Offering a lovely glimpse of the citys past, Hotel Martins Klooster is
located in the heart of Leuvens historical centre, near the train station and
the iconic Oude Markt. A former monastery built in 1531, it rose from its
ashes in 2003 in the form of a boutique hotel. It provides a unique setting
for a hotel with its 103 guestrooms, three meeting rooms, an Orangery and
a conference centre.
Patrick Aubrion, who has perfected his technique with renowned
chocolatiers and pastry makers like Fauchon, De Baere and
Marcolini, opened his gourmet shop in 2014. Inside this veritable
true paradise, you will find a range of fine pastries and other
confectioneries, all created according to the rules of the art and

Begin 2017 namen Katelijne Vandenbroeck
en Carl Bollens, een ondernemend koppel
uit Herent het Leuvense Bar Louis over.
Het vertrouwde succesverhaal, weliswaar in
een opgefrist jasje. Samen met het gekende
keukenteam Stef & Gus gaan ze op zoek naar
nieuwe trendy ingredinten en elementen.

De Winge Golf, gelegen in Vlaams Brabant,
werd opgericht in 1988 en is veel meer dan
een golfclub. Deze golfbaan met 18 holes,

Restaurant Arenberg is located on a six-acre

The Neo case is being unveiled this year in
a new diameter, enlarged to 40 mm. Here, in
stainless steel, this new Neo features an ivory
lacquered dial enhanced by a thin bezel. At its
heart lies a Swiss-made automatic movement that
builds up a 38-hour power reserve.

Baume & Mercier / My Classima

Classima slaat een geheel nieuwe weg in met
de productlijn My Classima die stilstaat bij de
hoogtepunten van het leven. Op de achterkant
van de gesloten kast van deze nieuwe
tijdbewaker van staal met een diameter van
40 mm kan namelijk een tekst, een datum of
iets anders worden gegraveerd. Het horloge
wordt door een kwartsuurwerk aangedreven.

My Classima line, which celebrates lifes greatest
moments. In fact, the closed caseback of this new
steel timepiece measuring 40 mm in diameter allows
you to engrave a message, a date, etc. It is powered by
a quartz movement.

Deze Manufacture versie van het model Slim
van Herms is uitgerust met een in-house
Herms H1950 uurwerk en een 42-uurs
gangreserve. Het model is bekleed met een
semi-decoratie van H symbolen tegen een
saffieren achtergrond. Hiernaast het model

dHerms model is equipped with the
in-house Herms H1950 movement with
a 42-hour power reserve. The movement
itself is decorated with an H-pattern visible
through the sapphire caseback. Opposite,

version, and in matte to boot. Its
45 mm diameter case envelops the collections
characteristic skeletonised dial, with a
date window located at half past three. It is
equipped with automatic calibre Heuer 01
with a 50-hour power reserve.

DE LEGENDARISCHE NAVITIMER
Breitling werd in 1884 in de Zwitserse Jura opgericht. Het bedrijf heeft zich
vanaf het begin van de 20ste eeuw onderscheiden door zijn meetinstrumenten,
met name chronografen, meters en tellers. In 1952 lanceerde het bedrijf het
model Navitimer, het horloge dat bij piloten zeer gewild was en dat in
de loop van de jaren tot een waar symbool is uitgegroeid.

BREITLING: THE LEGENDARY NAVITIMER

Founded in 1884 in the Swiss Jura, Breitling is a watch manufacturer that has stood out
with its measurement instruments since the early 20th century, especially with its
chronographs and counters. In 1952, it launched the Navitimer model,
a favourite watch of pilots which over the years has become a true icon.

De geschiedenis van Breitling is altijd verbonden geweest met de luchtvaart,
wat we ook op een sierlijke manier in de vleugels van het logo terugvinden.
Sinds de jaren 30 heeft het horlogehuis boordchronografen ontwikkeld die
door hun prestaties en betrouwbaarheid goed bevielen. De Royal Air Force
verkoos Breitling tot hun officile leverancier tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog
en enkele jaren later zou de U.S Air Force hetzelfde doen. De horloges van het

The history of Breitling has always been linked to aeronautics as
evidenced by the pair of wings adorning its logo. In the 1930s, the
brand began developing on-board chronographs which, with their
outstanding performance and reliability, attracted the attention
of the Royal Air Force, who made Breitling its official supplier
during World War II, just as the US Air Force did several years
later. Its watches later became a standard in civil and commercial
aviation, thus earning Breitling the status in the 1950s and 60s as
the official supplier to worldwide aviation.

In 1952 werd de Navitimer, het emblematische horloge van Breitling,
gentroduceerd met als doel piloten een echt polsinstrument te bieden. Het
staat bekend om de cirkelvormige rekenliniaal waarmee alle gebruikelijke
handelingen tijdens de vlucht, zoals vermenigvuldigen en delen, omrekenen
van zeemijlen in kilometers en graden Fahrenheit in graden Celsius maar ook
tijdzones, toerenteller, brandstofverbruik, enz., kunnen worden verricht. De
AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), de grootste internationale

Released in 1952 to offer a true wrist instrument for pilots, the
Navitimer is Breitlings most emblematic watch. Known for
its circular slide rule which puts all calculations related to air
navigation at the tip of your finger (multiplication and division,
conversion from nautical miles to kilometres and from degrees
Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius, as well as time zones, tachymeter,
fuel consumption, etc.), it became the official watch of the Aircraft
Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the largest association
of its kind in the world. That is why the first Navitimer models
featured the AOPA logo. The Navitimer has been so successful
that it has been produced nonstop since it was created. It is now
available in several versions, including the GMT and World
models, and in several limited editions, such as the 1884 model
equipped with a calendar with a central hand to tell the date and
a double day/month window.

