6- 8) Summary etc.
1. Read Chapter Six in the 3D eBook: Review and explain in a few sentences each image what the the
customer requirements were / could have been based on the images offered
(image files: IMG_1122 to IMG_1174 section).
IMG_1122- This could be the inspection and repair of a boat prop. The inspection should include
qualitative and quantitative. Visual inspection for pits, chips, nicks, and cracks.
IMG_1123- This might be the inspection and repair of a boat stabilizer installation. The installation
should include qualitative and quantitative. Visual inspection for corrosion, and proper adhesive
application.
IMG_1145- This is the inspection and repair of a wooden boat hull. The repair includes stripping all old
paint to the base raw material (wood). Included in this process is qualitative inspection. Visual
inspection for corrosion, cracks and holes (wood rot, etc.).
IMG_1148- This is the inspection and repair of the chipping paint of a wooden boat. The repair
includes scrapping, stripping of the old paint to enable good adhesion of the new base paint material
IMG_1150- This is the inspection and repair of the bow of a wooden boat. The must repair include
scrapping, stripping of the old paint to the base wood in order to ensure proper water tight sealing of
the repair.
IMG_1151- This is a close up view of the necessary repairs to the bow of this boat. The inspection
discloses there are major material replacements necessary to properly repair this (wood rot) damage in
order to ensure proper water tight sealing of the repair.
IMG_1157- This is a view of the final mooring place for a boat of the nature depicted in the previous
picture, once it is repaired and restored to world class condition again. The docking area is of a major
metropolitan pier where world class boats are docked. This region is also under construction and in a
growing economy . This is present in the background where it can be seen major construction is
underway.
IMG_1158- This is a view of the open dock slip where this restored boat should be moored
This picture is another view of the docking area in a major metropolitan pier for the boat project.
IMG_1159- This is an additional view of the dock. In this view it depicts other boats in the port of a
totally different vintage. These boats are newer, and constructed of fiberglass, not wood.
IMG_1171- This is a picture of an old deteriorated out board motor and miscellaneous parts.
This motor could be restored and be used to power the dingy or life boat of the larger wooden boat
being restored. If this is not a restoration project these parts could serve to other purposes; either spare
pars for another motor, or scrap and sold to a scrap yard.
IMG_1172- This is a picture of an old deteriorated inboard motor water cooling exhaust manifolds
utilized to cool the inboard motor of a large boat. These appear to be old and used and may not be in
significant condition to properly function. These parts serve a critical role in the cooling of the boat
engine and therefore perform a critical function of the motor. If these fail two things could happen; the
motor could over heat and fail, or if they leak they could allow water to flood the motor and the boat
and could cause the boat to sink.
IMG_1174- This is another picture of more old deteriorated miscellaneous boat motor parts.
These parts appear to be scrap and should be sold to a scrap yard.
2. Based on Chapters 7 and 8, develop your own CORA product requirements model using the CORA Excel
Template. Focus on creating a sustainable green design!
Component oriented Requirements Analysis (CORA), is the name of this method,
See appendix A Excel File
3. Show your main requirements, and solution processes in this spreadsheet, that you have to customize,
based on the CORA Template spreadsheet.
5. When you finish your CORA spreadsheet calculations, make sure you analyze and explain the results:
1. What is your analysis of the calculated results, and what are your decisions based on the CORA
analysis, and why?
The results of this CORA shows that Pneumatics Inc. is the leader in almost every category. It
shows that the customer has a great deal of confidents in the capabilities of the company. This
includes the design, engineering and productions ability to deliver as promised and of the best
quality.
2. Show me, that you understand what you should do and why... all based on the CORA
spreadsheet.
The spread sheet shows that there is one competitor with better assessment values for
engineering and programming. Highlighted in amber on the CORA Spread Sheet.
3. Also find the top three largest AIR numbers in the CORA matrix and explain what are you going
to do with the findings? This analysis of the results is critical! I would like to see that you
understand the results of CORA and then you can manage your design team, based on the
results!, Im not one of those!
The top three Absolute Importance Rating (AIR) values are; 355, Design, 362, Drawings, &
247 (Production Parts; Cylinder Body, Rod Machining, Piston, Fittings, & Mounts).
This shows that these areas of the operations are performing well in respect to the associated
importance ratings. It further more shows that there are areas which require some attention.
4. Also explain to me how the design specification gained from CORA integrates with the
manufacturing plans. (This product and process / manufacturing / assembly process integration
is crucial to achieve full green PLM!)
This Component -oriented Requirements Analysis, (CORA) process/plan is in full alignment with
the customers desires and expectations with respect to sales, design, engineering production,
quality testing and delivery. Furthermore this plan is fully integrated with the operational
functions of the company and the product, from order intake to delivery; design, engineering,
manufacturing, fabrication, assembly and test.
6. Also show how your (real, or made up, i.e. the 5th) company can collaborate in designing new
hardware/ software / service with a Sustainable GREEN PLM focus with the collaborative companies.
(There are 4 companies you have to collaborate with; explain HOW you are planning to do this together
with THEM. YOU MUST WORK WITH THEM; sorry; the boss says so...).
7. Last, but not least do not forget your social networking content (as above).
