Beginner:

- The front tackle is used when the ball carrier is running directly at the tackler.
- Approximately 1 meter distance away from opposing player when contact is made.
- Shoulder at hip height > Head at the opposite side to contacting shoulder> Drive forward
towards opponent > Wrap arms around the legs, below the hip but above the knee and
squeeze.
- *Remember* HIT STICK SQUEEZE
Cheek to Cheek
- Squeeze your opponents legs to stop them running, and bring them to the ground.

*Ball carrier to WALK in a straight line at the tackler, once contact has been made, ball carrier
must present the ball in either a jack-knife position OR long and strong.*

Intermediate:

- Tackler starts in a squat position, maintaining balance with feet shoulder width apart.
- Same technique is used as above, however starting position is stronger tackler should begin
to use more force in the tackle.

*Ball carrier is to WALK in a straight line to begin. Once the technique is correct, then progress to
advanced stage*
Advanced:

- The tackler must keep their eye on the ball carrier. As the ball carrier reaches the tackler, the
tackler should move their head to one side of their body (opposite to the contacting
shoulder).
- They should end up in the cheek to bum cheek position. Drive upwards into the ball carriers
mid-section to force them off balance.
- The tackler wants to use the ball carrier's momentum to sit them down, with their arms
wrapped around their thighs. As the tackler sits on their bum, they should turn to send the
ball carrier over their shoulder, and land on top of them.

*Ball carrier to run in a straight line at the tackler. The ball carrier should be able to hit the ground
and present the ball or off load if support is available.

- Start in the middle at the red cone.


- Ball carrier goes around the blue cone and attempts to score a try on the white coned line.
- Tackler runs around the white cone and attempts to make a tackle.
- Keep score, 1 point for a try scored and 1 point for a successful tackle made.
