PART 1:

- Examiner: Hello. I would like to ask you some questions about yourself. Whats

Betty.
- Examiner: Whats your surname? Can you spell it for me?
- Student: I have two surnames, Riberaygua and Montane. Riberaygua is spelt R-I-
B-E-R-A-Y-G-U-A and Montane is spelt M-O-N-T-A-N-E.
- Examiner: Can you tell me about your family?
- Student: There are seven in my family, Dad, Mum, my two brothers, my sister,
my dog and I. I have included my dog because we all love him so much that we
see him as part of our family.
- Examiner: What did you do on your last holiday?
- Student: My family and I usually go to the beach for our holidays. Our nearest
beach is near Barcelona, so we went there for my last holiday.

PART 2:

- Examiner: I would like you to look at the image and talk about it between
yourselves.
Student A and B talk to each other:

- A: All of the images show places that would be suitable as holiday destinations.
The first image is of the mountains, which I think would be very interesting to
visit. I have always wanted to spend some time in the mountains. What do you
think
- B: I agree with you about the mountains, but walking in the mountains is lot of
hard work. The image of the beach is much more interesting. It would be even
better if we could visit the lighthouse, which would be a lot of fun. I have always
wanted to visit a lighthouse because I think it would be very interesting. Dont
you agree
- A: You could be right, but I get bored sitting on the beach all day. The image of
the big city in much more interesting. All that excitement, the top restaurants
and the night clubs is my idea of a holiday. I could happily spend a week or two
visiting all famous places and sightseeing. If I had to choose, I would choose the
city. How about you?...
- B: Yes, I can see what you mean, and I think I agree with you. It is very difficult
to choose which my favorite would be because they are all interesting places, but
either the city or the beach would be most fun. I think I would also choose the
city for the same reasons as you.

PART 3:

- Examiner: I would like you to look at the photograph and talk about it.
- Student A:
This picture shows a group of young people enjoying the sport of rafting. It is
clear that they are enjoying it because they are all smiling.
It looks like fun but is actually very difficult because the river is very powerful and
the raft is difficult to control. Everybody is wearing a helmet and a life jacket
which suggests that this activity can be dangerous if precautions are not taken.
The weather looks very nice, with a clear blue sky and I imagine it is quite warm
as this activity would be unpleasant in cold weather and the people would not
look so happy. It can be seen that the river is in the mountains because the sport
of rafting needs rivers that are very active and these are only found in the
mountains.
If I had the opportunity, I would love to go rafting as I have never tried it and it
looks very exciting.

- Student B:
This image shows a group of people being served by a chef. They are sitting in a
restaurant which looks expensive because the decor is of good quality and the
chef is wearing an exclusive uniform.
 The weather is very sunny and warm because the people are wearing light
clothes and have taken off their jacket. Even the chef is in short sleeves. It is quite
normal for people in hot weather to prefer to eat inside, out of the direct
sunlight, because it is cooler.
It seems to be lunch time because it is sunny outside, and judging by the number
of people eating, the restaurant seems very popular. The chef appears to be
oriental, so it could be in the far east although the clients all seem to be
westerners.
If I had the chance, I would love to sit at this table and have my lunch because I
love going to nice restaurant.

PART 4:

- Examiner: Both your photographs showed people doing things in groups. Now
Id like both of you to talk together about whether you like doing things in groups
or not.
Student A and B talk to each other:
- A: I think doing things alone is OK, but the real fun comes when you are in a
group. For example, playing football alone is boring but playing in a group is
great. What do you think?...
- B: Yes, I can see what you mean, but not everything is better in a group. I like
to be alone with my playstation because when my friends are there, I have to let
them have a go, which is no fun. Dont you agree?...
- A: OK, but what about birthday parties? They are not a lot of fun if you are
alone, are they? Imagine sitting there alone with your presents and nobody else.
That would be horrible, dont you think?...
- B: Yes, I think you have a very good point. OK, so I agree. Most things are better
in groups, but there are one or two things that are more fun alone. Is that
right?...
- A: Yes, thats right, although sometimes it is more fun sharing than playing alone.
You can laugh at your friends mistakes, and they treat you better if you share.
Nobody likes people who dont share.
 PART 2

Sample 1:

- A: What would be a good present for a friend's wedding? Let's talk about all
the picture first
- B: OK. I think if we choose some CDs for a wedding, they can be a good idea but
I'm afraid that they have already chosen some wedding songs for their wedding
and we have to make sure that they haven't got the CD we buy for them.
- A: Im agree with you. Then why don't we get them a plant? I'm not sure about
that because I think plants might be a bit boring. How about a glass bowl?
- B: Well, that idea is quite good but I think it isn't perfect for a wedding.