Breitling is ook actief betrokken bij het behoud van het luchtvaarterfgoed
en ondersteunt de restauratie van legendarische vliegtuigen, zoals de
Lockheed Super Constellation en de Douglas DC-3. Dit laatste vliegtuig met

Breitling is also highly active in the preservation of aeronautical
heritage, having helped to restore legendary aircrafts such as the
Lockheed Super Constellation and the Douglas DC-3. The latter,
a twin-engine propeller plane, took its first flight in 1935 and
revolutionised air transport, with most American and European
airlines at the time acquiring one as part of their fleet. The model
currently flying the colours of Breitling was built in 1940 and
early this year embarked upon a grand world tour to mark its
77th anniversary. A 500-piece limited edition watch, the
Navitimer Breitling DC-3, was also created for the occasion.

The Breitling Jet Team is currently comprised of seven fast and
powerful military training L-39C Albatros aircrafts, which are
piloted by professionals mainly from French fighter aviation.
Breitling is also a partner of major aeronautical events such as the
Red Bull Air Race, for which it has its own team.

Alles begon op een dag in 1963 toen Ole Lynggaard, een Deense
goudsmid en ontwerper van luxe juwelen, een klein atelier in het noorden

It all began in 1963 when Ole Lynggaard, a Danish goldsmith
and designer of fine jewellery, acquired a small workshop north
of Copenhagen to set up his own jewellery house. Ole Lynggaard
Copenhagen is a family-run business that is currently managed
by Ole Lynggaards son, Sren. Managing director of the company
since 2003, he is assisted by Michel Normann, his sister Charlottes
husband, while Charlotte serves as the companys creative director.
It was in 2008 that Hanna Lynggaard, Srens wife, joined the
adventure by heading up the sales and marketing team. The
Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen workshop is now one of the largest fine
jewellery workshops in Northern Europe, which is perhaps one of
the reasons why it was appointed Purveyor to the Royal Danish
Court in 2008.
Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen creations have always been inspired
by nature, as suggested by the names of the collections: Blooming,
Nature, Leaves, Golden Forest and even Lotus. The latter, drawing its
inspiration from the shape of the lotus flower, has been enormously
successful. It is created using cabochon-cut brilliantly-coloured
precious stones combined with 18-carat gold, either yellow, white
or sometimes rose. The Lotus ring has quickly become one of the
Scandinavian companys bestselling pieces because of the excellent
quality of the materials used, but also because of its practical
facet: its bud comes in three sizes and can be worn alone or in
combination with other pieces from the collection, thus ensuring
all women will find something to suit themselves here. Reflecting a
bohemian spirit, the design -the result of three years of work- was
created by Charlotte Lynggaard. Lotus is now comprised of over
3,000 pieces, including rings, pendants, earrings and necklaces.

Jewellery has always been a part of Charlotte
Lynggaards life. Today the creative director of
Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen, she continues on with
the family jewellery making tradition. A goldsmith
and jewellery designer in one, her golden hands
are the source of elegant and feminine creations.
She owes this creativity to her father, who is still
designing, sketching and creating jewellery by her
side. She draws her inspiration from her travels,
from women from other cultures and also, most
particularly, from nature. Japan is also a great
inspiration to her, as her father has travelled
extensively in Asia. For her, rings resemble flower
stems that intertwine around the fingers and are
adorned with fine stones. Charlotte Lynggaard
is also passionate about fashion, scenography
and interior design. A true expert on the subject,
her seaside home located a few kilometres from
Copenhagen has appeared in many publications
around the world. Black and white reign and are
enhanced by accents of materials or colours that
make all the difference.

Celebrated since the dawn of time, pearls bring joy to jewellery. The House of Schoeffel founded in
1921 by Wilhelm Schoeffel is now run by the fourth generation of the family. It holds a prominent
place in the very tight circle of the pearl industry with its ever more dazzling creations.
De koningin van de edelstenen in de oudheid toont zich met een
uitzonderlijke verfijning. Bij de Romeinen riepen ze zachtheid op en ze

De kwaliteit van de parels van Schoeffel worden door vijf factoren bepaald.

De iriserende kleur van de parel hangt af van de kwaliteit van de parelmoer
die de parel omhult en het is deze glans die het vermogen kenmerkt om het
licht te weerkaatsen dat op het oppervlak valt. Ook de vorm van de parel is
van grote invloed op zijn waarde net zoals de grootte: hoe groter de parel
des te hoger de waarde die zij krijgt. Tegenwoordig is nog steeds de meest

vormen zoals halfrond, ovaal of barok, met knopvorm, druppelvorm,
peervorm, enz. De kleur heeft geen invloed op de kwaliteit van de parel
maar wel op haar waarde: hoe zeldzamer de kleur, des te hoger de waarde.
Tot slot geldt ook in het algemeen dat de waarde van een parel toeneemt
naarmate het oppervlak minder defecten vertoont.

Five criteria are used to determine the quality of Schoeffel pearls.
Lustre is the most important criteria it gives a pearl its unique
appearance. Indeed, a pearls iridescence is a result of the quality of
the nacre coating it, and it is this sheen that determines its ability to
reflect surface light. The shape of a pearl also has a great influence on
its value. As does the size: the larger the pearl, the more valuable it is.
Even today, the most popular and most precious shape for a pearl is
perfectly round or spherical. Nevertheless, other shapes exist: semi-
round, oval, baroque, button, tear, pear, etc. The colour, meanwhile,
has little to do with the quality of a pearl, but it does influence its
value: the rarer the colour, the greater the value. Lastly, generally
speaking, the value of a pearl is higher the smoother the surface is.

