in how to use this tool, you are now about
to create the most meaningful missions in your life and get to the right
starting point for succeeding in each one.
To begin your personal process, we will start with.... Values. Your
Personal Work will help you achieve the first characteristic of a Winners
Mindset Clarity. Do this right, and it will lead to absolute conviction that
the missions you create will be the right ones for you. When done, you will
have the understanding and belief that you are on the right path for you
and for God.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 47
TO BE DONE: Create a list of your Top 10 Values as described in
Chapter 6.
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: Turn to page 247 to 249 in SOP to
see a top 10 list filled out with value, meaning, example, emotions.
Additionally, the group leader may choose to show their own completed list
and describe why each word is on their list and how they arrived at their
choices.
WHY? Because until you know whats most important to you, you are
spending the only life you have on things that really dont matter. However,
you are naturally the most productive when youre connected to the infinite
power generated from working from the heart, investing the only life you
have in what you care about the most. This is what drives winners in this
world to be their very best.
Your values are the key players and the deciding factors for everything
youve done in your life up to this point. They are the source of your dreams
and visions, the reason for your roles.
Your values determine if something you accomplish feels like it is
significant or not. It is incredibly useful to identify your current personal
values so that you can focus on them more frequently if you like them, or
change them if you don't. If your successful results contribute to something
you value, then you will feel they are significant. If they dont, it wont
matter how much success you achieve. Ultimately, they wont produce any
long-term satisfaction or happiness.
Complete the Values exercises found in Chapter 6. Follow along and fill
in the blanks on the pages inside of this chapter. This will be your first
attempt. The next session will give you a chance to further review and
improve or replace any of your values on this first list. Here are some ideas
to understand the idea of values as used in Success On Purpose:
Values are things that you love and want more of in your
life.
For the purpose of this process, do not list personal
characteristics such as honesty, courageousness or
intelligence. A personal characteristic is how one
behavesit is an adjective that describes who you are
while you are performing. Honesty, for example, is very
important, but it is not the end, the reward or the reason
for our desire to perform. Rarely do you go looking for
opportunities where you can be honest. Instead, you are
honest in all that you do.
A value is something that gives your life meaning: Faith,
love, service, family, adventure, intellectual challenge.
It answers the why you would do something. I love
driving into the mountains because I value nature, beauty
and tranquility.
It is what you want to give to the world. Contribution.
Compassionate conversation. Beautiful music.
Architectural masterpiece. Childrens self-esteem.
Education. Scientific discovery.
It is what you want to experience as a result of doing
something. Peace. Accomplishment. Pride. Love.
Intellectual Challenge. Freedom.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 49
This list of values will be a work in progress so it does not have to be
perfect, but it does need to be all filled in. As you consider other options
that may be more valuable to you, you can replace the least valuable of this
10 with your newly identified Top 10 Values.
Write in things that you are striving for at this point in your life, even if
you know in your heart that these are not the most important values in the
long term. It is extremely helpful to identify and acknowledge where you are
spending your time now and what is driving your current actions. In the
next session, you can purposely choose to keep or change these values from
your list.
Once completed, ask yourself if your top 10 are really your
values or if they are ones that you inherited from your
parents, your culture or friends. Are they truly meaningful
and important to you or do you need to get new values? For
example: If you didnt worry about any other persons
approval, would all of these values still stay on your list?
Review commonly accepted Christian values and observe
This list of values will be a work in progress so it does not
have to be perfect, but it does need to be all filled in. As
you consider other options that may be more valuable to
you, you can replace the least valuable of this 10 with your
newly identified Top 10 Values.
Your values determine your choices, decisions and
subsequent actions. Come to the next session prepared to
defend the life you are living now or going to live by
explaining your choice of values.