- A: In my opinion, they can decorate their wedding by putting something in

that bowl. That is quite interesting.
- B: Hmm, you've got a point. Then what about a box of chocolate? People often
buy chocolate for a wedding.

- A: Well, for me, chocolate is very perfect for a romantic situation and it's also
a very popular sweets and most of the people love chocolate. Then I'll choose
the box of chocolate.
- B: Me too. We've decided to buy a box of chocolate for our friend's wedding.
Sample 2:

- A: What would be a good place for a weekend at a campsite? Let's talk about
all the pictures first.
- B: OK. If we camp at a farm with some cows, I don't think it would be nice
because the cows are very noisy, smelly and dirty.

- A: Yes, I agree with you. And I don't think that we will love to camp at a car
park. It's very noisy, dirty, dangerous and the horns are very loud.
- B: Of course, we won't love to camp there. And I don't think it's a good idean if
we camp at the showers. It's very busy everyday, lots of people going in and out.
Oh, and the dustbins, they are really smelly.

- A: Yes, we won't camp at the showers. I think it might be nice if we camp

under a tree. The tree will give us shade and the atmosphere is very quite. For
me, it's perfect.
- B: I love the idea of camping under a tree but I think we can camp by the river.
There are lots of space for us, it's also very quite, and it's a perfect place for
relaxing.

- A: Yeah, you've got a point. Then we'll camp by the river.

- B: Me too. We've decided to camp by the river.
Sample 3:

- A: What would be an enjoyable activity to do exercises? Let's talk about all

the pictures first.
- B: Ok. I think it's really nice to go walking in the countryside. There will be lots of
fresh air and the scenery is very beautiful.

- A: Yes, I agree with you. Then what about go jogging in the city? We can go
jogging early in the morning and we can also train for a marathon.
- B: That's a good idea. How about playing tennis? It's very fun and we can play
with our friends. I think it's a good exercise.

- A: Yeah, you've got a point. Then do you think doing yoga is a good idea?
- B: No, I'm not sure it's a good idea. Doing yoga is sometimes very boring, it's also
not very fun and I love to do exercises which we have to move much.

- A: You're right. Then I'm sure we will love swimming. As you know, we both
love watersports. Swimming is an excellent exercise to your whole body. And
the most important thing that we both enjoy is swimming.
- B: Yeah. I'll choose swimming.

- A: Me too. We've decided to go swimming for exercise.

Sample 4:

- A: What would be best to make the room more comfortable? Let's talk about
all the picture first.
- B: OK. I think a tank of gold fish is a nice thing. Do you agree?

- A: Well, it could be very nice but I don't think people are interested in gold
fish although it's very nice.
- B: Yeah, may be, how about some megazines? They are very good and suitable
for waiting. People often read some megazines when they are waiting for
something.

- A: Yes, so that makes they become popular. The dentist wants something
different, not these megazines again.
- B: I agree with you. What about some music? Would it be nice?

- A: Music is very nice but the patients don't want only music, they still feel
bored.
- B: You're right. How do you think about some toys for children?

- A: That is a good idea but there are not only children need to go to the
dentist, there are also adults. The aldults will feel bored because there're
nothing to do.
- B: I agree. What do you think about a vending machine?

- A: That isn't a god idea. They go to the dentist for checking their teeth, not
eating candy and snacks. Cand and snacks make their teeth became even
worse.
- B: That's right. Then a TV will be good, right?

- A: Yes, it's perfect for this uncomfortable waiting room. Because most of the
people enjoy watching TV and if they want to forget about their pain,
watching TV is a good idea.
- B: I think that way, too. So let's decide. We both think the dentist should buy a TV
for their waiting room so the room will be better.
Sample 5:

- A: What would be the most useful for the tourist? Let's talk about all the
pictures first?
- B: OK. I think a mail express is a good idea because if the tourist want to send
something for their family or friends to say that he or she is going to visit them or
something they can use the mail express.

- A: I agree with you but do they have to do that. The letter that they want to
send will be deliver to the people which will be sent in about 2 or 3 days but
the tourist will visit in the day they sent the letter. Would it be useful?
- B: No, then how about a clothes shop? Is it a good idea?

- A: Well, I'm not sure. Maybe the tourist don't need that because I'm sure
when they travel to the place they want, they can go shopping for clothes
there and the clothes at the airport are usually expensive and the tourists are
not sure if they are good.
- B: It might be. Then what about a hair cut? Will it be alright?

- A: I don't think so because people usually have prepaired everything about

their appearience before they travel so they won't really need a hair cut.
- B: You're right. What do you think about a bank?

