I/O Module
Base plate
NOTES:
1 The output current of this I/O Module is limited by a resistor. Therefore the IS output has a linear characteristic.
The Entity Concept allows interconnection of intrinsically safe apparatus with associated apparatus not specifically
examined in combination as a system when the approved values of Uo (Voc) and Io (Isc) for the associated apparatus are
less than or equal to Ui (Vmax) and Ii (Imax) for the intrinsically safe apparatus.
Capacitance and inductance of the field wiring between intrinsically safe equipment and the associated apparatus shall be
calculated and must be included in the system calculations. Cable capacitance Ccable plus intrinsically safe equipment
capacitance Ci must be less than the capacitance Co (Ca), marked on any connected associated apparatus. The same
applies for the values for inductance (Lcable, Li and Lo or La respectively). Where the cable capacitance and inductance per
foot are not known, the following values shall be used: Ccable = 60 pF/ft., Lcable = 0.2 H/ft.
2 This I/O Module may also be connected to simple apparatus as defined in Article 504.2 and installed and temperature
classified in accordance with Article 504.10(B) of the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70), or other local codes, as
applicable.
3 The installer shall ensure that the prospective fault current associated with the communication network (Ethernet) shall not
be capable of exceeding 100A.
The I/O Modules must be used with IS-CHARM Terminal Bases (KL4510X1-DA1) except the IS-CHARMS-TC and LS IS
TC CHARMS (KL3105X1-BA1 and KL3105X1-LS1), which must be used with the specific TC Terminal Base (KL4510X1-
HA1) to ensure the following entity parameters.

* Ci and Li are negligible for all model types.
The values of Lo and Co listed in the table above are allowed if one of the following conditions is met:
- The total Li of the external circuit (excluding the cable) is < 1% of the Lo (La) value or
- The total Ci of the external circuit (excluding the cable) is < 1% of the Co (Ca) value.
The values of Lo and Co listed in the table above shall be reduced to 50% when both of the following conditions are met:
- the total Li of the external circuit (excluding the cable) is > 1% of the Lo (La) value and
- the total Ci of the external circuit (excluding the cable) is > 1% of the Co (Ca) value.
Note: the reduced capacitance of the external circuit (including cable) shall not be greater than 1F for IIA and IIB and 600nF for IIC.