Session 3: Discovering Your
Current Values
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, Today I pray that you
will show me how my current values have
indeed dictated my decisions and actions. I
pray for the courage to be truly authentic and
transparent in order that I can hear what you
have for me and how I can help others. Lord,
show me ways that I can be faithful and live
my highest values when I am among my circle
of friends and family. In your Holy Name I
pray, Amen.
Introduction
You are where you are and do what you do because of the things you
value or dont value. Tragically, until you are clear on what you value and
what you dont, you will spend a large portion of life on things that really
dont give you any true happiness, satisfaction or significance. This means
you will end up trading your life for things that are nice to have, but pale in
comparison to what is truly valued.
Think of your top 10 personal values at the foundation for your success
in life. Once you have a clear understanding of what is driving your
performance from the foundation up, you will have a great deal of clarity
and momentum in your life. You will have found the target the Authentic
You.
Bible Meditation
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust
doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Note: You may want to break into smaller groups of no more than five
people to allow for more individual participation in the group setting for this
portion of the session.
Share personal lists of Top 10 Values. Have each
participant read their listed values. Discuss why each word
is on the list. Share what the word means to him or her and
the emotions that it produces. Give an example of where
that value could show up in their daily life.
Discuss how the participant chose this value. Is it a
conscious choice or was it simply acquired over time as a
result of an outside influence of parents, family or culture?
If so, not right or wrong, but have they purposely
committed to this value as one of their own?
Discuss if the value stated really is a true, personal value
or are these wannabe values that would be nice to have?
Are they listed because they are deemed to be the correct
ones that good, honorable or successful people should
have? Just how desirable is each value to you?
Compare values listed to current life lived. Is the
participant purposely living this value now, and if so, how
and where? Frequently enough? If not, why not? Is it not
really a top value or a wrong use of their time? Example: I
value family, but I work on my hobby every spare hour of
my day.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 55
Discuss similarities and differences between different
participants lists. Note how the values determine the
corresponding similar or different activities that each
performs in the world.
Discuss if anyone has succeeded in achieving a desired
goal and then found it lacking where it did not really
pay off in terms of happiness, meaning or significance that
was expected?
Discuss examples where strong values are being lived
frequently and how that feels.
Discuss if your list of values are in alignment or in
conflict with Christian values.
Observations and Supportive Dialogue
We are all Gods children, and there is no one single correct list. Given
our God-given uniqueness, we are all here to discover and fulfill our own
unique values and interests and to answer separate callings.
Listening and questioning requires respect and an intention to serve
the other person in a way that brings out the best in the speaker. This
process deserves support, honesty, respect, appreciation and a desire to
help.
Without being confrontational in any way, the benefit and duty of the
group is to truly test the speakers resolve to their list. Its one thing to write
down a casual list of values. Its another to defend it to the group. Its even
more difficult to live it as a testament to what you truly believe. Better to be
tested now by your group than to fool yourself for years to come or be fooled
by the rest of the world. There are few things more important than getting
this list right since it will show you how to live your best, most meaningful
life.
Listen for clarity. How precise can the speaker define what he or she
truly wants?
Listen for conviction how desirable are these values to this speaker?
A great test is to listen to the person read the positive emotions that are
associated with each value. If they are enthused and energized, this is a
personally desirable value. If they are just simply sincere and are not
energized or enthused by reading the list, then maybe its not a desirable
value.
Notice the benefit of describing the unique meaning the speaker has for
each value word. It may not be the same meaning you would give to the
word. The exact word choice is less important than the precise meaning that
the speaker gives to the word.
56 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Notice how easy it is for the speaker to arrive at examples of where the
value could show up in their actions. If difficult to do, then it may be helpful
to clarify the word or it may not really be a true value.
How well do these values align with your current relationships? How
many of these values are produced inside of your job, career or work? How
many of them are inside your current goals?
If you lived a life completely full of these values, would you say that
your life was a success?
Major Points to Review on Discovering Your Value
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 57
Summary
If you want to make your life more meaningful, you start by looking at
what is motivating you now. You can objectively observe which of your
current motivational drivers are delivering a sense of fulfillment, meaning
and purpose and which ones are not. You can then choose to increase your
time and effort on those that do and eliminate the ones that dont. Whenever
you purposely change the target for what you want to accomplish, achieve
or experience, your life from that moment on is instantly transformed.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 59
Improve The List
Add a new value to the list that you think would improve
the quality or meaning of life right now. Consider inserting
any Christian values that are not currently on the list but
which you are absolutely sure are ones you want to live.
When you become crystal clear and convinced that a new
value is needed to be a part of your life and purposely act
on this new value, your entire life will shift dramatically.
Dont add a value word to your list unless you are
absolutely committed to making it one of your own with a
strong, heartfelt desire to acquire this value and
incorporate it into the true inner core of who you are, and
what you do, from this point on.
Prioritize The List
HINT: If one value creates the opportunity for the second, the second is
more valuable. Example: Wealth and Freedom. If the reason you want
wealth is that it will give you the freedom to do what you want, you value
freedom over wealth. If you value wealth because it gives you the time and
resources to be of service to others, then you value service over wealth. If
you value education because with education you can learn how to teach
people how to grow more food, then you value contributing to people over
education because education is the means that allows you to contribute.
Once completed, review the entire list and test yourself in how well you
have now defined who you are going to be and how you are going to live your
life from now on.
Verify The List
Can you verify that your final list is aligned and not in
conflict with any moral, ethical, spiritual or religious
principles? Are they good and right and worthy of
defining who you are and where you will spend your time
in exchange for living the only life you have?

