Using FireWorks web services software
The web services feature of FireWorks allows you to remotely connect
to a FireWorks computer and receive data from a FireWorks computer.
The event data in FireWorks is transmitted to the Web Client computer
over the Internet or an intranet. The same event data that is available in
FireWorks is also available on the Web Client computer, making it
easy to monitor your FireWorks system from any remote location.
The web services feature of FireWorks includes the
Web Client application and the Web Server application.
The Web Client software can be installed on any PC. The Web Server
software must be installed on the primary FireWorks computer. FW-1S
software supports one remote client. For up to five remote, concurrent
clients, you must upgrade to software FW-4S. Note that FW-1S must
be installed before installing FW-4S.

FireWorks Web Client network administration

form
This form is used to provide a means for communication between the

FireWorks Web Client users can access the FireWorks web server.
The FireWorks administrator must first complete section 1. Then, based
on the information in section 1, the network administrator must fill out
section 2. Both administrators should retain the completed form for
future reference.

12 FireWorks Software Installation Guide

Overview
FireWorks uses Microsofts Internet Information Services (IIS) version
5.1 web server on the FireWorks server to communicate with the
FireWorks Web Client using web services. These web services
communicate over ports 80 and 443 using http and https respectively.
The network address of the FireWorks server therefore needs to remain
constant either through the use of a static IP address or a DNS name.
Section 1
The FireWorks administrator must complete this section. FireWorks
Web Client users will be located on (check all that apply):
___ Internet
___ Dial-in
___ Company/building VPN (virtual private network)
___ Company/building intranet
___ Same LAN that the FireWorks web server is on
___ Other: _______________________________________________

Section 2
The network administrator must complete this section. The network
address of the FireWorks web server is:
DNS name: ______________________________________________
and/or
Static IP address: __________________________________________
Note: If a static IP address is available, the network administrator must
configure the FireWorks web server computer with that IP address.

Installing the FireWorks Web Client software

The Web Client software is used to view information from FireWorks
remotely. The Web Client software communicates with and receives
information from FireWorks over an intranet or Internet connection.
Note: Before installing the Web Client, it is important that your
network administrator and the FireWorks administrator review and fill
out the FireWorks Web Client network administration form in this
manual. The form is used to provide a means for communication
between the FireWorks administrator and the network administrator so
that remote FireWorks web client users can access the FireWorks web
server.

FireWorks Software Installation Guide 13

FireWorks Web Client network administration form, you can install
the Web Client software and begin receiving information from

Creating a desktop shortcut icon to connect to a

FireWorks web server
You can create a desktop shortcut icon and set it up to connect to a
specific FireWorks web server. When you configure the shortcut, you
must provide the FireWorks server IP address and, if desired, the user
ID, password, and the language you prefer using. When you double-
click the shortcut, the web client automatically connects to the
FireWorks server. If you provided your user ID and password, then all
you have to do is click Logon to access the system. This allows you to
quickly launch Web Client and connect to a specific FireWorks.
By creating and configuring the shortcut icon, you eliminate having to
type the IP address, user ID, and password each time you log on to the
FireWorks server. You can create a different desktop shortcut icon for
each FireWorks server you want to connect to and name them
appropriately.

To create the desktop shortcut icon:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Programs.
3. Click GE Security.
4. Click FireWorks.
5. Right click on FireWorks Remote Web Client.
6. Click Send To.
