transfer genetic information to determine the traits of their offspring.
GENETICS S7L3
a. Construct an explanation supported with scientific evidence of
the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait.
b. Develop and use a model to describe how asexual
reproduction can result in offspring with identical genetic information while sexual reproduction results in genetic variation. (Clarification statement: Models could include, but are not limited to, the use of monohybrid Punnett squares to demonstrate the heritability of genes and the resulting genetic variation, identification of heterozygous and homozygous, and comparison of genotype vs. phenotype.) What am I learning today?
I am learning that each parent in the P generation
has two alleles they have inherited from their parents. Those P generation parents each contribute one of those alleles to their offspring, the F1 generation, to form a new genotype.
The F1 offsprings phenotype is determined by the
combination of alleles in their genotype. Why am I learning this?
I am learning this so I can obtain,
evaluate, and communicate information to explain how organisms transfer genetic information to determine the traits of their offspring. How will I know I learned it?
Byknowing Mendels laws, my LOS
words and vocabulary, I can determine the genotype and phenotype of an offspring using a Table and I can explain why offspring of the same parent can look different. Application and Extension
Using what you know about Mundelein genetics, how could
scientists create the perfect cat? What information would be needed? -Create the perfect cat using at least 8 Punnett squares. You choose the traits -Construct a table to identify dominant and recessive alleles and their symbols.
