Move Forward with ConfidenceWhat is ACFM?
> ACFM is a fast electromagnetic testing for finding cracks through
coating.

‘ACFM, EMA, FGI Presentation 2Introduction to ACFM, EMA, FGI
> What they are used for?
« To detect and size any crack through coating, mainly as a replacement for
conventional Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) or Penetrant Testing (PT).
« So, no need to remove the paint off and no need to clean the part. It just
works through any coating, dust, scale and dirt.
> What materials can be tested?
Any conductive materials can be tested. (Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Stainless
Steel, Aluminium, almost any metal, ...)
> On what type of coating it can operate?
« It can operate through any non-conductive coating up to 5mm thickness.
« It also works through most conductive coatings such as Galvanised coating,
Aluminium spray coating, etc.
ACFM, EMA, FGI PresentationIntroduction to ACFM, EMA, FGI
> What is the smallest crack we can detect?
Any crack deeper than 1mm and longer than 5mm can be reliably detected
and sized.
> How deep it can penetrate?
« It's a surface method testing. However, depends to the material properties, it
could detect subsurface defect for a few millimetre deep.
> Can we test an equipment while it’s on-service?
e Definitely. It can test any surface between -20°C to 500°C. It can be
supplemented to any external inspection of equipment while they are online.
ACFM, EMA, FGI PresentationWhy ACFM, EMA or FGI?
> What is the advantages over MPI and PT?
te
2
Completely non-invasive and environmentally friendly
No need to remove/re-instatement the paint
No need surface preparation
It's much faster and other NDT method
No need any chemical
No need lighting
It can measure depth
It provides a permanent record of test results
It works in low and high temperature
. It's easy to deploy rope access
. Cost saving due to no need for coating removal and surface preparation
ACFM, EMA, FGI Presentation 5What's the difference between them?
> ACFM uses only one set of sensors. So, it’s perfect for weld
scanning. For wide cap welds, it need 2-3 pass to cover the whole
surface.

‘ACFM, EMA, FGI PresentationElectromagnetic Array (EMA) uses an array of sensors (normally 8
channel). So it can scan a wide area in one scan.

ACFM, EMA, FGI PresExamples of Applications
> Weld Testing with no need of paint removal
> Pressure Vessel and Piping External and Internal Inspection to find
any cracking
> Pipeline Inspection after excavation to find any cracking without
removal of coating
> Rails, Axles, Bogies, Wheels to find any cracking
> Steel Structures and Bridges with no need of paint/coating removal
> Cast and Forged Parts
> Offshore platforms
