Pumpkins Halloween's Coming
When you see me in the fields, (Tune: London Bridge)
My orange glowing in the sun, Halloween will soon be here,
It's time to say goodbye to summer Soon be here, soon be here.
And hello to autumn fun!! Halloween will soon be here
Look out, eeeeeek!
Witches riding on a broom,
Jack OLantern On a broom, on a broom.
The Jack OLantern chuckled Witches riding on a broom,
Then winked his funny eye, Look out, eeeeeek!
I would rather be a pumpkin-face
Than be inside a pie! Black cats howling on a fence,
On a fence, on a a fence.
Black cats howling on a fence,
Look out, eeeeeek!

Goblins hiding in the dark,

In the dark, in the dark.
Goblins hiding in the dark,
Look out, eeeeeek!

What Do I See? Skeletons clanking in a line,

I see a big ghost In a line, in a line.
I see a bat, Skeletons clanking in a line,
I see a little witch, Look out, eeeeeek!
I see a cat.
Trick-or-treaters everywhere,
Look at the jack-olantern, Everywhere, everywhere.
Look at the owl, Trick-or-treaters everywhere,
Look at the skeleton Look out, eeeeeek!
He is on the prowl!
Strange things happening all around,
All around, all around
To I'm a Little Teapot Strange things happening all around,
I'm a little pumpkin Look out, eeeeeek!
Short and stout
Chock full of seeds that you can scoop out
When I am already I will be
The cutest jack'o'lantern you ever did see!

Ghost and Goblins What Will We Be?
Ghosts and Goblins, cats and bats, Aidan will be an astonaut
Cats and bats, cats and bats, Bill will be a bat.
Witches in their funny hats, Megans a ballerina
It is Halloween! And Pats a pussy cat.
Vic will be a vampire
And he will give a scare
Halloween Witches (Tune: Ten Little Indians) Joan will be a princess
One little, two little, three little witches With flowers in her hair.
Fly over haystacks Michael is still thinking
Fly over ditches And Sally cant decide
Slide down moonbeams without any hitches Will Michael be a monster
Hey! Ho! Halloween's here. And Sally be a bride?
Halloween is lots of fun
Stand on your head with a lop-sided wiggle With many costumes made.
Tickle your little black cats till they giggle They all will be for you to see
Swish through the clouds with a higgledy-piggle In the Halloween parade!
Hey! Ho! Halloween's here.

Three Ghostesses
Three little ghostesses,
Sitting on postesses,
Eating buttered toastesses,
Greasing their fistesses,
Up to their wristesses,
Jack-O-Lantern Oh, what beastesses
(Tune: Did You Ever See a Lassie?) To make such feastesses!
Oh, once I had a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin
Oh, once I had a pumpkin, with no face at all
With no eyes and no nose and no mouth and no
teeth Trick or Treat
Oh, once I had a pumpkin with no face all Witches, ghosts, and goblins.
Stealing down the street,
So I made a jack-o-lantern, jack-o-lantern, Knock on every door way,
jack-o-lantern Trick or treat!
So I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face When your door is opened,
With big eyes and a big nose and big mouth This is what you meet,
and big teeth Scary creatures shouting,
So I made a jack-o-lantern with a big funny face. Trick or treat!

Witches Brew Monsters
______, _______, _______, too. There are monsters everywhere,
Stir them in my witches brew. Monsters wandering in my hair,
I've got magic - Ala-kala-ma-zoo! Monsters on the corner stair,
Ooooo ..My witches brew Monsters in the rocking chair,
Ooooo ..What's it going to do to you? Monsters going up the wall,
Boo! Monsters that are very tall,
If I caught them in a bunch,
Have the children give you 2 words to go in I'd have monster stew for lunch.
each space, such as: dead leaves, rotten
eggs, spider webs, moldy bread, mucky mud,
purple paint, finger nails, lunch pails, apple I made a funny pumpkin face
cores, wrinkled prunes, etc. For everyone to see.
It looked so very big and cross
It even frightened me.

