(Common to ECE, E.Con.E & ECC)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 80
Answer any FIVE questions
All questions carry equal marks

*****
1 (a)
Verify , for a symmetrical square wave applied to a

high pass RC circuit.

(b) A 10 Hz square wave is fed to an amplifier. Calculate and sketch the output wave forms
under following conditions. The lower 3 dB frequency is
(i) 0.3 Hz (ii) 3 Hz (iii) 30 Hz

2 (a) Explain transfer characteristics of the emitter coupled clipper and derive the necessary
equations.
(b) State and prove sampling theorem.

3 (a) Draw the diode piece wise linear characteristics and explain why nonlinear characteristics
are made into linear.
(b) Explain in detail about transistor switching times.

4 Calculate the stable state currents and voltages for fixed bias bistable multivibrator.
Assume that the transistors have a minimum hFE value as 20. Also draw the necessary
equivalent circuits. The given data is: VCC = 12 V, RC = 2.2 k , R1 = 15 k , R2 = 100 k
and VBB = -12 V. Also sketch each base and collector voltage.

5 (a) Define the terms slope error, displacement error and transmission error of time-base
signal and derive the relation among them.
(b) With the help of a neat circuit diagram and waveforms, explain the working of a transistor
Miller timer base generator.

6 (a) Explain synchronization using mono-stable symmetrical signals.

(b) Explain the synchronization of a sweep circuit with symmetrical signals.

7 (a) Explain basic operating principles of sampling gates.

(b) Derive the gain and control voltages of four diode sampling gate.

8 (a) Draw the circuit diagram of 3-input AND gate which can work for positive and negative
logic. Use transistor in the circuit and explain its operation.
(b) Explain the effect of diode capacitance on the output pulse of diode AND gate.
