DEPARTMENT: COMPUTER SCIENCE

PROGRAM: COMPUTING WITH ACCOUNTING

1)

i. ENIAC - Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer.

ii. UNIVAC - Universal Automatic Computer.
iii. RAM Random Access Memory.
iv. LARC Livermore Automatic Research Computer.
v. EDVAC Electronic Discrete Variable And Computer.
vi. IBM International Business Machines.
vii. ROM Read Only Memory.

2) Information Processing Cycle can be defined as the sequence of events in processing information,
which includes inputs, processing, storage and output and a fifth stage is often attributed to this cycle,
which is the achieving or deleting of unwanted data.

3) Difference between ROM and RAM are as follows;

RAM is a type of volatile memory. That is, data in RAM is not permanently off your computer when data
stored in the computer is delated. While in ROM, is non-volatile. That is, data in ROM is permanently
written and is not erased when power is off in your computer.

Also, RAM is the memory available for the operating system, programs and processes to use when the
computer is running. While ROM is the memory that comes with your computer that is pre-written to
hold the instructions for booting-up the computer.

4) Characteristics of a computer are as follows;

i. Speed: That is, the computer can solve more complex problems faster which human could have
use so many hours or days to solve.
ii. Storage: This means that, the computer can be used to store mass storage of data without making
any changes on that data until instructions are been given by the user to the computer before
changes can be made.
iii. Diligence: This means that, the computer can work for hours without any break or creating errors
unlike human.
iv. No Feelings: This means that, the computer does not have any feelings, knowledge or experience.
So therefore, it has to be controlled by human.
v. Power of remembering: This means that, the computer cab be able to provide data which its user
cannot remember again.

5) The difference between a computer program and a computer software is that, a computer program is
a list of instructions that tells a computer what to do. So therefore, it is written in programming language.
While a computer software is a set of instructions and associate documentation that tells a computer
what to do or how to perform task or it can mean all the software on a computer, including the
applications and the operating system.
