Network Analysis

Tutorial 1

Try to solve the tasks in the tutorial on 20th October, 2017.

Task 1: Basic calculations

1. For the case U = 20 V and R = 100 , what would be the equivalent current
source so the same power is dissipated at the resistance? What Power is
dissipated?
Solution:
P = 4W
I = 0.2 A
2. What happens to the dissipated power, if the resistance is reduced or increased
by the factor of 0.01, 0.1, 10 and 100 and either the current or voltage is held
constant?
Solution:
P (1 , 20 V) = 400 W P (10 , 20 V) = 40 W
P (1000 , 20 V) = 0.4 W P (10000 , 20 V) = 0.04 W
P (1 , 0.2 mA) = 0.04 W P (10 , 0.2 mA) = 0.4 W
P (1000 , 0.2 mA) = 40 W P (10000 , 0.2 mA) = 400 W

Task 2: Resistors
1. What colors describe the following resistances: 10 , 52 , 5.8 k, 0.4 M and
32 M? Consider a resistor with 4 color rings. What is the fourth ring for?
Solution:
brown/black/black; green/red/black; green/gray/red
yellow/black/yellow; orange/red/blue
2. What are the resistances of the resistors with the following markings: 5R3,
70R, 564 and 576?
Solution: 5.3 , 70 , 560 k, 57 M
3. Calculate the missing values of the E 24 series on slide [2.24]!
Solution: E24: 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 43, 47,
51, 56, 62, 68, 75, 82, 91
Note: This is the official series. Some values are not correct regarding the
rounding in the formular due to historical reasons.

Task 3:
Someone has drawn a very confusing network. Determine for every resistor the
resistance, current, power and voltage. Hint: At all crossings there is no connection
between the lines.
