Learning Objectives
This coursework test students understanding and appreciation of the law as it requires
students to read, understand, summarize and extract the important issues from actual
cases.
This coursework tests students research abilities as a good answer will require students
to look into the actual wording of the legislations, the Hansard, other research papers
behind the provisions, books and actual cases, and keep all of this current.
Multiple secondary sources of the law need to be looked into for the students to gather
the required information.
There is a word limit imposed. This will encourage students to articulate themselves in a
concise and precise manner, thus developing a very important and useful skill every
legal practitioner needs.
The main ideas that go into this coursework are available in any reference book. It
simply is a matter of understanding the question and framing the coursework
strategically.

Common Law Reasoning

Recent cases of juror misconduct raises serious questions about jury trials. To
what extent does this undermine the confidence in the jury system and
critically evaluate the reforms made to overcome these problems.

c) Word count should not exceed 3000 words. An allowance of +/- 100 words is allowed.

2. Every coursework submitted MUST include:
a) Submission sheet (made available in the CMS)
b) The general instructions and question page made available in the CMS
c) Turn It In report
d) Candidates answer together with Bibliography and Footnotes
e) Word count (soon after the final line of the coursework & AT THE COVER PAGE))
f) Bibliography

3. Coursework will NOT be assessed and will be returned to the candidate if:
a) the softcopy of the coursework is not submitted via email cw@bac.edu.my
b) the candidates name is stated on the coursework;
c) no references (footnotes and bibliography) are provided in the coursework.
d) the coursework is not accompanied with the cover page stating the candidates IC and ID numbers.

4. In order to sit for the exams, students have to obtain a minimum marks of ten (10) for the coursework.

5. Make sure you know what you have to do and keep to deadlines for the submission of assessed work.
Failure to do so may result in one or more of the following:
a) marks lost for late or non-submission of coursework, possibly leading to a zero mark with no
opportunity to represent;

Note: In Year 2 if you fail a module overall because of late or non-submission of assessed work, you MAY be
denied a re-sit at any time in the future. Even if you are allowed to re-sit the highest mark you may achieve is
40.

b) exclusion from the exams;