Session 4: Declaring Your Ideal
Values
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I pray you will give
me clarity as to what I really need to value
most. I realize I have to have non-negotiable
values in my life that are totally aligned with
you. Help me to know what those are that I
would be courageous and willing to take a pub-
lic stand for You and not be ashamed. I pray
that you will make these values so important to
me that I am willing to die for them. I want my
values to be so clear, and so right, that it con-
trols every action and decision that I make. In
your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction
You get to choose what you want to declare as most important and
valuable in your life. If something you thought you valued doesnt give you
a genuine sense of satisfaction and significance, change it to another value
that will. After being absolutely clear what that is, you can then focus your
life in a conscious, dedicated effort to live and experience those positive
values every day. By doing this, you will make each day a successful day
on purpose.
Bible Meditation
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-
control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness,
mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these
Solomon A son of King David who became the King who built the
Temple.
ROLE: Project Developer.
VALUES: Faith, Wisdom, Family, Education, Excellence.
VISION: Fulfill fathers dream to build a permanent Temple for God.
MISSION: Construct a permanent Temple as the resting place for the
Ark of the Covenant.
Solomon was known for being the wisest man in history except for
Jesus. Furthermore, he also became the wealthiest man in history. How did
this happen? It happened because Solomon was very clear what he valued
in his role as leader of Gods people. The Lord had appeared to Solomon in
a dream, and God said, Ask for whatever you want me to give you.
Solomon gave God an answer and his answer came from what he valued the
most in his life. He said, So, give your servant a discerning heart to govern
your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. In other words,
he asked God to give him wisdom. God was so pleased with his answer
that God also blessed him with great wealth and honor.
King David, Solomons father, had consolidated his power and built a
permanent residence for himself, but the lack of a shrine of Yahweh seemed
unenviable to him. He said, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the Ark of God
dwelleth within curtains. Because his hands were stained with the blood
of his enemies, David was precluded from building a temple to the Lord,
but he collected materials, gathered treasure and purchased a site for the
construction. Prior to his fathers death, Solomon was aware of his fathers
dream and the preparations performed by his father for his dream of a
temple for the Ark of the Covenant.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 67
Read examples of top five emotions people will experience
as a result of living their Top 10 Values. Could life really
be that good?
Discuss what percent of your time is spent on the top
values on your list on a normal day? Over a week, month or
year? Is it enough? If not now... when?
You can live a more meaningful life by purposely putting
more meaning in your life. Discuss options and actions you
could take to cause your list to show up more frequently in
your life.
Observations and Supportive Dialogue
The time you spend, the actions you take and the results
you produce every day are living proof of what is most
important to you right now.
Once you carefully and purposely create a list of values,
they become your best reference of where to turn to make
the right decisions for you.
If you are not completely satisfied with the meaning and
importance of your life, you can change your list.
If you are happy with your values, but not living them, you
can change your life to focus more of your time on what you
value most.
Summary
A list of values points you in the right general direction for where and
how to live your most meaningful and significant life.
Progress Report:
You have made great progress! You have created a short list of the most
valuable targets for your life. Through the help of God, thoughtful prayer
and soul-full meditation, you have purposely identified where you should
look to fulfill God's plan for you. Every effort put forth in that direction is
all by itself a success in life, because you are trading your precious
time for something you truly love.

