By the end of this activity, students will be able to:
Name a shape based on a given number of sides
Give the number of sides of a polygon based on
its name
Names with Numbers
Think of words or names that have a number implied,
such as wheeled transportation: unicycle, bicycle, tricycle,
quadricycle (quad for off-roading), quadricopter...
Create a table:
Number Prefix Example
Have students come up to the board to fill in the table
with their warm-up answers (volunteer basis)
(pass out playing cards for group discussion)
Apply these names to the shapes based on the
playing card youve been given
Discuss special cases
(triangle vs. triagon & quadrilateral vs.
quadragon)
Challenge: dodecagon=12 (do=2, dec=10)