komen te liggen.
De Baai van Archacon leeft op het ritme van eb en vloed en telt talloze
wetlands. Deze worden ook wel het groene goud van de baai genoemd
en bestaan uit moerassen en zoutwaterweiden. De natuurgebieden van
Lge-Cap Ferret en Ars beslaan een oppervlakte van meer dan 500
hectare en bezitten een zeldzame fauna en flora die het observeren meer
dan waard zijn. Dit landschap met rivieren, wadden, zandbanken en
Zin om niets te doen? Te midden van de bossen van Les Landes ligt het
meer van Cazaux met zijn weelderige natuur en idyllische kader waar

by the beauty and diversity of its natural surroundings, from the top of
the Dune of Pilat there is a breathtaking view with the ocean on one side
and an expansive pine forest on the other. The dune is always in motion,
moving several metres toward the forest every year, where it sometimes
releases vestiges of the past.
Living in tune with the tides, the Arcachon Bay has many wetlands.
Referred to as its green gold, they are comprised of marshes and
swamps. The nature reserves of Lge-Cap Ferret and Ars stretch over
more than 500 hectares and are home to unusual plants and animals that

Herms leather watch straps.
The story of Herms began in 1837 with the opening of a small
shop in Paris specialising in the manufacture of horse saddles and
bridles. The brand quickly became known in the world of luxury
saddlers and won a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1867.
Subsequently, in the early 1900s, when the pocket watch gave way
to the wristwatch, Herms had all the knowledge necessary to
make excellent straps.
Known for their superb quality, today Herms watch straps are
made by outstanding artisans at the companys workshops located
near Bienne in Switzerland. The leathers used are alligator, goat,
buffalo or ostrich, not to mention the iconic Barenia or the Epsom
stamped-grain leather so dear to Herms. There are currently
over 2,000 different shades of leather offered, including about
50 which are available for watch straps. From the initial cutting
of the leather to the last stitch, each stage of the manufacturing
process is conducted at the in-house workshops. Lastly, the final
touch consists of authenticating the strap with a letter indicating
the year of manufacture of the leather, as well as a geometric shape
identifying the most precious leathers. It is then stamped with the
companys logo or the makers mark. And FYI, it takes up to eight

edelsteenzetter snijdt het materiaal beetje voor beetje weg om de kern van
het metaal vrij te laten komen waar de steen in wordt gezet. Vervolgens
kiest hij de steen die perfect past bij de uitgesneden holte. Deze werkwijze
wordt voor elke steen afzonderlijk herhaald. Afhankelijk van het model
kiest de edelsteenzetter voor een pav- of chatonzetting, een bezelzetting
of onzichtbare zetting, een valse bezelzetting of kanaalzetting om slechts
de meest gangbare technieken te noemen.
De verschillende zettechnieken
Er bestaan verschillende technieken om edelstenen te zetten. Het
chatonzetten is een veel gebruikte methode waarmee de edelsteen het
meest tot zijn recht komt omdat hij grotendeels zichtbaar blijft. Bij deze
methode worden edelstenen tussen meerdere draadpoten of klauwen
ingezet, elke draadpoot draagt een steen en vervolgens worden deze
bijgeslepen zodat de steen blijft zitten. Deze techniek wordt met name
toegepast voor solitaire edelstenen. De pavzetting draagt middels
dunne, dicht bij elkaar geplaatste draadpoten meerdere kleine
edelstenen die het effect van een plaveisel aan het stuk geven. De
bezelzetting is een andere methode waarbij een metalen staafje op de
zetting van het sieraad wordt gesmeed en hier rond omheen worden
de edelstenen geplaatst. Bij de onzichtbare zetting worden de stenen
door metaal nagebootst. Ook worden vierkante edelstenen op een
strook metaal van dezelfde lengte gezet met behulp van minuscule
draadpootjes: dit is de valse bezelzetting. Tot slot de railzetting, die
vaak voor trouwringen met diamanten wordt gebruikt, waarbij de
stenen tussen twee parallelle groeven worden geplaatst. Verder zijn er
nog andere technieken zoals gladomzetting en barzetting.
De uurwerkindustrie doet hiervoor niet onder

tevens de vorm en functies. De soorten slijpsels (briljantslijpsel,
smaragdslijpsel, baguetteslijpsel, enz.) zijn van invloed op de vorm
van o.a. de kast, kapjes en armband.

A little history
Stone setting is a technique which dates back to Antiquity. The Egyptians
were the first to use this skill, as evidenced by the large number of pieces
they left behind which have inspired generations and generations of
jewellers. Nevertheless, it was with the development of the royal courts
of Europe and the major discoveries of America, among other events,
that precious stones found their way into the workshops of goldsmiths
and we began to speak of the art of jewellery making. Goldsmiths were
entrusted with rubies, emeralds and other sapphires whose brilliance
they had to enhance by attaching them to jewellery. To do so, they
developed many techniques that revolutionised the work of gold- and
silversmiths who had traditionally worked with precious metals.
The link between jeweller and lapidary
Patience and meticulousness are two of the main qualities required
to exercise the craft of stone setting. Using their talent to serve stones
and jewellery mountings, stone setters are a link between the jeweller,
who has previously created and prepared the piece of jewellery, and
the lapidary, who has cut the stone(s). They must also understand the
nature of the metal used for the mounting in order to know which type
of stone can be used for setting. The choice of stones is crucial: stones
must not only be as pure as possible, but must also be a perfect match in
terms of colour, cut and size so as not to hinder the beauty of the whole.
Once the number and position of the stones has been determined, each
piece is held in a wooden vise called a ring clamp and protected by a
layer of wax (called setters cement) that is heated to conform to the
shape and hold it properly. The stone setter sculpts the material in order
to gradually release the grain of metal offering its place to the stone. It is
then necessary to choose the stone that will precisely fit into the cavity
made. The procedure is thus repeated, stone by stone. Depending on
the model, the setter will choose a claw or prong, grain, bezel, invisible
or channel setting, to name just a few of the most common setting
techniques.
Stone setting also offers the advantage of allowing
jewellery to be repaired. Indeed, if a piece of jewellery
breaks due to a fall, it is possible to remove the stone
from the setting and then replace or repair it.
Different setting techniques
There are many types of settings, with prong setting as the method
most widely used to show off the stone to the best advantage as much
of the stone is exposed. The job of the setter consists of placing the
stone between several prongs, each of which hold the stone and are
then folded down over the stone to keep it in place. This technique is
commonly used for solitaires in particular. In grain setting, meanwhile,
many small stones are laid into a recess drilled into the stone, giving
the piece a pav effect. Bezel setting is a different technique that entails
inserting the stone into a bezel and rubbing the metal over the stone,
and in invisible setting, the stones appear to not be held with metal.
In an illusion head setting, the stone is held by prongs cut with a graver.
The edges, which are cut away to reveal more of the stone, can be raised
or pushed towards the base. Lastly, channel setting (which is often used
for engagement rings) involves placing the stones between two parallel
strips. There is also bulk setting and bar setting.
Watchmaking is no exception
In watchmaking, all the pieces of a watch can be set: the case, the dial,
the hands, the crown, the bridges, the plates, etc., provided that the
material is suitable. In addition, one should know that in a jewellery
watch, all the details of the piece are designed from the start according
to the work of the jeweller and the setter. Hence, stone setting is not
simply decoration, but rather an integral part of the watch, determining
both its shape and its functions. The types of cut (brilliant-cut,
emerald-cut, baguette-cut) will also influence the shape of the case,
the lugs, the bracelet, etc.