Session 5: Creating a Vision
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus, Great
and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and Ever-present
Holy Spirit, Give me a clear mind and an open
heart to see you and know what you want for me.
Give me a clear view so that I can see the visions
you have for me. I pray that you give me the power
to live my life with excellence in every area of my
life. Father, I truly want to live my life with pas-
sion and purpose as a winner. In your love and in
your grace, may I always stand secure in knowing
you love me and you gave your life for me. All
these things I humbly pray in your name, Amen.
Introduction
To win any mission, you need to first create highly compelling visions
for what you want to accomplish, experience or contribute. Visions are very
specific outcomes, events or experiences you want to produce. When
projected into your future, they provide the answer for what you will do
to live your best life possible. They can range from being weak and fuzzy,
poorly defined and unrewarding to being crystal clear, inspiring and
strongly compelling. The more valuable and beautiful the vision, the greater
will be your desire to do your best in a passionate pursuit of this prize and
the more successful you will become.
Bible Meditation
Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who
reads it. Habakkuk 2:2 (NKJV)
I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.

Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the
law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

a tree of life. Proverbs 12 (NKJV)

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 75
Regardless of his age or situation, Joseph never lost sight of the
importance of doing the right thing as determined by his faith in God. He
consistently demonstrated his ability to take responsibility for his actions and
an unselfish desire to help and serve other people.
Joseph was blessed by a gift from God to interpret Dreams. One day the
Pharaoh began to dream dreams and asked for help on what they meant.
Josephs name was given to the King as one who could help. When asked if he
could, Joseph told the Pharaoh that he could not interpret the dream; however,
his God could (Joseph gave God the glory.) God used Joseph to interprete the
Kings dreams to mean they would have seven good years of harvest and then
seven years of famine.
Ultimately, Joseph found favor with the King and was given the ROLE (see
above) of Prime Minster to prepare for the coming famine. They created a
VISION (see above) to save the nation from starvation. Joseph focused on the
duties of a project manager whose MISSION and responsibility was to collect
and store a surplus of food from seven good years, so it would be available for
the seven years of famine that followed.
Regardless of any role he was in prisoner, prophet or prime minister
Joseph lived his life as a clear testament to his faith, to service, purity,
family and leadership. Given his conviction, Joseph had the courage to take
on both the opportunity and the responsibility of each role with the dedication
of being and doing his absolute best at each one.
Joseph ACHIEVED Success... Because he Performed ON Purpose
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 77
Values tell you what you want. Visions tell you where you
will find it in the physical world.
To live a life of true and meaningful service a life of
happiness, satisfaction and significance you must first
describe the details of what an ideal life would be
before you can start to produce it.
Choosing to achieve a value-justified vision gives you
meaning, importance and direction for how to live your
best life now.
Visions that are directly linked to your most heartfelt, core
personal values generate the greatest source of passion
and power within you driving you to be a success.
Imagining your best life should never be limited by how it
will get done. The how will either be determined or
provided and the passion and desire will produce the
commitment to be the best you can be to make it happen.
Visions and Goals are not the same. For example: A
Vision is the picture on the outside cover of a jigsaw
puzzle. Goals are the commitments you make to assemble
each of the pieces of the puzzle that will produce the
picture on the cover. Goals will come later in Session 8.
Summary
Visions are expressions of our greatest dreams and desires. When they
are linked to our true values, they are a source of great inspiration and
hope. They point us in the direction for where we should spend our time
and become the targets for our greatest contributions and life experiences.
Progress Report
You have now created a list of inspirational and rewarding visions and
dreams of what could be possible. Just think if these visions were already
in your life now! You have made major progress in defining your best life.
It is far easier to succeed at producing something when you have a picture
of what you want it to look like before you start!
But you can't stop here or they will remain nothing but nice thoughts
and wishes. You must continue on and agree that you are the one who is
called to take on the role and the responsibility for making these visions
real.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 79
You should never take this lightly. By taking on a role you are saying
Yes, I will be the one to make this happen. When you do, it becomes your
job and responsibility to put forth your best effort to live up to the challenge
of actually delivering on these grand visions. By taking on a role, you stop
being a victim of circumstances and take control of your actions and the
results you produce.
EXAMPLE OF PERSONAL WORK: Review Roles listed in SOP on page

completed form(s).