- A: I think that idea is quite good but probably, peope have brought their own
money because they know that there is no bank at the airport.
- B: I agree. How do you think about a restaurant? Is it good for the tourist?

- A: Yeah, maybe but I think people have already eat something before they go
to the airport because they afraid that the airport doesn't have a restaurant
so they could have a meal and people love to save their money.
- B: I suppose so. I think a play ground is perfect because kids can play there. Do
you agree?

- A: Yes, I do but what about aldults? They will still feel bored.
- B: Then you choose the computer room, right?

- A: Yes, I think it's perfect both for children and aldults because they can do
everything from entertaining and reading news or playing games while they
are waiting it's very perfect. Everyone will never feel bored.
- B: I think that way, too. So let's decide. We both think the airport should build a a
computer room for tourist while they arev waiting.
 PART 3

Sample 1:

The picture shows three boys in a small boat on a river. The river looks cold and wet and the water is
moving fast.
One of the boys is holding a paddle or an oar. He is looking down at the water and he looks worried.
Maybe he thinks that they are going to hit something or fall out.

The boy in the middle is smiling. He is enjoying the adventure! Hes only wearing a T-shirt, so maybe
it is not very cold. The third boy is looking at something up the river, near a bridge or a wall. There
could be something coming, or maybe there are some others in a boat.

I think they are Arab students on a holiday or a summer school. I hope they are enjoying themselves!
Sample 2:

This is a picture of a big city on a river. The picture was taken from high up, maybe from a skyscraper
or a tower or even an airplane.
The picture shows boats and ships in the river and some big old and modern buildings on the land.
There are trees along the river and there is some traffic on the road which runs along the river.

One of the ships looks old, and there are some steps so that people can walk onto it. In the right of
the picture there is a big modern building. I think it is a museum or a train station or a big shopping
center.
Sample 3:

The picture shows a family visiting their new baby in hospital. Its the evening, because the light is
on, so the father must have brought his children after work or school.
There are two children beside the baby, a boy and a girl. The boy is a little older than his sister. Hes
about six or seven. He looks proud. The girl looks very excited to have a new sister.

The father has his arm around his children. He looks proud as well. The mother is sitting at the left.
She looks happy but a little tired.

The baby is in the middle. I think its a girl, because she is wearing pink clothes. The baby is sleeping
despite all the noise and excitement.
Sample 4:

In this picture there is a group of young men standing or sitting outside a big red-brick building.
Three or four of the men are having their photograph taken. Most of them are wearing casual clothes,
but one boy is wearing a suit.

I think they are not sure what to wear or what to do. They are just waiting for something or to go
somewhere. There are some bags or backpacks on the grass. Maybe they have brought some books or
clothes.

I think this is a college or a school, and it is the first or last day of the semester. From the trees and
the grass, I think it is probably in the UK or the USA.
Sample 5:

The picture shows a man, I think it is George Bush, visiting a hospital.

There are a lot of people in the picture. Most of them are hospital workers, but some could be
patients. Some of them are doctors and nurses, because they are wearing uniforms and have ID
cards.

One of the staff is shaking hands with George Bush and laughing. He must be saying something
funny because most of the people are laughing or smiling.

At the back, there are some men. They could be hospital administrators, but maybe they are
policemen or security.
Sample 6:

The picture shows a big group of young people having a barbeque in a park. I think they are from
Japan but Im not sure: it could be some other Asian country
There are about 20 people in the group, and most of them are wearing jeans and blue or dark-
coloured shirts. They are having a lot of fun, and some of them are making faces at the camera.
Everybody is trying to get in the picture.

They are in some kind of a park or a forest. They could be on holiday, or it could be a school trip. I
dont know what they are cooking. It could be hamburger, but it could also be some special Japanese
food!
Sample 7:

The picture shows a man holding a fish and a trophy.

He must have won a fishing competition. The fish he is holding isnt very big, so perhaps he caught
some other ones, or else there was a time limit!

Hes wearing a baseball cap so the weather must be nice. The mans about 45 years old. Hes standing
in a boat or else near a lake or a big river. I can see some boats behind him.

The trophy has some names on it. Perhaps they are last years winners, and the competition is held
every year.
Sample 8:

In this picture, a man is putting some sausages on a barbeque.

Its a warm sunny day and a lot of people are sitting having a barbeque outdoors in a park or some
public area. There are some cars outside the fence, so it looks like they drove there.

The man is using a big gas-barbeque. Hes turning the sausages with a spatula. Hes holding a bun or
some bread in his hand, so maybe hes going to make a burger or a hotdog. Hes a little bit fat, so I
think he likes barbequeing!

