PRESS RELEASE:

October 23, 2017

On October 16, 2017, a 70-year-old Decatur resident was the victim of an Attempted
Murder. The victim was shot multiple times while seated in his car. The victim had stopped his
car on Monroe St. close to the intersection of Center St. The victim had stopped his car because
he thought he had hit someone or something in the roadway. The victim was confronted by
several subjects after he stopped the car, at which time he was shot.

The Decatur Police Department Detectives have continued to investigate this crime.
Through investigation, probable cause was developed to seek an Arrest Warrant for Charles L.
Fitzpatrick for Attempted Murder. On Sunday, October 22, 2017 members of Decatur Police
Department Emergency Response Team and Decatur Police Detectives served the arrest warrant
and arrested Charles Fitzpatrick for Attempted Murder. Fitzpatrick was arrested at 961 N. Union
in Decatur.

Fitzpatrick was booked into the Macon County Jail charged with Attempted Murder.

At this time, the investigation is still on-going, and additional arrests are possible. The
Decatur Police are asking anyone with information to call the Decatur Police Department at 424-
2711, the Investigations Division at 424-2734, or if they would like to remain anonymous they
can call Crime Stoppers at 423-TIPS (8477).

Booking photos can be obtained from the Macon County Jail. No additional information
will be released at this time.