Session 6: Identifying and
clarifying your Roles
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I come to you asking
for clarity for each of the roles that I am cur-
rently playing as well as the roles that I choose
to create in the future to accomplish the mis-
sions that you have for me. Lord, I know I must
be passionate about the activities, the responsi-
bilities and the opportunities that are a part of
these roles. Increase my faith that I would have
higher expectations and the wisdom to execute
brilliantly. In your Holy Name I pray, Amen.
Introduction
To win your missions and make your dreams come true, you must take
on a role that gives you both the opportunity and the responsibility to make
your valuable visions a success in the real world. This is why, from a
performance perspective, your purpose in life is to create and empower
roles where you can live your values and achieve your visions.
Choosing a role, clarifying it carefully, and committing everything you
have to this role is the most powerful thing you can do to achieve the
success you want. Once you accept the role, it then becomes your duty to
perform this role with the highest level of skill and persistence possible to
achieve the vision and make it real.
Bible Meditation
In the last analysis, the individual person is responsible for living his
own life and for finding himself. If he persists in shifting his responsibility
to somebody else, he fails to find out the meaning of his own existence.
Thomas Merton
Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and
learn again to exercise his will his personal responsibility. Albert
Schweitzer
I am learning that if I just go on accepting the framework for life that
others have given me, if I fail to make my own choices, the reason for my
life will be missing. I will be unable to recognize that which I have the
power to change. Liv Ullmann

He didnt trust me so much. Mother Teresa

something one finds; it is something one creates. Thomas Szasz
Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared
believe that something inside them was superior to circumstance.

An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission
Mary A woman who was given the responsibility of raising the Son
of God.
ROLE: Mother, a blessed servant of the Most High.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 85
VALUES: Faith, Family, Service, Education, Strength, Perseverance,
Courage.
VISION: God Almighty smiling; His Son embraced in a Moms human
Love.
MISSION: Raise the Fathers Son in love and joy.
Mary was a young woman who an angel described as One who found
favor with God. We know little about her, but what we do know is
significant. She was a follower of God; and as a follower, God chose her for
a very special and, yet very familiar role to the women of the world.
He chose her to be a mom. Nothing more; yet, certainly nothing less.
While it is not said what responsibilities were given to her as a mom,
we can only assume that she was to love Jesus, raise Him according to the
Jewish teachings of the day, and continue to be a servant in her own right,
which from what we know of her in the Bible, she did very successfully.
Here was a woman who was given the responsibility to mother, just
like all other mothers who had gone before her. Reflecting on the person of
Mary including Mary in the silent years of Jesus cannot we
envision Mary teaching Jesus to appreciate familiar sights from the
Galilean hills: the sower of crops, the shepherds and their sheep, vineyards
and fig trees?
And can we not see Mary placing a small measure of yeast into flour
before baking and watching it rise only to share with Jesus her thoughts
regarding the remarkable ways the kingdom of God touches all things? May
we not see her comfortably with Joseph, Jesus, and her other
children, sharing, trusting and serving all in a loving home environment?
One can hardly guess what Mary must have felt during those tragic
days when they arrested and crucified her Son. Imagine what she thought
as she stood on the road as Jesus passed by carrying his cross. When all his
disciples fled, she remained with him. Steadfast to her personal mission, yet
helpless to do anything else, she watched her dying Son and offered her
love. When he died, they took him down from the cross and placed him in
her arms. She held him gently, her child of long ago.
Mary was, by her own description... A servant of the Lord. A consistent,
faithful servant. And as such, we identify her as one who successfully
performed her mission in life as joyful as it was at times and as heart-
breakingly difficult as it must have been at other times. You might say that
Mary demonstrated an on purpose success. Her values were evident. She
was clear about her roles as a mom and wife. Her commitment was absolute
and her courage to live out her commitment to the Lord left an imprint not
Listen for ownership and personal responsibility for each role. How
committed is the speaker to the role? Is the role appropriate for the
speaker given his/her skills, background, experience, talents, resources
and time availability? If not, how committed are they to gaining what
they need so that they can succeed?
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 87
How much belief does the speaker have that he/she can be
successful? What, if anything, is holding the speaker back from
believing or being more enthusiastic about this role?
What size and type of vision does the speaker have for each role?
Inspiring? Minimally acceptable?
What does the speaker need to be, to do or get to improve his/her
chances of succeeding in this role?
Discuss what the role will purposely not include what
responsibilities or activities will the speaker purposely not take on, but
rather share or delegate to someone else?
Youve done great work! You now have a tremendous amount of Clarity.
You can now SEE your true values, SEE compelling visions and SEE the
roles that you are in now and the ones you want to take on in the immediate
future. Now all you have to do is insert these clearly defined variables into
their own mission triangle to arrive at the right starting point for a life of
happiness, meaning and service.

