VOL. 1, ISSUE 3 OCTOBER 31, 2017

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, WILDCATS!
We are proud to bring Honor Roll recognition back to Wilson High School. Based on
the first grading period of Fall Semester, 759 students earned Honor Roll
recognition! There are 120 students that made the Honor Roll list (GPA 3.0-3.49),
another 225 students achieved High Honors (GPA 3.5-3.99), and 414 students
earned Honors with Distinction (GPA 4.0 and higher). Way to go, Wildcats!!
Please join us for Coffee With The Principal on at 6:30 PM in Media Center. You
will have the opportunity to meet our Department Chairs and Program Coordinators.
Registration for the 2017-18 school year will begin in January so this is an ideal
opportunity to learn about core and elective courses at Wilson, as well as programs
of study such as our Wilson Institute of Technology and Sciences (WITS) and our
Conservatory of Arts (CoArts).
DATE CHANGE: Open House will be held Wednesday, January 17 th.
As we near the end of the second grading period, please be reminded that high
school students really do need and appreciate parent involvement, even though they
may not always show it. Please check Aeries weekly to monitor work completion,
grades, and attendance. You are encouraged to inquire with your student and
teachers about progress. Teachers phone numbers and email addresses can be
found in Aeries and on the Wilson website at www.wihs.hlpschools.org.
As we approach the holiday season, please be aware of minimum day schedule and
school closures:
Friday, November 3: Minimum Day - school ends at 12:39 PM
Friday, November 10: Veterans Day school closed
Monday, November 20 Friday, November 24: Thanksgiving school closed
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I would like to take a moment to share how
thankful I am to serve this community and work with your children. It is a privilege to
watch them strive not only to achieve their personal goals but also to make Wilson a
great place to learn and thrive. At times they struggle, but it is their perseverance
and determination that makes their growth and success rewarding for all of us at
Wilson High School. Wishing you joy and happiness throughout this holi day season.

FROM THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT

The month of October proved to be the continuation of some old trends, and the start
of some new. Our Girls Tennis team has now made it 3 years in a row of being the
Valle Vista League Champions. Coach Lopez and the rest of our young ladies have
dominated this league and doesnt look to slow down in the upcoming years. CIF is
the next challenge for our Wildcats and will start the first week of December.
Our Water Polo team finished the month with a strong 16-10 win over Cathedral
during the last home game for the 18 seniors in the program.
Freshman Myla Romero was named to the all second team and sophomore Rocelyn
Lee was named honorable mention in the prestigious Palomares League for girls
golf.
Our Football team, led by Coach Sal Ortiz, has made huge strides. Each game our
young men are getting better and better. Their work showed through with a
convincing win over Baldwin Park 27-14. This was our Wildcats first league victory
in over 5 years.
Parents please join us for our winter season athletics meeting that will be held in the
Media Center on Tuesday, November 14th at 5:00 pm. We expect all of our
parents to attend this meeting at least once per year before the season of sport that
their child will be playing in. Thank you for your constant support. Go Wildcats!
Willie Allen, Athletic Director