I love...
Ghosts a just right
I think I'll wear a sheet, stormy night
A big, white, ghostly sheet; shutters banging
And go about on Halloween webs hanging
To scare the folks I meet. doors squeaking
I'll be entirely covered up - floors creaking
All white from head to feet, goose-bumping
And I don't think they'll ever guess strange thumping
That I'm inside that sheet. candles flickering
witches snickering
groans and moans
Five little jack-o-lanterns sitting on a gate, and bunches of bones
The first one said, Oh, my! It's shadows creeping
getting late. lightening leaping
The second one said, There's witches bats flying
in the air. ghosts sighing
The third one said, We don't care. ghouls mumbling
The fourth one said, Let's run, let's run. castles crumbling
The fifth one said, Let's stay and a scary ending. . .
have some fun! but just pretending!

Countdown It's getting scarier all about,
There are ten ghosts in the basement, You're starting to wish
There are nine upon the stairs, you'd never went out.
There are eight ghosts in the attic, Panic now, what will you do?
There are seven on the chairs. Then something jumps right out at you.
There are six ghosts in the kitchen, BOO!
There are five along the hall,
There are four upon the ceiling,
There are three up on the wall.
There are two ghosts on the carpet, What Witches Do
What are we going to do? The witches don their pointed hats,
There is one ghost right behind you, The witches croak and croon,
Who is so quiet. The witches ride their broomsticks,
BOO! Away beyond the moon.
The witches don their flowing cloaks,
The witches stir their brew.
I laugh at my Jack OLantern, The witches chant their magic spells,
I think he is fun to see. All the dark hours through.
He must be thinking the same thing, The witches stroke their big black cats,
Because he is laughing at me! They comb their locks of gray,
Yet when the first faint daylight comes.
The witches hide away.

The Monster Teacher Scared Me

She frightened me so much today.
She said, There is no 'A' in they!
She said it so meanly,
Pumpkin So very ............Halloweenly!
We bought a fat orange pumpkin
The plumpest sort they sell. Students! she said,
We neatly scooped the inside out As she took off her head --
And only left the shell. There is an 'E' in they.
We carved a funny funny-face It has the sound of 'A'.
Of silly shape and size,
A pointy nose, a jagged mouth, Write down the, then add Y,
And two enormous eyes. It's as simple as eyeball pie.
We set it in a window Just be very sure you spell it right.
And we put a candle in, It will save you from an awfulfright!
Then lit it up for all to see
Our Jack OLantern grin! THERE IS NO 'A' IN THEY!!!!!!

The Pumpkin Poem A Pumpkin
One day I found two pumpkin seeds. We have a pumpkin
I planted one and pulled the weeds. A big orange pumpkin.
It sprouted roots and a big, long vine. We gave him two eyes
A pumpkin grew; I called it mine. To see where he goes.
The pumpkin was quite round and fat.
(I really am quite proud of that.) We gave him a mouth,
But there is something I'll admit We gave him a nose,
That has me worried just a bit. We put a candle in it
I ate the other seed, you see. To see how it glows.
Now will it grow inside of me?
(I'm so relieved since I have found
That pumpkins only grow in the ground!)
Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Pumpkin, pumpkin, big and fat.
Happy Halloween Turn into a jack-o-lantern just like that.
It's late and we are sleepy, Pumpkin, Pumpkin, sitting on a wall.
The air is cold and still. Pumpkin, pumpkin, tip and fall.
Our jack-o-lantern grins at us Pumpkin, pumpkin rolling down the street.
Upon the window sill. Pumpkin, pumpkin, good to eat!

We're stuffed with cake and candy

And we've had a lot of fun, My old black cat
But now it's time to go to bed hates Halloween.
And dream of all we've done. He shakes and quakes and cries.
He should be good
We'll dream of ghosts and goblins on Halloween,
And of witches that we've seen, but much to my surprise,
And we'll dream of trick or treating he stays in bed
On this Happy Halloween. and hides his head.
Now why does he do that?
Meow, he says,
Meow, he says,
I'm just a scaredy cat!

Halloween
The dogs bark
The night is dark
Look where you go on Halloween night, And spooky things are seen.
Some scary things will give you a fright! The witches ride
There's ghosts and goblins here and there, The children hide
Scary things are everywhere!
Tonight is Halloween!