Personal Prayer For Conviction: Dear Precious
Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty God, Truly
Awesome and Ever-present Holy Spirit, it is my
prayer that you help me to know my natural
mission and authentic direction for each and
every mission for my life. Help me to articulate
that mission. Father, I pray for a new lease on
life, and I am completely open to a new life
calling. Its in You that I Trust, Amen.

Session 7: My Purpose My life
Defining My Missions
Opening Prayer: Dear Precious Lord Jesus,
Great and Mighty God, Truly Awesome and
Ever-present Holy Spirit, I have come to know
that you have created me with a purpose. I
know that You are worthy to be worshiped, and
I desire to have fellowship with You. I also
believe that you may have additional purposes
or missions that you want me to accomplish. I
am trusting that by aligning my visions, values
and roles, I will discover my natural missions
to create a life that will be a starting point that
will bring me happiness, satisfaction, signifi-
cance and a peace of mind. For this Lord, I will
surrender my all to You, and I will give you the
praise and glory. In your precious name, Amen.
Introduction
By filling in the three variables of Values, Vision and Roles, you arrive
at crystal clear missions that have significant meaning for you. Convinced
that these missions are the right ones, you feel empowered to move ahead
and start living your life with the passion and confidence that you are on the
right path.
Your life will become a Success on Purpose when you dedicate it to
achieving these missions of great importance and value to you, your family,
your whole community and, most importantly, to God. By performing these
missions to the best of your ability, you will live a life of purpose and
passion as you achieve daily and long-term successes filled with meaning
and significance.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 95
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission
Moses A man who became the leader of the Israelites and freed
them from slavery in Egypt.
ROLE: Head Coach, Freedom Fighter.
VALUES: Faith, Freedom, Family, Courage, Humility, Teamwork,
Organization.
VISION: The Israelites nation is free from bondage and living in the
land of milk and honey.
MISSION: Lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and to the
Promised land.
Moses is honored as a freedom hero by people of all faiths. How curious
that God would find a man with a speech impediment to speak on behalf of
Him. Moses is a great example of someone who took on a role because it
was the right thing to do and not because he thought it would be something
that would help him personally get ahead. He stuttered. He lost his temper.
Yet, he freed an entire nation.
It has been said that God works in mysterious ways, but the important
thing to remember is God works.
Consider this: Do you think Moses had the entire Exodus planned out
in advance? Do you think that he had all the answers for this journey
resolved before he took on the mission of moving his people from one
country to another? Do you think that he knew in absolute certainty how he
was going to feed this entire host of people who were about to set out on
foot? Would there be water when they needed it? How about firewood for
cooking? Feed for the livestock?
No doubt, Moses would have asked himself these complex logistical
questions before he committed to the journey and commanded his people
to take their first step. It is also certain that he did not have all the answers
when he said, Lets go now. You see, Moses believed in God and Gods
vision for his people. He would have never started if he knew that God
wasnt going to be with him. Moses was a man capable of high expectations
high expectations for himself, his people and, most of all, of God. He was
also a man of action that believed that they would find a way or be given a
way as long as they took the initial actions as instructed by God.
From that point, Moses had to wake up every morning with a job to do,
and he had to perform it brilliantly. He had to keep his eyes on the big
vision as he made each day of leading his people one of survival and of
success. You know that Moses asked God to help him with achieving this
great vision. You can also bet he asked more than once a day.
96 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
Now, do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs?
Or that He wont help you on your missions? Our God is an Awesome God!
When you have clarity of your values and are confident they are aligned
with what God wants for you, you will have the conviction to proceed
even when you dont know everything down to the smallest detail of how you
are going to accomplish your mission. You commit to what you can see you
can do, and you pray that you will discover or be given the instructions for
what to do next. This gives you the courage to take the first step and the next
down your road. And when you step out, know that you are walking in faith
with others, just like Moses, as you achieve the most important missions in
your life.
Hebrews 11:27-29 By Faith Moses left.
Exodus 7:6 He Obeyed.

