Goal 1 Action Steps

Teachers will review the four pillars of our HALOS (Honoring Aspiring Learners and Outstanding Students)
program
o What does the word mean?
o What does each character trait look like?
o What does each character trait sound like?

Teachers will review expectations in different locations where Below the Line slips have been given.
o Practice walking in the halls without talking.
o Practice scraping lunch tray in the lunchroom.
o Practice/role play using kind words to another students.
o Make a list and post it in locker reminding what materials are needed for each middle school class.
o Practice/role play of waiting until it is a speaker is done sharing their thoughts in the classroom.
o Practice washing hands quietly in the hallway after using the restroom.
o Practice using outside equipment appropriately.

Teachers will review monthly Below the Line totals and look at overall patterns in specific areas/specific
students of concern.

Teachers will meet as an entire staff and discuss strategies to minimize Below the Line entries in certain
areas (classroom, hallway, recess, etc.)

Teachers will discuss what visuals can be displayed to remind students of appropriate behaviors in all parts
of the building.

Principal will share results of positive behavior improvement results with faculty, staff, students, and parents
and celebrate achievements!

Elementary students will place their HALOS in a bucket at the end of each month for monthly drawings.
20-25 small prizes are given to students when their name is selected from the bucket.

Middle school students accrue HALOS during each trimester. At the end of each trimester, middle school
students can bid on 50-60 prizes in a silent/live auction. There are also cash and carry items such as pencils,
pens, granola bars, Root beer float or ice cream sundae parties that can be purchased for a set number of
HALOS.

School Improvement Budget (District Funds)

Our HALOS program is funded by donations, purchases made

by parent volunteers, principal, and assistant principal. There is
no expense line in our budget for this PBIS program.

Reflection:

This assignment gave me a chance to see how our behaviors have decreased over the years. I looked at the
different types of behaviors and the pillars associated with it. I noticed some Below the Line slips infractions could have
been under another pillar. For example, under the safety pillar, a teacher had issued a Below the Line infraction for not
having their hat for outside recess; this could have been a responsibility piece. I noticed the beginning of the year
responsibility infractions had increased (as would be expected), but overall decrease was an indicator that our program is
working. I also noticed one or two teachers used the Below the Line infractions minimally, or not at all. This part to me is
ineffective. It makes it difficult for the next grade level teacher to have to address behaviors that could have been
addressed. I have also observed a teacher give Below the Line infractions because in her words, I am crabby today. and
no tolerances for any miniscule behavior.

Something we have not implemented is celebrating our increase in positive behaviors. This is an achievement that
should celebrated.

I did not add math and literacy goals as part of my school improvement plan as we are at or above 85% for tier
one. We have five current Individualized Service Plans and one 504 out of 114 students in grades PREKINDER-eight. I
still believe reading and math goals are critical to review and adjust. I believe this can be incorporated through PLC
collaboration time.