Behind him there is a young woman in a pink dress. Perhaps they are related. There are some other
people at a big wooden picnic table. The barbeque looks like a nice thing for a family or friends to do
on a long hot summer day.
Sample 9:

The picture shows three girls waiting for a plane in the departure lounge at an airport.
They are laughing and having a lot of fun, even though I think they have been waiting a long time. I
think theyve been waiting a long time because they look tired, especially the girl on the left. She is
leaning her head on her friends shoulder. The girl on the right has finished reading a paper, and it
looks like they have been drinking some Seven-Up while they were waiting. As well as that, the
airport is crowded, and there are a lot of other people waiting for the next plane.

They all have some hand luggage, but I cant see any big bags, so they must have checked in their
baggage already. They are wearing coats and hats and scarves, so the weather must be cold at the
airport or where they are going.
Sample 10:

This is a funny picture. It shows three old ladies picking apples in an orchard or a garden. They are
having a good old time!
One of the ladies is high up on a ladder, picking the apples at the top of the tree. Her hair is still dark,
so I think she is the youngest of the three. The other two are on the ground. One lady, the oldest, is
holding a bucket or a pail full of red apples. The other woman is also wearing a hat, so it must be hot.

The three of them are smiling at the camera. I dont know who is taking the picture, but perhaps it is
someone in their family. I think after they are finished they will use the apples for baking or cooking.
Sample 11:

The photograph shows a football player getting a red card from a referee at a soccer match.
The player who is getting the card is on the white team. He is turning away and looks disgusted. I
think he cant believe it. The other players in the picture are all from the other team. They look very
happy with the referees decision. The other team has a blue and white kit.

The referee is holding the red card high in the air. He is being very clear I think he is quite strict
and is not allowing any discussion. The stadium is crowded, and it is difficult to see where the players
are from, but it must be an important match.
Sample 12:

The picture shows three astronauts waiting for takeoff.

The astronauts are wearing bright orange uniforms or flight suits. Two of them have US flags on their
shoulders so they must be American, but I cant see where the other one is from.

The astronaut nearest the camera looks nervous. I think he is worried or anxious about the flight.
Maybe he is thinking about what he has to do on this mission, or maybe he is thinking about his
family. Behind him there is a scientist or an official.

They could be waiting for the space shuttle to get ready, or perhaps there is a problem with the
weather and their lift-off has been delayed.
Sample 13:

In this picture there is a group of runners taking part in a race in a city street. It looks like a big
event. There are a lot of people watching and there are a lot of banners and signs in the background.
Perhaps its a long-distance race or a marathon.
All the runners in the picture are men, so perhaps its a mens race. In the center of the picture, one
runner has stopped to help another runner, who is sitting on the ground. The man on the ground is
wearing an orange shirt. Perhaps he has cramp or is exhausted. A medic or official in a yellow jacket
is running towards him, perhaps to help him or to see if he is ok. The other runners look tired
perhaps its nearly the end of the race.

I think the race is being held in the evening. There are long shadows on the road. There are also some
leaves on the road, so I think it could be in the autumn, when the weather is cooler and perfect for
running.
Sample 14:

The picture shows three men talking to a little girl in a hospital.

The little girl is about five or six and she looks very sick. Her hair is very thin, maybe because she is
taking medicine to treat cancer, and her face is pale. But she is talking and laughing with the visitors.
I think she is recovering from some disease or illness and the three men have come to visit her
because she is brave. She is making them and the nurse laugh. I think she is recovering because she
is not in bed. Instead, she is sitting near the nurses station, where she has been playing with some
crayons and paper.

The men are all about the same age and height. They are not wearing suits, but jackets. They could be
administrators or local politicians or just people who were visiting someone else in the hospital. I
dont think they belong to her family because she looks a little shy.
Sample 15:

I think this is a sad or quiet picture. It shows two girls waiting at an airport. They are standing at a
big window, looking out at the runway.
One of the girls, the smaller girl, has her hands against the window. The other girl, who is about eight
years old, is also standing quietly looking out.

There arent any planes on the runway, only some service vehicles and trucks bringing fuel or water
or luggage.

I think the two girls have been waiting a long time for someone, maybe their mother or father, to
come, but there has been some delay.

There must be someone else with them, because they are too young to be in the airport by
themselves, so maybe the person who is taking the picture is also waiting impatiently.
Sample 16:

The picture shows a group of people making a film or a television program in a hospital room.
One man is operating a camera and another man is holding a microphone. A third man is watching
or looking at something. He could be a producer or director, or a reporter. They are all very casually
dressed and they dont seem to have a lot of equipment, so I dont think it is a big movie.

They are probably from the television station and they are making a report about someone who was
injured in an accident. Its not a special room like intensive care and the television people are not
wearing gowns or masks so whoever they are filming is not very sick.