the My Purpose My Life Form as the picture of

Observations and Supportive Dialogue
Is the stated mission clear or still a little too ambiguous? Does the
presentation of the mission by the speaker lead directly to the next logical
step of figuring out how the mission will be accomplished? Is the mission
so clearly stated that you could hand it over to a stranger to achieve with no
further instructions and hope to get back the results you expected?
Is the stated role directly responsible for achieving the vision? They
must. If not, should the speaker further redefine the job description that is
the role or change the specification of the target that is the vision?
Should the role be further subcategorized to better focus in on the
responsibilities and activities that will be performed? Example of a Role:
Father? Or, given the vision and values, would it be better to be a Mentor,
Teacher, Provider, Friend, Role Model, Comforter, Protector, or...?
Is the vision crystal clear to everyone? Succinctly defined? Directly
connected to the stated values?
What about the size of each of the variables? Are they in the right
proportion to each other? Could they be increased? Should they be
increased? Which variable is holding back the big dream and the big
possibility right now?
How realistic is the mission given the speakers conviction?
Dedication? Skills? Experience? Resources? Time availability? Do
remember that conviction has the power to trump all other deficiencies.
Can you tell how accomplishing this vision will make the speaker feel?
Enthused? Excited? Hopeful? Challenged? Energized? Can you hear and
see any conflict with the speakers other missions or Gods plan for the
speaker in the accomplishment of this mission?
If the speaker gives their mission a desirability score of less than eight,
which leg needs to be changed to increase the desirability or believability
of the mission? Or should they give this one up and create a new, more
desirable use of their time and energy?
Keep conversations focused on filling in the blanks of Values, Vision
and Roles. There are many ways to arrive at defining a mission. This
conversation should stay focused on the three variables when looking for a
solution.
98 A BELIEVERS GUIDE TO ACHIEVING
During this session, do not attempt to solve a persons mission by
coming up with ways to achieve the vision beyond simply clarifying what
the mission is. It is too early to get down to details or techniques that should
be employed. This session is still only to confirm that this is the right
mission for the speaker to take on. You will get a chance to help figure out
the details for what needs to be done to achieve the mission in the next
session. You can also arrange for an appointed time with the speaker
outside of the session to help contribute to the speakers success on their
mission.
When completed correctly, the stated mission is obvious to everyone in
the group. There is no ambiguity. No disconnect between variables. There
is an obvious expectation for what will be done and strong desire to go
achieve the mission. This is usually accompanied by an equally strong
desire from the group for the participant to achieve the mission.
SUCCESS ON PURPOSE 99
Summary

your most heartfelt visions. When you do, every day will be a living
testament to what you value most.