Tune: I'm a Little Teapot The Halloween Surprise
I'm a happy scarecrow made out of straw, Dad and I shopped for a pumpkin
Listening for the noisy crows to caw. To carve for Halloween.
I watch the fields all day and all night too. The one we bought was round and fat,
If a crow comes by I just say, BOO! The best we'd ever seen.
We took it home, and carefully
Scarecrow, scarecrow, what do you see, My dad cut off the top.
Alone at night by the old oak tree? We scooped the gloppy seeds all out
Some old black cats and pumpkins three. Onto paper plop, plop, plop!
That's what I see by the old oak tree. Next, Dad cut out the eyes and mouth,
Then he cut out the nose.
He winked at me and then he said,
Cat, He'll be bald, I suppose.
Cat, I laughed and said, Oh, Daddy,
Your eyes are bright and green, Jack-o-lanterns' heads are bare.
Where have you been I've never seen a single one
What have you done That had a head of hair!
So skittery-scary this Hallowe'en? Then we took our pumpkin outside
With a candle for its light.
And where did you get Our jolly jack-o-lantern glowed
that pointed hat? So brightly in the night.
Tell me that, Long after I had gone to bed,
Cat! Snowflakes began to fall.
They covered up the bushes
And the garden and the wall.
The Witch In the morning I ran out to see
There once was a witch of Willoughby Wood, If my pumpkin was still there.
And a weird wild witch was she; I found him sitting on the porch -
With her hair that was snarled, But now he had white hair!
And hands that were gnarled,
And a rickety, kickety knee.
She could jump they say
To the moon and back, Bobbing for Apples
But this I never did see. Watch us bobbing for an apple
For an apple apple apple,
But no apple apple apple
Not an apple can I get.

Oh, I cannot catch an apple

Not one apple apple apple,
Though my sister got an apple,
All I got was soaking wet!

Hooting owls Halloween is coming,
Big black cats What will you be?
Witches wearing I might be a pirate
Pointed hats. On the deep blue sea.

Ghosts and goblins Halloween is coming,

In the street What will you do?
Are really children I might go trick or treating,
Wearing sheets. How about you?

Jack OLanterns Halloween is coming,

Shining out Who will you meet?
Scary noises I might meet a princess
All about. Skipping down the street.

Halloween has Halloween is coming,

Brought some friends What will you wear?
To help October I might wear a blanket
As it ends. And be a brown bear.

Halloween is coming,
What will you see?
Hallowe'en Sounds I might see a jack-o-lantern
This is the way the witches fly, witches fly, Winking at me.
witches fly,
This is the way the witches fly, Halloween is coming,
Swish, swish, swish. What will you be?
This is the way the ghosts go by, ghosts go by, It's a SECRET,

Oooh, oooh , oooh.
This is the way the black cats howl, black cats howl,

Meow! Meow! Meow!
This is the way the pumpkins laugh, pumpkins laugh,

This is the way the pumpkins laugh,
Hee! Hee! Hee!
This the way the night owls cry, night owls cry,

This is the way the night owls cry,
Hoo, hoo, hoo.

Round and stout For trick or treat.
Packed full of seeds
That you can scoop out
When I get all carved up Halloween Night
Then I'll be Come on along
The cutest Jack-o-Lantern The moon is shining bright
You ever did see! There are goblins and witches
And black cats out tonight.

They chose me from my brothers, Those ghosts and pumpkins

"That's the nicest one!" they said. Gave me a fright.
And they carved me out a face, Oh, but its scary
And put a candle in my head. On Halloween night!
Then they set me on the doorstep,
Oh, the night was dark and wild.
When they lit the candle, Halloween Poem
Then I smiled! Im not afraid on Halloween
Because my mother (teacher) said
I should not fear those funny things
But laugh at them instead.

For yellow faces in the night

That stare with eyes so wide
Are only pumpkins on the step
With candle light inside.

I will not fear a singe thing

Five Little Witches On this All Hallows Eve,
Five little witches Because I know just what they are
On a Halloween night Not what they seem to be.
Made a very spooky sight. The first witch danced
On her tippy tiptoes.
The second witch tumbled And bumped her nose. A Safe Halloween
The third witch flew Halloween night
High up in the air. Is a scary fun time,
The fourth witch combed Her fuzzy hair. With goblins and ghosts
The fifth witch sang And lanterns that shine.
A Halloween song. But don't use a candle,
Five witches played A flashlight is right
The whole night long! To light up your pumpkin
On Halloween night!

