Abstract
Thepurposeofthisstudywastoidentifywhetherthecoconutcoircanbereplacedwoodasthemainmaterialtoproducepaperinthe
future.Paperandpaperbasedproductsareimportantinourlives.Theyareuseinallourdealingswhetherintheoffice,supermarket,
andrestaurantorevenusethebathroom.Paperalsoisoneoftheimportantthingsanditisusedextensivelyintheoffices.In1996,
Malaysiahasownpaperusageandhasreachedalmosttwomillionmetrictons.Becauseofthewidespreaduseofpaperthroughout
theworld,itcausestheuseof woodinlargequantitiesfortheproductionofpaper.Thishascausedproblemsinsupplyingpaperatthis
time.Therefore,thepresentresearchhasbeenfocusingtowards findingtherawmaterialsthatiscapableforreplacingwoodasthe
mainmaterial.Hence,thisprojectisdoneinordertotestwhethercoconutfiber(fiber)couldpotentiallyreplace theuseofwoodin
papermaking.Aresearchhasbeendonebeforeaboutcoirfiber.Coconutcoircontainscellulosefiberwhichishighenoughanditcan
beusedaspulpmanufacturing.Itcanalsobeusedinthemanufactureofcompositematerialsconsistingofacombinationofcoirfiber
paperpulpandpulpformationofHVS.Furthermorefiberpulpfibershavingthehighestlevelsofalphacellulosemixedwithpulpfrom
wastepaperusedasrawmaterialinthemanufactureofcompositepaper.Thenformacompositepaperfeaturessuchasstrongpull,
theabilitytoabsorbink,writingabilityandendurancehasbeentested.