Inspirational Quotations
Joshua A man who succeeded Moses, and led the Israelites into
Canaan.
ROLE: Head Coach.
VALUES: Faith, Trust, Courage, Authenticity, Teamwork, Strategic
Planning.
VISION: The Ark of the Covenant and his people are living in the land
of milk and honey.
MISSION: Lead Gods people and the Ark of the Covenant safely into
the Promised Land.
When Moses died, God chose Joshua to lead Israel. Joshua wasnt a
man who bragged about what he did or what he would do. The focus of this
story is not about Joshua leading his people into Canaan to fight great
battles to earn the land that was promised to them. This is about a
commitment to a Vision by a man who accepted the role of leader, the one
responsible for taking the Ark of the Covenant and Gods people safely over
to the Promised Land.
When God chose Joshua to lead Israel, he gave him a great promise:
As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. The fact was that Joshua was
to lead a group of people who had been on a losing streak for 40 years. It
seems that Joshua may have been somewhat fearful about being chosen to
lead the people, because God told him to Be of good courage. Again He
told Joshua, Only be thou strong and very courageous. And just to make
sure he didnt miss the point, God repeated, Be strong and of a good
courage.
God understood that Joshua had the faith and the trust to take on this
important role. Joshua was prepared to perform the duties God had given
him because he was convinced that his desire for his team of people moving
into the Promised Land was also Gods Vision for His chosen people.
It is important for us to trust God when we are asked to do something
new. If we trust in our own strength, we are sure to fail. Because Joshua
trusted God, he took on this leadership role and focused on achieving its
highly desirable Vision. Joshuas conviction in the big Vision of Gods
promise gave him the courage to perform his work in spite of all the fears
they were facing. He turned to the people and began to instruct them. They
responded by accepting his leadership, and then he added a word of
encouragement to them, Only be strong and of a good courage.
Review each persons game plan for how they are going to
go from mission, to goals, to plans, to a calendar. Continue
to clarify and improve participants plans. This is a
problem-solving session to help determine what must get
done for each mission to be successful. What are all the
pieces that must be put in place? Who, what, when, how,
where...?
Describe one entire series of milestones that you have
identified as goals you must achieve to reach the finish line
of one of your missions. Ask if anyone sees any other steps
or objectives you should add to this list.
Select the very first goal within each mission and discuss
specifically what it will take to succeed at it down to a
daily or weekly plan. Understand that if you don't get to
the first milestone, you'll never get any further either. Ask
for suggestions or ideas to improve the plan.
Make a commitment a promise to the group that you
will achieve each of the very first goals in your calendar.
Seek and offer support and solutions for what the
participant will need to guarantee their success at these
first steps.
Missions are the big picture and include the big WHY of
all subsequent actions. Goals are the strategic parts that
make up the picture. They are the path for fulfilling the
WHY.
If you have a truly desirable vision, then you need to create a doable
mission by first defining the things you must do to get it done.
Progress Report
Can you feel the unlimited power and inspiration that comes from
Clarity, Conviction and Commitment? Yes! Its time to put this authentic,
empowered feeling to good use and start taking action to fulfill a life of
valuable service, satisfaction and significance.

Smiles
An Example From the Bible of One Persons Mission
Before you can improve your performance, you have to look carefully
and objectively to see how often and how well you are performing right now.
Your current TQ score does not matter as much as your desire to
improve. What you are going to do next and how you are going to do it are
much more important than how well you performed in the past.
Notice how much easier and less confrontational it is to speak about
your own or someones Weak Organize Color rather than referring directly
to the person as someone who is erratic, inconsistent, haphazard or
careless.
Notice how much easier it is to focus more of my time on seeking
solutions than it is to try to overcome an overwhelming personality fault
such as a bad attitude.
Notice how all the 100 Factors are doable and how useful each would
be to help you be a lot more productive each day.
Notice how there is more hope in being more successful when you
simply focus on doing a short list of specific actions better than before.

Those who win at what they set out to accomplish are those who are

their life inside and the world outside. Knowing the value and
importance of what they have to offer, they throw themselves whole-
heartedly into every project, goal and mission with the highest level of skill

Therefore, it could be said that... Winners achieve Success On Purpose

said that believers achieve Success On Purpose every day they commit their
best effort to those things that God cares about the most.
Do you see any differences in the speaker between now and the first

Is there an increase of clarity in what they want to do with their life?