Like the flyback complication, the rattrapante is one of the complications
for measuring short time intervals. Chronograph watches equipped with
this function have an additional seconds hand in addition to the central

this function, which will stop the rattrapante seconds hand, while

From impressionism to surrealism
Ren Gislain Magritte was born on 21 November 1898 in Lessines,
Belgium. He took his first painting classes at a very young age and
created his first works in 1915, which are considered impressionist
works, just a few years after the suicide of his mother. He also met
Georgette Berger at this time, the woman he would marry in 1922.
He studied at the Acadmie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels from
1916 to 1918, where he mainly painted abstract paintings. Ren Magritte
geared toward surrealism in the early 1920s after seeing a painting by the
Italian artist Giorgio De Chirico. Discovering the work The Song of Love
shook things up for him and made him realise that it was possible to paint
thoughts. He subsequently moved to France, where he spent three years
in Paris alongside surrealists Andr Breton, Paul Eluard and Salvador

The very famous work The Son of Man, today held in a private collection,

his works, it forces the viewer to ask questions. Who is this man? Why is
this apple hiding his face? As Magritte asserted so well, Art evokes the
mystery without which the world would not exist. The work portrays a
man in front of a small brick wall with the sea in the background and a
grey cloudy sky and he is wearing a black coat, white shirt, red tie and
bowler hat. The face of the character, who is reminiscent of Magritte
himself as he always dressed this way, is largely concealed by a green
apple floating in the air. A recurring element in Magrittes works, this
fruit can also be found in the painting The House of Listening (1952).
The same goes for the character raining by the dozens in the work
Golconda (1953). Magritte also liked to associate his works with each
other. An example: the painting The Great War depicts who seems to be
the female counterpart of the character in The Son of Man.

Baume & Mercier has been celebrating the memory of Carroll Shelby
since 2015 with limited edition chronographs full of history and elegance.
For the first time, the maison is unveiling a chronograph that
is part of the Clifton collection.
Voordat Carroll Shelby (1923-2012) een bekende autoconstructeur

Zoals zijn voorgangers is deze nieuwe
chronograaf in beperkte oplage uitgebracht,
voorzien van een uniek nummer en in slechts
196 exemplaren. Dit aantal heeft een symbolische
waarde en verwijst naar het snelheidsrecord dat de
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coup in 1964 in Le Mans
in Frankrijk vestigde. Deze vermelding zien we ook
terug op de tachometrische schaal van de chronograaf.
De Clifton Club Shelby Cobra heeft een kast met
een diameter van 44 mm, vervaardigd van roestvrij
staal en titanium. Hierin is een automatisch Zwitsers
uurwerk ondergebracht dat beschikt over een flyback-
functie (met n druk op de resetknop wordt hiermee
de tijdmeting meteen op nul ingesteld). De chronograaf heeft een
wijzerplaat in twee kleuren, blauw en zilver, net zoals de achterkant
van de beroemde Shelby Cobra Daytona Coup. De wijzerplaat
is voorzien van drie wijzers: de uren- en de minutenwijzer zijn
bekleed met Super-LumiNova dat een blauw licht uitstraalt, en
de secondewijzer is uitgevoerd in felrood. Er zijn ook talrijke
verwijzingen naar de racewagen, zoals de drukknoppen die een
exacte replica zijn van de pedalen van de Daytona.
Before becoming a renowned automotive designer,
Carroll Shelby (1923-2012) was one of the most revered
drivers in America in the 1950s, when most notably he
won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 behind the wheel

Like its predecessors, this new
chronograph is a limited edition piece,
and in this case numbered as well, of
which only 196 units will be made. This
number is symbolic, as it refers to the speed
record of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coup in
1964 at Le Mans in France, and is shown on the
chronographs tachymeter scale. The Clifton
Club Shelby Cobra chronograph comes in a
44 mm case crafted in stainless steel and
titanium and is powered by a Swiss-made
manufacture self-winding movement with
the flyback chronograph function. It features a
two-tone dial (half blue/half silver) mirroring the tail
of the famous Shelby Cobra Daytona Coup. The dial
has three hands: the hour and minute hands coated in
Super-LumiNova blue emission and the chronograph
second hand in vivid red. There are many references to
the race car, like, for example, the push-buttons, which are
exact replicas of the foot pedals on the Daytona.

