CALL FOR PAPERS
Centre for Informal Sector and Labour
Studies, School of Social Sciences,
Jawaharlal Nehru University is organis-
ing an International Conference on Land
and Labour Questions in the Global
South. The proposed international confer-
ence will bring together the scholars and
activists of the Global South in order to
honour the memory of Professor Sam
Moyo. Approximately 40 well known
scholars from India and Abroad have
been invited to the conference and most
of them have already confirmed their
participation. Along with them, the
conference will also provide an oppor-
tunity to about 6 to 8 selected Indian
Young Scholars to present their research
work. The host will arrange the accom-
modation, food and travel of the authors
of the accepted papers.

1. Land and Labour Questions in the Global South: The-
oretical frameworks and perspectives
2. Mapping the new scramble for land and its impact on
restructuring the agrarian regimes in the Global south
especially in the wake of the growing importance of
finance capital and credit.
3. The impact of global finance capital and national
credit policies on agricultural investments, credit and
livelihoods.
4. Neo-liberalism and the changing labour relations
within the rural economies in diverse National con-
texts and its interface with finance capital and credit
policies on changing agrarian markets and relations
like debt bondage, contract farming etc.
5. Impact of gender, race, caste and ethnicity on process-
es of dispossession, semi-proletarianisation and pro-
letarianisation in the Global South.
6. Relevant challenges and policy issues central to de-
cent structural transformation, sustainable employ-
ment creation and social protection along the trajec-
tories of equitable and inclusive development.
7. In-depth analysis and research on an on-going basis
for deepening of the appropriate policy agenda.
8. Mapping the patterns of resistance and constructive
alternatives for achieving decent structural changes
and egalitarian labour processes.
9. Critical challenges and issues for political and social
mobilization and organization required to advance
towards the above noted agenda in the light of in-
creasing farmers agitations.
