Abstract

Introduction : Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women with five-year

survival rates below 45%. The most common extra-abdominal metastases site of disease is

the pleural space. Other frequent sites of distant metastatic include the liver, lung

parenchyma, pericardium, bone, and brain. Metastatic disease to the thyroid gland occurring

in 3 to 15% of patients.

Case Reports : A 46 years old woman, presented an abdominal and left colli enlargement.

The CA-125 value was 550 units/ml. The abdominal ultrasound revealed a solid and cystic

mass from ovarium with papillary growth inside the cystic component. The abdominal CECT

scans demonstrated an ovarian mass that extended to posterior wall of uterine with paraaortic

and bilateral parailiaca lymphadenopathy. The histopathologys result was confirmed as

serous adenocarcinoma. An ultrasound and neck CECT scan finding was a solid left thyroid

mass, and fine-needle aspiration cytology result was undiffrentiated metastasis

adenocarcinoma.

Discussion : The patient had high grade serous adenocarcinoma ovarian cancer, the extension

to pelvic organ and distant metastases to thyroid gland proved the malignity of the cancer.

Both ovarian and thyroid gland are organs with hormones receptors, an involvement of

nonresectable thyroid mass would impact the prognosis.

Conclusion : Determining ovarian mass as malignancy is important, evaluating tumors

extension and its metastases had been an important role for radiologist. Due to hormone

related organ, we need to include thyroid gland assestment in ovarian malignancy workup.