Voordat het een stedelijk museum werd, was het M-Museum ooit een
curiositeitenkabinet. In 1917 werd dit kabinet overgebracht naar de oude
privwoning van burgemeester Lopold Vander Kelen, dat op de resten van
het Savoye-college was gebouwd.
De collectie van het M-Museum kenmerkt zich door een grote rijkdom. In
200 jaar zijn meer dan 52.000 werken bijeengebracht, grotendeels afkomstig
uit de streken Leuven en Brabant en daterend uit de middeleeuwen tot
de 19e eeuw. De hedendaagse Belgische kunst na 1945 is eveneens goed
vertegenwoordigd en behelst schilder- en beeldhouwkunst, fotografie en
video en film. Het M-Museum biedt tevens performances, dansvoorstellingen
en architectuur om een steeds groter publiek te trekken. Het M-Museum ligt
in een aangenaam kader rondom een centrale binnentuin met een dakterras

The history of Longines began in 1832 with the founding of a
watchmakers concern (known as a comptoir dtablissage).
The museum, which was entirely renovated several years ago, is
located in the brands historical buildings, which also house the
headquarters and workshops in Saint-Imier. The Museum traces
the companys history and spotlights its watchmaking expertise
with numerous iconic watches and archives.

The Longines Museum is a true gold mine. Indeed, it is from it that Longines draws
its inspiration to reissue the most iconic timepieces from its history and thus bring joy
to all aficionados of watches from yesteryear. Making up the Heritage collection, these
undeniably vintage watches combine the look of their time with watchmaking technology
of today.

Every year, Longines highlights several facets of its ingenious watchmaking expertise. Along
these lines, it presented the Longines Heritage 1918 model with the emblematic design of
the early 20th century, echoing the first wristwatches created by the manufacturer. It also
released the Longines Railroad model, a celebration of the railway adventure. Inspired by
a watch developed in the 1960s created to meet precise requirements, its dial displays the
original numbering: there is a 0 instead of the number 12 and there are 24 Arabic
numerals in two hour rings.

This year, Longines is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its Flagship watch and unveiled
a reissue that is very much in line with the original piece launched in 1957, which
stood out for its white dial, thin profile and fine fasteners. Today, the Flagship Heritage
60th Anniversary is available in three versions: stainless steel, yellow gold and rose gold,
all of which come in numbered limited editions (1957 pieces in stainless steel and 60 pieces
each in yellow gold and rose gold). They all have a brushed silvered dial featuring a pair of
dauphine hands and applied indexes in yellow gold or rose gold, depending on the model.
And as on the original piece, the caseback is stamped with a caravel the flagship. Proceeds
from sales will be donated to the Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit organisation that
raises funds for children with autism created in 2010 by British actress Kate Winslet, one
of the companys Ambassadors of Elegance.

waarneming hiervan (van licht tot donker), de verzadiging op zijn intensiteit
(van helder tot intens) en de verdeling op hoe gelijkmatig de kleur over de
steen verdeeld is. In tegenstelling tot kleurloze diamanten worden gekleurde
diamanten niet ingedeeld op basis van hun zuiverheid maar volgens de
intensiteit van hun kleur. Er zijn negen verschillende kleurgradaties: Faint,
Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy

If a diamond is colourless, it is only made of carbon. In order for
a diamond to exhibit a particular colour, a chemical reaction must
have occurred in the stone and it must have been subjected to a
particular temperature and pressure. This explains their extreme
rarity. In fact, it is estimated that for every one coloured diamond,
there are 10,000 colourless diamonds. By way of example, the
presence of boron gives a diamond a blue hue, while nitrogen will
give it a yellow hue and hydrogen, a purple hue. In the latter case,
red or pink stones may be formed due to the degree of pressure that
the stone has undergone during its formation. A green diamond,
meanwhile, has acquired its colouring by being in contact with
certain retroactive uranium salts.
Grading coloured diamonds
Four criteria are necessary to determine the colour of a diamond:
hue, tone, saturation and distribution. Hue refers to the dominant
colour of the stone; tone refers to how we perceive the colour (from
light to dark); saturation is the strength of the colour (from faint to
deep); and lastly, distribution refers to how evenly the colour extends
across the stone. Unlike colourless diamonds, coloured diamonds
are not classified according to their purity but rather according to
the intensity of the colour. In fact, there are nine degrees of colour:
Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense, Fancy
Vivid, Fancy Dark and Fancy Deep. The more intense the colour
is (Fancy Deep), the more valuable the diamond is. But note, the
degrees of colour are only valid for untreated diamonds, not for
artificially altered diamonds. More than 300 colours have been
identified as of today. Coloured diamonds come in an infinite range
of shades.

Coloured diamonds have made record sales in recent years as seen
in the spectacular prices fetched at the auction houses Sothebys
and Christies. In April 2017 in Hong Kong, the Sothebys hammer
fell and awarded The Pink Star, the most precious gem ever sold,
for a price of $71.2 million. The 59.60 ct. flawless pink diamond

Carat
Carat is the measure that applies to the weight of a diamond; it is different
from that used for gold alloys. One carat is equal to 0.20 grams and can
be subdivided into 100 points. For example, a 0.50 carat diamond is
equivalent to a 50-point diamond. But take heed, two diamonds of the
same weight will not always have the same value.
Clarity
Virtually all diamonds contain imperfections. These imperfections,
also referred to as flaws, are actually tiny traces of non-crystallised
carbon or small crystals found inside the diamond. They are detected
by being examined under a 10x powered microscope: the fewer
flaws it has, the rarer and more valuable it will be. The scale of the
renowned GIA (Gemological Institute of America) lists the following
levels of purity: Internally Flawless (FL-IF), Very Very Slightly
Included (VVS1-VVS2), Very Slightly Included
(VS1-VS2), Slightly Included (SI1-SI2) and Imperfect
(I1-I2-I3).
Colour
The more flaws and impurities a diamond has,
the more colour it will have. Particularly detailed
scales have been developed by different organisations
to classify diamonds according to colour: it go from
D to Z, where D represents an exceptionally white, completely
colourless diamond and Z represents a light yellow or brown
diamond.
Cut
The cut of a diamond should not be confused with its size.
The cut refers to the shape, that is, its appearance, and the style of cut
refers to the layout of the facets. A well cut diamond can transmit
light in an extraordinary way, highlighting three main attributes:
fire (the dispersion of light into the colours of the colour spectrum),
brilliance (the total light reflected from a diamond) and scintillation
(the flashes of light, or sparkle, when a diamond is moved).
The proportions of a diamond refer to the relationship existing between
the cut of the table, the angles of the crown and the depth of the pavilion.
How these proportions change will affect the stones interaction with
the light. As for the shape, there are several different kinds
(princess, heart, oval cut), with brilliant cut round with 57 or 58 facets
being the most popular.