Black and Gold Surprise!
Everything is black and gold, What a funny seed I found.
Black and gold tonight; I wondered what would grow?
Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon, So I planted it in the ground
Yellow candle-light. And now I know!
Little leaves were first to sprout
Jet-black cat with golden eyes, Growing in a line,
Did you see him blink? Then golden blossoms opened out
Black bats flying overhead Along the vine.
Shadows black as ink. And then something grew and Grew AND GREW!
The biggest ever seen!
Black and gold, black and gold, And now I have a pumpkin-
Nothing in between, Just in time for Halloween!
When the world turns black and gold,
Then its Halloween.

(To the tune of Found a Peanut)

I had a pumpkin, a big fat pumpkin
What Will I Be? It was growing on a vine.
Should I be a hula dancer, Than I carved a jack-0-lantern
Should I be a clown? and it turned out just fine."
I could be a robot
Or a lady in a gown. I had a pumpkin, a little pumpkin,
I gave it two big round eyes.
I could be Frankenstein I cut a round and tiny nose
He was really mean, and a great big mouth that smiles.
Or I could be a cowboy Now I hide behind a bush and
On this Halloween. I wait until it's dark.
Then when someone comes along
Should I be a devil UP I JUMP!
Or a ghost in a big sheet? BOO I SHOUT!
When I go door to door What a surprise!
Asking Trick or treat?

Ghosts Night Out

Ghosts go out
On Halloween night.
They play tricks on people
And give them a fright.

They rattle their chains

And moan 'till its light.
They have so-o-o much fun
10 On Halloween night.
One Night a Year October means it's Hallowe'en
One night a year the goblins take flight, When pumpkins don their faces,
And all the ghosts go bump in the night And mans and groans and rattling bones
While skeletons rattle their bones 'till it's light. Are heard in haunted places.
But don't be afraid...it's just Halloween night!
When witches in their pointed hats
Go riding on their brooms,
And nighttime wears a velvet cloak
Midnight Of mystery and doom.
The clock strikes twelve on Halloween night.
The goblins are ready to take off in flight! When graveyards start to come alive
The bats are all circling the bell tower light. With spirits of the dead,
Don't forget it's Halloween night! It's such a lovely time of year
I think I'll stay in bed.

We Three The Goblin

We three went out on Halloween. A goblin lives in our house,
A Pirate In our house, in our house,
An Ape A goblin lives in our house,
A Witch between. All the year round.
We went from door to door.
He bumps, he jumps,
By the light of the moon And he stumps,
these shadows were seen. He knocks and he rocks,
A Pirate And he rattles at the locks.
An Ape
A Witch between A goblin lives in our house,
and-- In our house, in our house,
Say, how did we get to be FOUR? A goblin lives in our house
All the year round.

Do You Know It's Halloween?

Oh, do you know it's Halloween,
Halloween, Halloween?
Oh, Do you know it's Halloween,
This October day?
What to be for Halloween
A hobo or a bride? Ghosts and goblins are at play,
A witch or scary goblin, Are at play, are at play.
Its not easy to decide. Ghosts and goblins are at play,
This October day.

Once I had a Pumpkin
(tune: Did you ever see a Lassie)
Oh, once I had a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin
Oh, once I had a pumpkin, with no face at all.
With no eyes and no nose
And no mouth and no teeth
Oh, once I had a pumpkin with no face at all.

So, I made a jack o lantern, jack o lantern,

jack o lantern
So, I made a jack o lantern with a big funny face
With big eyes and big nose
And big mouth and big teeth
So, I made a jack o lantern with a big funny face.

Halloween Pumpkin
Carve your pumpkin with a face really mean.
Set it outside in a place to be seen,
For it scares away ghosts, goblins, and more.
You might want to put it right next to your door!
Most important of all on this Halloween night,
Have lots of fun and turn on the light!

Most of these poems have been in primary classrooms for 50 years,

add any poem that has a known author.
