DIGNITY

The task started with the Group Discussion .The base of

the discussion was DIGNITY. The question in front of us
was that : What is DIGNITY? How do we understand
DIGNITY? What does DIGNITY of an individual means?
How is DIGNITY root to Justice , Liberty , Equality and
Fraternity?
It was a two hours discussion and in this two
hours we understood the actual meaning of DIGNITY.
Equality is much important for an individuals DIGNITY. To
gain DIGNITY everyone needs to be treated equally. This
helps a person to develop and development of an
individual leads to the development of a country.
DIGNITY
doesnt only mean of a particular gender , caste , religion
but of an every individual of any gender , caste and
religion. We can understand DIGNITY in different forms.
GENDER INEQUALITY:
Next day the topic of discussion was GENDER
INEQUALITY. This the biggest problem of our country.
During the research I came across through some data
which shows how backward our country is on the basis of
their thinking.
Overall literacy rate of India is (census 2011): 74.04%
Male: 82.14%
Female: 65.46%
The highest literacy rate is of Kerela: 93.91%
The lowest literacy rate is of Bihar: 61.8%
Male(Bihar): 71.5%
Female(Bihar): 51.5%
There are 940 females/1000 males.
Female Feticide is very common.
The recent study of 2011 said that there are 883 female
infants/1000 male infants.
There were acts which were brought for the termination
of baby but under some circumstances like medical risk
to the mother or rape. But these acts were later used by
the people to determine the gender of the baby and if it
is a girl then she is killed.
Some of these acts are:
Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (1971)
This act was later misused by during 1980s in Urban
India.
Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques Act (1994)
Pre- Conception and Pre- natal Diagnostic
Techniques (2004)
This was implemented to stop the misuse of the
other two acts.
Although these acts were implemented but was poorly
enforced they targeted education and media to spread
awareness regarding these acts but are still not that
successful.
CASTE DISCRIMINATION:
The major problem of India is that the people have
divided themselves in to different castes. The people are
divided in such a way that their identity is their caste.
The population of different castes are:
General: 30.80%
OBC: 40.94%
SC: 19.59%
ST: 8.63%
64.3% of the population depends on agriculture.
39.4% of the population has self employment.
24.9% are involved in labor.
Self employment: 49.0% ST, 36.6% SC, 60.7% OBC, 66.4%
others
Labor: 56.4% SC, 45.2% ST, 30.7% OBC, 21.8% others
The reservation and the Caste Politics are the two major
reasons why this caste system is still alive. The castes like
SC/ST and Dalits are been suppressed by the society in
such a way that they start thinking themselves different
from others and also think that they are not the part of
this country. This thinking leads to violence , some of the
cases are:
Jatt Dalit Dangawas- Rajasthan (2015)
Marakkam Violance, Tamil Nadu (2013)
Lakshmanpura Bathe (1997)
Bathani Tola Massacre (1996)
Shankar Bigha Massacre (1999)
According to a survey in 2014 it was found that only 5%
inter-caste marriages takes place in India.
CRIME AGAINST WOMEN:
The gender discrimination has a great effect on the life of
women. The crime against women is increasing day by
day:

Violence against women: 244,270

Reported dowry deaths: 8,233
Reported rapes: 24,923
Reported abductions: 38,262
SLUM VISIT:
We went for a survey in a slum area which lies in the
campus of NMCH. The condition of the place was worse.
People living there are helpless to live in that condition ,
the people there had a well build house which was
destroyed by the Government officials. They also had
proper water supply and electricity but now they have
nothing because everything has been destroyed. Many
have lost their life because of this.
The people there
hold Ration card, Voter ID card, Aadhar card. But the
problem is that they donot get ration on time. If they cast
vote they donot know why do they vote. They are not
aware of the constitution and their rights.
There is neither
caste discrimination nor religion discrimination but class
discrimination. They major reason of the distruction of
their house is the hospital society there. The people
there have to face so many problems.
HUMAN RIGHTS:

that they can fight for their rights.
FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES:
The fundamental duties was brought into our
constitution by 42nd Amendment Act in 1976 in Article
51A, Part IVA. The fundamental duties are:
It shall be the duty of every citizen of India:

1. to abide by the constitution and respect its ideal and

institutions;
2. to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired
our national struggle for freedom;
3. to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and
integrity of India;
4. to defend the country and render national service
when called upon to do so;
5. to promote harmony and the spirit of common
brotherhood amongst all the people of India
transcending religious, linguistic and regional
diversities, to renounce practices derogatory to the
dignity of women;
6. to value and preserve the rich heritage of our
composite culture;
7. to protect and improve the natural environment
including forests, lakes, rivers, and wild-life and to
have compassion for living creatures;
8. to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the
spirit of inquiry and reform;
9. to safeguard public property and to abjure violence;
10. to strive towards excellence in all spheres of
individual and collective activity, so that the nation
constantly rises to higher levels of endeavor and
achievement.

Further, one more Fundamental duty has been added

to the Indian Constitution by 86th Amendment of the
constitution in 2002.

11. who is a parent or guardian , to provide

opportunities for education to his child, or as the case
may be, ward between the age of six and fourteen
years.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY:
India is a country of different cultural diversities. The
diversity differs from state to state. This attracts the
people from all over the world.
But this has also divide
the people. The people are identified according to the
state they live in. And due to this people feels suppressed
and they also feel that they are not a part of this country.
Indian culture is very
famous all around the world and is praised by all the
people. This attracts the people but they are unaware of
the fact that this is dividing the people of this country.
This very sad to
see that the people of this country are not united they
also divide themselves into different religions and fight
among themselves. This is needed to be improved so
that people could unite and live together without any
dispute.
CONCLUSION
After the different tasks and the survey and research on
different topics I have come to know about various new
things. The best part of the task is that it has broaden our
mind and knowledge. The gender inequality ,caste
discrimination ,class discrimination and religion disputes
are the major reasons because of which our country is
divided , the people are divided. They have still not
broaden their thinking and even after the 70 years of
independence there is no unity among the people.
Unity is very
much needed in development of a country and to see a
developed India we first need to overcome the thinking
of the castes, gender and religion. And also the
government needs to expend more on the education and
health. The poor people needs to be provided with
proper shelter. The people living in poverty must be
given some help to overcome it and make their life
better.
Equality is the actual root to justice, liberty, fraternity
and dignity.
Also the people should be made aware of their rights so
that they could fight for their rights and also should be
made aware of their duties.
The activities had added so
many new information and facts to my knowledge and
now I am much aware of many new things.
This has also
changed my thinking regarding some of the things.