MeisterSinger is een Duits horlogebedrijf dat in 2001 werd opgericht
door Manfred Brassler, een designer van horloges meerdere malen
onderscheiden maar ook en bovenal een hartstochtelijk verzamelaar. Hij
is de wedloop naar steeds meer complicaties beu en wil zich richten op
eenvoudige, klassieke en tijdloze horloges. Daarom stelt MeisterSinger
met haar collecties een ware reis terug naar de begintijd van het horloge
voor met modellen met slechts n wijzer zoals bij de eerste uurwerken
waarop de tijd kon worden afgelezen. Op een sobere wijzerplaat ontdaan
van overbodige elementen slaat een enkele wijzer in zijn eentje de maat.
MeisterSinger geeft het aflezen van de tijd een hele andere dimensie: de
wijzerplaat telt in totaal 144 segmenten van 5 minuten ofwel 12 segmenten
per uur. Deze uurwerken die aanspreken door hun originaliteit, zijn in
Duitsland vervaardigd en in Zwitserland in elkaar gezet, en combineren
kwaliteit en vakmanschap.
In 2014 introduceerde MeisterSinger de collectie Circularis voorzien
van het allereerste mouvement dat door het huis werd ontwikkeld, het
MSH01 handopwinduurwerk. Met zijn twee veertonnen maakt hij een
hoge gangreserve mogelijk van 120 uur ofwel 5 dagen. De kast van het
horloge heeft een diameter van 43 mm en een design vergelijkbaar met
dat van de modellen Nr. 01, Nr. 02 en Nr. 03 waarmee hij al het hart
van een groot aantal liefhebbers heeft gewonnen. We vinden hier dus de
dubbele cijfers terug waar het huis een patent op heeft, met de nul vr
de cijfers n tot en met negen. We zien ook enkele kleine nieuwigheden
zoals de nauwelijks opvallende aanduiding van de halve uren.
De Circularis collectie is inmiddels aangevuld met een horloge met
automatisch uurwerk en het nieuwe MSA01 kaliber. Als basis hiervoor ging
MeisterSinger uit van hetzelfde uurwerk waaraan een rotor is toegevoegd,
die deels van wolfraam is om de twee veertonnen van energie te voorzien
en de gangreserve van 120 uur te behouden. Andere nieuwigheden zijn
het datumvenster op 6 uur en de Super-LumiNova coating op indexen en
enkele wijzer. De collectie Circularis Automatic bestaat uit horloges van
roestvrij staal met een kast met een diameter van 43 mm en een lichtende
wijzerplaat, behalve bij de ivoorkleurige uitvoering die in verschillende
tinten verkrijgbaar is. De afwerkingen van dit nieuwe uurwerk zijn
zichtbaar dankzij een deels doorzichtig achterdeksel.

hand beats along time, alone. MeisterSinger thus revisits the telling
of time, which takes on a completely different dimension: the dial is

These seductively original pieces are designed in Germany and
assembled in Switzerland, thus bringing together quality and knowhow.
In 2014, MeisterSinger unveiled the Circularis collection, which is
equipped with the first in-house movement, the hand-wound mechanical
movement MSH01. Built with two barrels, it offers a good power reserve
of 120 hours, that is to say five days. Available in a diameter of 43 mm,
the watches in this collection feature a design similar to the models
N01, N02 and N03, timepieces which have already won the hearts
of many fans. The companys quintessential design codes, such as the
0 before all numbers up to 9, are found on these watches as well.
There are also some small innovations to be discovered, including the
discreet indication of half-hours.
Today, the Circularis collection has been expanded with an automatic
version equipped with the new calibre MSA01. To make it, MeisterSinger
used the previous mechanism as a base and added a rotor winding
mechanism with a circling tungsten weight that supplies the two barrels
with energy while offering a 120-hour power reserve. And the other
innovations? The date window at 6 oclock and the Super-LumiNova
coating on the markers and single hand. The Circularis Automatic
collection offers stainless steel watches measuring 43 mm in diameter
fitted with a dial available in several different colours which features a
sunburst finish, except for the ivory version. The finishes on the new
movement are visible through the clear caseback.

This year, I.N.O.X., the Swiss brands flagship collection, is
making room for a range of new models, including
the I.N.O.X. Carbon.
I.N.O.X is de collectie met emblematische horloges van het merk met het Zwitserse

