1. Number of teeth remaining

2. Quality of residual ridge (determine whether the supporting bone has been resorbed and
replaced by displaceable fibrous connective tissue)

3. Presence of tori or bony exostoses (affects the framework design)

4. Differentiate the displaceability of tissue over median palatal raphe and the tissues covering
residual alveolar ridge (so that the amount of relief is proportionate to these areas)

5. Occlusal relationship of opposing arch

6. Vitality tests of remaining teeth

7. Determine the height of floor of the mouth (to locate the inferior borders of lingual
mandibular major connector)
