NOTES:
2 For each channel, an IS-CHARMs Terminal Base is installed that provides field wiring connection of either
screw, spring clamp or both. Each IS-CHARMs Baseplate provides a physical latching mechanism that
secures each IS-CHARMs.
The IS-CHARMs must only be used with IS-CHARMs Terminal bases mounted on the IS-CHARMs
Baseplate. The IS-CHARMS-TC and LS IS TC CHARMS must only be used with the TC Terminal Base
(KL4510X1-HA1). A Terminal base must not necessary be fitted with an I/O Module.
The IS-CHARM must not be inserted or removed with the system energized, they are not hot pluggable.
Once installed the IS-CHARM and the Terminal Base pair assumes the entity parameters of the IS-
CHARM for that position. The field wiring must be disconnected before changing to a different IS-
CHARMs type.
Torque Requirements for CHARM Terminal Screws:
CHARM terminals 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)
3 The modules are addressed by one Address Plug on each IS-CHARMs Baseplate. No additional circuits
must be connected to the terminals of the Address Plug.
4 Where multiple circuits extend from the same piece of associated apparatus, they must be installed in
separate cables or in one cable having suitable insulation. Refer to Article 504.30(B) of the National
Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) and Instrument Society of America Recommended Practice ISA RP12.6
for installing intrinsically safe equipment.
5 Intrinsically safe circuits must be wired and separated in accordance with Article 504.20 of the National
Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) or other local codes, as applicable.
6 The equipment must be installed in an enclosure or location providing a degree of protection from dust
and water which is equivalent to IP54 or better. The enclosure must be suitable for the application in
accordance with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) for installation in the United States, the
Canadian Electrical Code for installations in Canada, or other local codes, as applicable.
7 The Subsystem must be supplied by a SELV / PELV or class 2 power supply with a maximum d.c. voltage
of Um = 40VDC at the edge connectors. These edge connectors serve as the interconnection between
IS-CHARMs Subsystem and IS-CHARMs Subsystem or IS-CHARMs Subsystem and Standard CHARMs
Subsystem.
Both of the 24V power inputs must be protected by a fuse with a breaking capacity of 1500 Amps per IEC
60127 or UL248-1. The fuse holder and the fuse must meet the requirements of IEC 60079-11.
Do not disconnect or connect fuses unless the power supply is de-energized or the location is known to
be non-hazardous. The fuse must be replaceable only by opening the fuse holder. A label showing the
fuse type and fuse characteristics must be mounted adjacent to each of the fuses.
This can be achieved by fuse holder KL4510X1-GA1 (55P2109X012) and fuse KL4510X1-FA1
(55P2108X012).
Provision shall be made externally to the equipment to provide transient protection at a level
not exceeding 140% of the peak rated voltage value of 85V.
8 The ambient operating temperature (Tamb) for this Subsystem is -40C to +70C.
9
The Baseplate terminals can be used to connect a cable screen of the field wiring. The screen bar itself
must be connected to the equipotential bonding system of the hazardous area.
When several Baseplates are connected together only one connection to the equipotential bonding
system of the hazardous area is required. This is also true for mixed applications with IS-
CHARMS Baseplates and Standard CHARMS Baseplates.
However when an extender cable is used a second connection to the equipotential bonding system of the
hazardous area is required to the Baseplates after the extender cable.
Torque Requirements for CHARM Terminal Screws:
CHARM terminals 0.45 Nm (4 in-lb)
10
IS distances must be observed in all cases. Therefore the separation wall KL4501X1-CA1 (12P5807)
from Fisher-Rosemount Systems, Inc. / Emerson Process Management must be installed on each side of
the IS Baseplate.
11
No additional field circuits with Um higher than 40V can be connected to Standard CHARMs when used
in combination with the IS-CHARM Subsystem.
Provision shall be made externally to the equipment to provide transient protection at a level
not exceeding 140% of the peak rated voltage value of 85V.
The communication network must have a prospective fault current of < 100A.
WARNING: Explosion Hazard. Do not disconnect equipment unless power has been switched off or the
area is known to be free of ignitable concentrations.
WARNING: Substitution of components may impair intrinsic safety and suitability for Division 2/ Zone 2
hazardous Locations.