collectie werd in 2015 gelanceerd en de naam ervan is niet zomaar gekozen want
deze verwijst naar een uitvinding die aan het begin van de 20e eeuw een grote
bijdrage leverde aan de ontwikkeling en het succes van het Zwitserse officiersmes,
het roestvrij staal. Dit materiaal vormt als het ware de brug tussen de messenmakerij,
de activiteit van huis uit van Victorinox, en het horlogebedrijf.
De horloges van de serie I.N.O.X. moeten bestand zijn tegen extreme omstandigheden
en onderscheiden zich dan ook door hun uitzonderlijke sterkte en bestendigheid.
Ze hebben daartoe een testbatterij van maar liefst 130 weerstandstesten moeten
doorstaan waaronder een val vanaf 10 meter hoogte op beton, weerstand bieden
tegen een gewicht van 64 ton, een wascylus van twee uur in een wasmachine op
90 graden en zelfs een zandstorm! Ze blijken ook bestand te zijn tegen extreme
temperatuurschommelingen en versnellingskrachten tot 12 G. Tot slot is gekeken
hoe ze zich gedragen in contact met verschillende agressieve stoffen zoals benzine
en oplosmiddelen. Om een dergelijk weerstandsniveau te bereiken zijn er voor het
ontwerp van de I.N.O.X specifieke ontwikkelingen en materialen nodig geweest: de
kapjes van het horloge zijn vastgezet met een dwarsstaaf, de kroon werd versterkt en
voor het glas is veiligheidsglas gebruikt.
De nieuwe I.N.O.X. Carbon heeft een nog hoger resistentieniveau bereikt door
bij de fabricage een koolstofcomposiet te gebruiken die ook is toegepast voor de
bescherming van spaceshuttles bij hun terugkeer in de dampkring van de aarde
waar de temperatuur kan oplopen tot meer dan 1260 graden! Het horloge heeft een
industrile look met een kast van 43 mm waarin een Ronda 715 kwartsuurwerk
van Zwitserse makelij is ondergebracht. Ook is het voorzien van een afneembare
bumper die dient voor extra bescherming. De zwarte wijzerplaat wordt beschermd
door saffierglas en hieronder is in rood de militaire tijd aangegeven.
Op de wijzerplaat bevinden zich lichtgevende wijzers, cijfers en indexen n een
datumvenster op 4:30 uur. Tot slot wordt het I.N.O.X. Carbon geleverd met de
bekende polsband van Naimakka paracord dat traditioneel wordt gebruikt voor
parachutelijnen. In deze polsband is meer dan vier meter nylon koord verwerkt en
hij bezit een breeksterkte van 250 kilo, een echt survival-accessoire dus.
Celebrating the history and expertise of Victorinox, I.N.O.X. is the iconic collection
of watches by the company with the Swiss logo. Launched in 2015, the name of the
collection was not chosen by random; it in fact pays tribute to the invention that
in the early 20th century was instrumental in the development and success of the
Swiss army knife: stainless steel, an element which defines the link between cutlery
(Victorinox historic activity) and watchmaking.
Designed to withstand the most extreme conditions, the watches in the I.N.O.X.
collection are distinguished by their incredible durability. Indeed, they all undergo
a total of 130 endurance tests, including a 10-metre drop onto a concrete surface,
being driven over by a 64-ton tank, two hours time spent in a 90-degree washing
machine, and even a sandstorm. They can also withstand extreme variations in
temperature and 12G forces of acceleration. Moreover, they are subject to aggression
from an array of liquids like gases and solvents. To achieve such levels of endurance,
the design of the I.N.O.X. required specific developments and materials: the lugs are
solidified with a crossbar, the crown has a crown guard and the crystal is reinforced.
The new I.N.O.X. Carbon achieves even greater levels of resistance thanks to the
fact that it is manufactured in a carbon composite similar to the one that protects
space shuttles on their return from space when temperatures can exceed 1,260C!
With an industrial inspired look, it comes in a 43 mm case housing a Swiss-made
Ronda 715 quartz movement. A removable bumper is also provided to offer extra
protection. The black dial is protected by a sapphire crystal beneath which military
time is printed in red. It has luminescent hands, numerals and markers as well as
a date window at 4.30. In addition, the I.N.O.X. Carbon watch is now attached to
the famous Naimakka paracord strap. Originally used for parachute suspension
lines, this nylon cord measuring over four metres long and with a breaking point of
250 kilograms is a genuine survival tool.

One of the greatest treasures of Canada is its lush nature, where a unique wildlife flourishes.
Observing wild animals is a popular activity, particularly in national parks.
Here are some ideas for getting to know the most emblematic parks during your stay.

