Section 1: INTRODUCTION

This course is normally taken by students to get experience with the


industrial work. The student will write formal report in this training program, under
the supervision of sponsoring expert member. The interest generated in taken such
a training of this nature and the practical benefits are measurable.

In this report, I would like to shed more light on what I have observed and
dealt with. First, I handle some information about S-Chem through company
profile and about S-Chem. Then, I will move on some facilities under JCP
operation .after that, some information from MSDS will be shown .then, I will talk
about what was my program during the training. Finally, I will end up with some
conclusion.
Section 2: COMPANY PROFILE

S-Chem: World-Class Operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC, through a wholly-owned affiliate


(Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company Ltd.), has joint venture
projects with the Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) in the Eastern Province
industrial city of Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Chevron Phillips Company (SCP),
Jubail Chevron Phillips Company (JCP) and Saudi Polymers Company (SPCo).
Collectively, these projects are known as S-Chem.

SCP began operations in December 1999 and produces benzene, cyclohexane and
gasoline blend stocks. The facilitys performance in environmental excellence has
been recognized by the Royal Commission of Jubail as a past recipient of the
Royal Commission Environmental Award among primary industries. SCP was also
the first private sector investment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabias petrochemical
industry. The facility is owned 50 percent by Arabian Chevron Phillips
Petrochemical Company Ltd. and 50 percent by the Saudi Industrial Investment
Group.

JCP is another Saudi project located in the Eastern Province city of Al-Jubail. This
facility produces benzene, ethyl benzene, styrene, and propylene, and began
commercial production during the second half of 2008. JCP is owned 50 percent by
Arabian Chevron Phillips Petrochemical Company Ltd. and 50 percent by the
Saudi Industrial Investment Group.

SPCo is currently developing and constructing the NCP project. The NCP project
represents the next major strategic investment to build on successes thus far in the
region.

Once complete, Saudi Polymers NCP project will include a world-class olefins
cracker and will produce ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene,
polystyrene and 1-hexene. SPCo began construction in January 2008, with
mechanical completion expected in early 2011. Commercial production is
scheduled to begin in 4th Quarter 2011.

Section 3: DETAILS OF TRAINING EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED

3.1 Nature of work:

Chevron Phillips Company is one of the most successful companies around the world. It has three

projects in Saudi Arabia located in Jubail industrial city:

First: Saudi Chevron Phillips (SCP) that manufactures (Benzene, Mogas and Cyclohexane).

Second: Jubail Chevron Phillips (JCP) which where I did my COOP program. It manufactures

Ethylene, from hydrocarbon feed Supplied by ARAMCO Company. JCP also manufacture Styrene

by using the ethylene.

Third: Saudi Polymer Company (SPCo) that manufactures (Polyethylene and Polypropylene, etc.)
3.2 Safety procedures:

Safety Equipment:
Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize
exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and
illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or
other workplace hazards. Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves,
safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full
body suits.
Most of the PPEs used are as follow;

1. Hard hat/Helmet For head protection

2. Face shield/goggles for eyes protection

3. Ear muffs/Ear plugs for ear protection

4. Coveralls/Lab coat for body protection

5. Gloves for hand protection

6. Safety shoes for feet protection

In S-Chem the safety department they are following all safety rules and all Personal Protective
Equipment. Some of the PPE that you have to wear it inside the plant;:
Hard Hat : To product the head (Fig 2.1)

Safety Shoes: To protect the Foot (Fig 2.2)


Safety Goggles: To protect the Eyes (Fig 2.3)

Safety Ear Plug: To protect the Ear (Fig 2.4)

Dust Protection Safety Mask: To product the Nose (Fig 2.5)

Overall Safety Wear: it must be flame resistance (Fig 2.6)


Safety Gloves: (Fig 2.7)
3.3 Skills learned:

I learned about the basic operation of the plant. The important skills I learned in the plant is Safety

procedures.
Section 4: CONCLUSION

From this cooperative work in JCP Company, I can conclude that I have learned how I can follow the safety

procedure when I do my job and I can use the personal protective equipment (PPE) when I do the job.

I have understood how the plant processes are going on. In addition; I have learned that how I can deal

with equipment in the industry of different types and sizes, such pumps, filter, and many types of valves,

etc. Also, this program learns me and guides me to be able to work in the plant safely, skillfully and

successfully.

Finally, I would like to thanks the company, superintend, shift leader and operators for their cooperative with

me during this program in the company.
