The goal of environmentalists has been to improve and protect the natural environment. One of their
major missions is to reduce the air pollution. Periodic measurements of Air Quality data especially the
calculation of air pollutant concentrations along with other data captured at various places and the
analysis of it can be one of the inputs for environmentalists to work towards their goal to restore natures
assets and maintain an ecological balance.

Project Description
In this project you will be using the dataset which has hourly measurements of air pollutant
concentrations, wind speed, and wind direction collected at the Marylebone (London) air
quality monitoring supersite between 1st January 1998 and 23rd June 2005 (source: London
Air Quality Archive; http://www.londonair.org.uk). The same dataset is available to be
downloaded as a .csv file from the Open air website (http://www.openair-
project.org/CSV/OpenAir_example_data_long.csv).
The openair package in R provides the necessary functions to do analysis of the Air Quality
dataset. An analysis should be carried out on the given dataset using R and the observations
and conclusions to be put in the form of a visual plot or graph. Clustering is one of the data
mining techniques used to group a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group
(called a cluster) are more similar (in some sense or another) to each other than to those in
other groups (clusters). There are many techniques or algorithms for clustering, you can use
k-means technique to find the clusters. Although, you can use any other clustering techniques
too. You could also use any other data mining technique also to do the analysis. Show the
analysis in the form of a visual graph or a plot.

Project Description
Bangalore could soon become a concrete city. Bangalore has lost around 50,000 trees in recent years to
infrastructure development and nearly 300 more will soon go for the Metro rail project. Environmentalists
and citizens fear that rampant felling could cost the city its 'green heritage' tag. Their fear is supported by
heaps of logs of axed trees and tree stumps dotting roads across Bangalore.
As many as 279 more trees will soon be axed down for 'Namma Metro' - the upcoming metro rail in
central Bangalore, especially near the legislative assembly building Vidhana Soudha and Central College
roads. In the past two to three years alone, Bangalore has lost around 50,000 trees, felled for
developmental activities, states a report of the Environment Support Group (ESG). Also, not only has the
city's green beauty been destroyed due to developmental work, but the loss of green cover is also
harming the Karnataka capital's climate. Bangalores weather is changing fast and is no more pleasant as
it was earlier. If trees continue to be chopped off rapidly, the city's average temperature will rise by two-
three degrees Celsius in the coming years.
We want you to create awareness amongst Bangaloreans about the loss of vegetation in Bangalore and
inspire them to do their bit towards restoring vegetation.
Project Tasks
Task 0 : Research and Analysis
Identify the main causes of loss of vegetation in Bangalore. Back your research with facts and figures.
> Propose the most relevant solution & the cost involved in its implementation

Problem Statement
Almost all failed companies have a product. What failed companies don't have are enough customers.
Identifying and understand your target audience, understanding and articulating your products features
and capabilities in the context of their problems, and walking with your clients through the decision
making journey is critical to closing a sale. You are a business development executive with a software
product startup that sells Learning Management Systems to colleges. You will have to prepare all
requisite materials for a pitch to a prospective client and record a sales pitch as part of this project.

Project Description
Persistence and dilligence are of great importance for business development (BD) but prior prep goes a
long way in ensuring a favorable outcome. The key difference between a BD exec and a salesman is deep
understanding of the client's business and pain points, and how the product aleviates those pain points.
This project is focused on learning and demonstrating key skills around prepping a sales pitch and
delivering it. You will be required to study the client, the market, and the product features. You will
create a sales pitch and record it for an industry expert review.
This a great primer on what skills are expected from a business development executive.

Project Tasks
Task 0 : Create a product brief and feature list
Study the product documentation to create a product brief and a feature list. These will be critical tools in
your endeavour to create a winning sales pitch. We will be using Canvas (link provided) as a guinea pig
for our experiment here - lets pretend this is the LMS we are trying to sell to a college.
Resources: Available on enrollment
Task 1 : Create a client profile
Pick a potential client and create a profile for them. This should include a brief description of what they
do (whats their business), which courses do they teach, how they are ranked, how many students total and
in each course, recent news about them, key pain points and problems, any other interesting facts. It
should also include a brief conclusion on why you think they are a good propect to pursue. If you can find
any specific reasons why they will be interested in your product list that explicitly. (Hint: most of this
information should be available on their website).
Resources: Available on enrollment
Task 2 : Create a market research report
Study leading competitors in the same industry and product space as you (Learning Management
Systems). Create a comparison of features based on the feature list you have already created in task 1.
Also investigate areas where your competitors' products are starkly better or worse than yours. This will
help you during the sales pitch - you don't want to be surprised when the clients ask you a tough question
about your competitor's product.
Resources: Available on enrollment
Task 3 : Create a script for your client visit
Now that you are done with your product and market research bring it all together to write a script for
your sales pitch. These will be your opening 5 minutes with the client - what will you say to the client that
gets them interested and hooked? Your script should have the following things in it - introductions, what
are you selling (summary of key features), why should the audience care (summary of problems you will
solve for them).
Resources: Available on enrollment
Task 4 : Fill out an FAQ document
This task is in preparation for answering the questions your prospective client will ask you. The FAQ
document creates a short script for answering the most frequently asked questions - this ensures you will
be prepared and not make up answers on the run. You can also leave a copy behind with the client when
you leave. Write clear, bulleted answers to each of the questions. Questions to answer in the FAQ - why
should I invest in an LMS? How will my students benefit? How will my professors benefit? how are your
other colleges benefiting from implementing an LMS? will this save me any money in the long run?
Resources: Available on enrollment
Task 5 : Simulate a visit
Record a video of your sales pitch and answers to any 2 questions from the FAQ (pick any two that you
are most comfortable answering). Focus on the quality of your sales pitch and your delivery. Dont worry
about the quality of the recording itself - feel free to use your cellphone for the recording. Its ok to record
multiple videos and pick the best one to upload. Upload your video to youtube and share the link as part
of your project submission.
Resources: Available on enrollment
Submission Guide
1. Google drive or google docs for the product brief, feature list, client profile,
market research, sales pitch, and FAQ document
2. Upload your sales pitch and questions video on youtube or vimeo and share a
link to it
Evaluation Criteria
1. Thoroughness of research for the product brief, feature list, client profile, and market research
2. Verbal communication skills - succinctness, comprehensiveness, and convincing capabilities of
the sales pitch and questions video. How calm and composed do you appear, are you enunciating
and articulating well, etc.
