NSPF = Feature of ZFS: No single point of failure - indicates that data is arranged in mirrors or RAID stripes
such that a pathological JBOD failure will not result in data loss.

The worksheet is designed to calculate the ZFS Storage

Appliance storage space based on different configuration
options.
The Capacity Results are obtained through computing the
raw data obtained from a ZFS simulator: the tool generates a
storage pool and expands it when other hdds/enclosure types
are selected;

USAGE :

--Begin by selecting your usage scenario in cell B3.

-Based on your scenario selection you receive a
recommendation for a ZFS system in cell E3.
--If you want to select other ZFS system than the
recommended on select in in cell G3.
-Based on your selection in cell C5 the system selected/
recommended appears and in cell B11 you can see maximum
number of enclosures for that system.

--In cell range B14-L14 select how many enclosures with

20/24 disk drives you want for the available hdds displayed
on cell range B12-I12.

In the table A19-H29 the storage capacity results appear

based on your selection. If you select more enclosures than
the maximum supported by the selected ZFS system you
receive an error message and you will have to correct the
number of enclosures.
MIRRORS
-Writes: Multiple writes divided among mirrors; each write
written in whole to each drive in the mirror* 2-drive mirrors:
Two disk IOPs for each app write** 3-drive mirrors: Three
disk IOPs for each app write**
-Reads: Each block is read from only one drive (unless
checksum is bad) 2- and 3-drive mirrors: One disk IOP for
each app read**
* Up to ZFS record size ** ZFS groups multiple reads & writes
into transaction groups, so the ratio will actually be better.

RAIDZ [1|2|3]
-Writes: Multiple writes divided among stripes; each write
divided (if possible and/or necessary) across drives and
written with requested parity wider stripes more disk
IOPs per application IOP
-Reads: Each read from only data drives (unless checksum is
bad) wider stripes more disk IOPs per application IOP

MIRRORS
-Lots of logical devices to spread application ops around
-Fewer drive IOPs per application IOP
-Much less usable space
-Great for random workloads

RAIDZ[1|2|3]
-(Much) Fewer logical devices to spread application ops
around
-More drive IOPs per application IOP
-More usable space (as stripes get wider)
-Great for streaming/sequential workloads
RAIDZ[1|2|3]
-(Much) Fewer logical devices to spread application ops
around
-More drive IOPs per application IOP
-More usable space (as stripes get wider)
-Great for streaming/sequential workloads

RAIDZ Narrow Stripes

-More logical devices to spread application ops around (but
less than mirrored)
-Fewer drive IOPs per application IOP
-Less usable space
-Potential balance between performance and capacity if
neither is paramount

RAIDZ Wide Stripes

-Fewer logical devices to spread application ops around
-More drive IOPs per application IOP
-More usable space (as stripes get wider)
-Lowest performance; best capacity
