Patruls Dedication to Practice

Patruls heart-disciple Nyoshul Lungtok told his own disciples that

Patrul practiced mind training (lojong) as a part of every session of
meditation.
Nyoshul Lungtok said that Patrul practiced with such ferocity that
he sometimes struck his chest with his fists, shouting, Ill get this
right, even if it kills me!65

PATRUL PASSED many years in Golok, perhaps as many as ten. His spent his
time in each of the four valleys: Markhok, Dokhok, Serta, and Dzika.
The 1st Dodrupchen had established a forty-five-day annual teaching and
practice session on the Guhyagarbha Tantra. Patrul received the teachings
and was also asked to be the teaching assistant, the tutor who helps the
students review in the afternoon the teachings given in the morning.
Following this, for the next two years, when Shenphen Thaye couldnt be at
Yarlung, Patrul himself led the forty-five-day annual teaching and practice
session.
The monks studied the commentary written by Minling Lochen66 and
chanted the root tantra by heart every day. The 3rd Dodrupchen later
remarked, Thanks to Shenphen Thaye and Patrul, those teachings on the
Guhyagarbha Tantra brought the tradition of Vajrayana to this area, like the
sunlight shining through cracks in the clouds.
At Yarlung Monastery,67 Patrul Rinpoche established an annual tradition of
month-long teaching on The Way of the Bodhisattva while practicing it at the
same time.