De nationale parken in Canada bestaan al meer dan honderd jaar. Ze werden
aangelegd om landschappen en natuurverschijnselen in streken in het hele
land te beschermen en tot hun recht te laten komen. Deze parken zijn
dan ook overal te vinden: aan de Atlantische kust en aan de westkust, in
het poolgebied en in de bergen in het binnenland, in de vlakten en bij de
Grote Meren, in het noorden maar ook in het zuiden. Er zijn in totaal 46
nationale parken waarvan er twaalf op de lijst van het werelderfgoed van
de UNESCO staan. Het Banff National Park en het Jasper National Park
genieten internationale erkenning. Op het programma staan bergen, vlakten,
boreale bossen, toendras, meren, gletsjers en nog veel meer. De nationale
parken laten niet alleen de natuurlijke geschiedenis van Canada maar ook
de menselijke geschiedenis van het land zien. En in een van deze parken, het
Wood Buffalo park, bevindt zich de grootste beverdam ter wereld die zelfs
zichtbaar is vanuit de ruimte!
De bever was al lang vr het esdoornblad het nationale symbool van
Canada. Het is het grootste knaagdier van Canada en kan bijna 1,30 meter
lang worden. Bevers zijn voornamelijk s nachts actief en leven in een semi-
aquatische omgeving. Verschillende nationale parken, waaronder het
park Jacques-Cartier, Aiguebelle, Pointe-Taillon, Oka en Plaisance, bieden
de mogelijkheid om het leven van de bever onder begeleiding van een
natuurgids te leren kennen.
De zwarte beer is vandaag de dag een van de meest bekende wilde dieren in
Noord-Amerika. Hij is in alle bossen over het hele grondgebied van Canada
te vinden. Maar niet te verwarren met de grizzly-beer die wat ronder van
vorm is en een bult tussen de schouders heeft. Deze beide berensoorten
leven in de Canadese Rockies en in de meeste nationale parken die tegen
de bergen aanliggen, zoals de parken Banff, Jasper, Yoho en Kootenay,
wordt de mogelijkheid geboden om ze met inachtneming van strikte regels
te observeren. Als u graag ijsberen zou willen zien dan is het goed om te
weten dat 60% van de wereldpopulatie op Canadees grondgebied leeft in het
kustgebergte in het noordwesten en in de verlaten streken van Alaska. Het
nationale park Wapusk is een bevoorrechte plek om ijsberen te observeren
omdat het in een van de grootste paringsgebieden ligt.
Canada has had national parks for over a century. Created to
protect and showcase the landscapes and natural phenomena of
the different regions in the country, they can be found on the
Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic coasts, in the inland mountains, on
the plains and Great Lakes, in the north and in the south. There
are 46 in total, 12 of which have been designated UNESCO
World Heritage Sites. The Banff and Jasper National Parks are
world renowned. On the programme: mountains, plains, boreal
forests, tundra, lakes, glaciers and much more. The national
parks of Canada recount both the countrys natural history as
well as its human history. One of them, Wood Buffalo National
Park, is home to the largest beaver dam in the world, which can
be seen from space!
A national emblem, more important than the maple leaf,
the beaver is the largest rodent in Canada. It can be up to
1.30 metres long, is primarily a nocturnal animal and lives in
a semi-aquatic environment. Many national parks, including
Jacques-Cartier, Aiguebelle, Pointe-Taillon, Oka and Plaisance
National Parks, give visitors the chance to discover how the
beaver lives accompanied by a nature guide.
Black bears are now one of the best known wild animals living
in North America. They are found living naturally in the many
forests located throughout Canada. They shouldnt be confused
with grizzly bears, which have a rounder shape and a hump
between their shoulders. Both live in the Canadian Rockies
and can be observed (in a strictly regulated manner) in most
of the mountain national parks, namely in Banff, Jasper, Yoho
and Kootenay National Parks. However, if what you want to
see is polar bears, you should know that 60% of the worlds
polar bear population lives in Canadian territory, often seen
in the Northwest Coast Range and the wilderness of Alaska.
The Wapusk National Park is an excellent place to observe them,
as it is one of the largest polar bear denning areas in the world.

Wie heeft nog nooit van de kariboe gehoord? Hij behoort tot de familie
van de hertachtigen, samen met nog vier andere inheemse hertensoorten
die in Canada leven: de Canadese eland, het wapitihert, het witstaarthert
en het muildierhert. Het is de enige soort waarvan de mannelijke n
vrouwelijke dieren een gewei dragen. Sommige kuddes leven in de bossen
en andere in de bergen, sommige trekken elk jaar naar de toendra van
het hoge Noorden terwijl andere daar het hele jaar leven. De kariboe is te
vinden vanaf de Canadees-Amerikaanse grens tot aan het noorden van
het Ellesmere-eiland en vanaf Brits-Columbia en het territorium Yukon
in het westen tot aan het eiland Newfoundland in het oosten.
Canada, en met name het deelgebied Quebec, is een van de weinige
plaatsen ter wereld waar men zon grote verscheidenheid aan walvissen kan
spotten, waaronder de blauwe walvis, de gewone vinvis, de bultrugwalvis
en de witte walvis. Om ze te observeren is Tadoussac aan de St-Lawrence-
rivier de perfecte plek. Op sommige plaatsen is de rivier aan de kust zo
diep dat u ze vanaf het strand kunt zien. Dat geldt in het bijzonder voor de
riviermonding bij het Saguenay-fjord in Baie-Sainte-Catherine, bij Cap-
de-Bon-Dsir in Les Bergeronnes of in Gaspsie in het nationale park van
Forillon. Talloze bedrijven zowel op de noord- als de zuidoever van de
St-Lawrence bieden van mei tot oktober dagtochten aan om ze te spotten.
Buiten deze periode migreren de walvissen en is het dus niet mogelijk
om ze te zien, met uitzondering van de witte walvis die hier het hele jaar
door leeft.
De lijst met wilde dieren die u kunt observeren op uw reis door Canada is
heel lang. U zult ongetwijfeld eekhoorntjes, zelfs vliegende eekhoorntjes,
zien maar ook wasberen, marmotten, fluithazen of pikas, lynxen, wolven
en bizons en in de buurt van water zeeleeuwen, zeehonden, narwallen en
nog vele andere soorten.

Have you ever heard of the famous caribou? It is a member of the
deer family, which includes four other species of deer native to
Canada: moose, elk, white-tailed deer and mule deer. It is the only
species in which both the males and females have antlers. Some live
in the forests, while others live in the mountains; some migrate each
year to the tundra in the far north, while others remain in the same
place all year long. Caribou populations extend from the Canada/US
border to Ellesmere Island in the north and from British Columbia
and Yukon Territory in the west to the island of Newfoundland in
the east.
Moreover, Canada, specifically Quebec, is one of the few places in
the world where it is possible to see such a wide variety of whales,
including the blue whale, the fin whale, the humpback whale and
the beluga whale. A good place from which to watch them is not
far from Tadoussac in the waters of the St. Lawrence River. In some
places, the river is so deep near the shore that you will likely be
able to see them from the shore itself. This is particularly the case
in the mouth of the Saguenay Ford in Baie-Sainte-Catherine, from
Cap-de-Bon-Dsir in Bergeronnes and from the Gasp Peninsula in
Forillon National Park. There are a large number of companies on
both the north and south shore of the St. Lawrence offering daily
whale watching trips from May to October. The whales are migrating
in other months and it is not possible to see them, except for belugas,
which can be seen all year long.
Nevertheless, there is a very long list of wildlife which can be observed
while travelling in Canada. You are also likely to see squirrels
(including flying ones!), raccoons, marmots, pikas, lynx, wolves and
bison in addition to sea lions, seals, narwhales and many more.
