To apply for financial aid please fill out and submit the following form.
Please remember to sign the application form as well as the information sheet
following the application form.
You will be informed about the decision regarding your application in due course after the
submission deadline.

The following documents need to be submitted along with the form:

Proof of registration
CV (in tabular form) featuring a description of your educational career (1-2 pages)
Written letter (min. 1 page) describing why you require/are applying for financial
aid
Proof of current financial distress and situation (e.g. bank statements
(Kontoauszge) covering the entire period of the last two months)
Proof of having attended an advisory talk at the International Office
Transcript of all grades and exam results (all course documentation (Scheine)
earned at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universitt)
Letter of recommendation (Gutachten) from a professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-
Universitt Freiburg including an evaluation of your potential for successful
continued study

Incomplete applications cannot be reviewed. All documents submitted as part of your

application will remain in the International Office and will not be returned; therefore DO
NOT submit any original documents. All information not otherwise in the public domain is
kept strictly confidential by the International Office.

Applying for Financial Aid Requirements

Each year the Baden-Wrttemberg state Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts
together with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) allocate a limited budget
to the Universitt Freiburg to support international (doctoral) students in continuing their
studies, the completion of their degree as well as toward the completion of their doctoral
degree.
The International Office (IO) of the Universitt Freiburg is bound to use these funds
ONLY in cases in which the student finds him/herself subject to an unforeseen and
temporary emergency situation through no fault of his or her own and is not able to
obtain financial aid from other sources. This financial aid is intended as a means of last
resort to obviate the students/doctoral candidates need to break off his/her studies in
general or his/her degree just prior to completion for reasons of financial distress.
This financial aid is not a scholarship and therefore cannot be compared either in terms
of awarded amount or of duration to any scholarship. The maximum duration of support
is limited to six months. Aid can first be paid in the month following the application.
Only if you satisfy the requirements specified above, you can submit an application for
financial aid.
