Ants VICENS VIVES
Ants are the most hardworking insects. They
work the whole day in order to build and
maintain their anthill, collect food and protect
the ant population. They are very disciplined
and follow orders like soldiers.

Ants are social insects, living in large

colonies. The colony is typically divided into the
following classes: queens (reproductive
females), males, and workers (nonreproductive
females).

Some colonies have only one queen; other colonies have several. The queens are fed by the workers.
The males' only function is to mate with the queens. The workers enlarge and protect the anthill.

Depending on the species, queens live about 5 to 30 years, so this type of ant is the longest-living
insect. Workers live about 1 to 3 years. Males live only for a mating season.
