When I was ve years old, my mother
always told me that happiness was the key
to life. When I went to school, they asked
me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I
wrote down happy.
They told me I didn't understand the
assignment. I told them they didn't
understand life. -John Lennon
The purpose of every individual is to be
happy but on contemplation, it is revealed
that happiness is more of a journey than a
destination. Creation of a happy
environment is the concern of every
stakeholder in the process of education.
The classroom is the venue for most of the
educational transactions in a child's life
and hence the theme of this year's
conference is centred around the
classroom and the happy child.
Promoting happiness in the classroom
requires awareness of child psychology
and cognizance of the need for holistic
development. Bertram and Pascal identify
three core elements of eective learning
disposition to learn; social competence
and self concept; and social and emotional
well being. However, education for
livelihood, the examination system
focusing on superior grades and
competitive job environment have limited
the denition of a positive classroom
atmosphere. Classrooms have come to
mean places where students arrive ready
to learn, work diligently to excel, complete
their home assignments accurately and

return on the next day eager to learn more.
The pressure to achieve desired academic
standards has led to neglect of social and
emotional developmental skills, hampered
creativity and in general taken away the joy
from learning.
To create a happy classroom environment,
we must separate achievement from well
being and re dene success. Children
must learn to be happy from within and
with themselves. They must realize that
happiness is not the result of success but
rather happiness results in success. It is
process rather than the product and a
means rather than the end. I am condent
that the eminent speakers will expound on
various aspects of this and the discussions
and deliberations will help us to create a
joyful atmosphere for learning in our
schools and ensure the physical and
mental well being of our children.
On a personal note, it has been a pleasure
and privilege to be associated with the
Executive body of the ASISC in the
capacity of President. The past year has
seen momentous changes in the
functioning of the association and
organization of activities. This has been
possible due to the vision and commitment
of the member principals. I express my
gratitude for the same and hope that the
spirit will continue in our future
endeavours.
I wish the 60th ASISC Conference all
success.

ASISC is on the threshold of an important
milestone the 60th Annual Conference.
We can look back at the years gone by with
a sense of satisfaction and pride and
remember with gratitude great men of
vision like late Father Hess who guided the
destiny of the Association for years in the
past.
The fast changing and challenging
educational scenario today calls for a deep
look at our role as modern day educators.
In order to make the transaction of
teaching learning more eective and
innovative, we invest in well-equipped
classrooms in order to enable the learners
to work with the latest technologies in a
conducive environment.
Internet today provides innite knowledge.
One can learn everything he wishes to.
The whole universe has become
accessible to a discerning learner.
It does not necessarily result in the
expected outcome if the learner is not a
happy child. High parental expectations,
peer group pressure, competitive school
culture and other such factors inuence a
child's performance to a great extent.
The system of education has come a long
way and also the close relationship
between the teacher and the student. It's

time for us to take a closer look at the
teaching - learning scenario as it exists
today.
We all believe in the joy of learning. But
can technology and sophisticated gadgets
bring joy of learning back into the
classroom?
We cordially invite you to deliberate on this
point of concern during our Annual
Conference.
Welcome to Jaipur, the pink city, the capital
of Rajasthan, the land of enchanting sand
dunes and alluring lakes. There is a lot

The National Conference provides us a
platform to present our views and share

It gives me immense pleasure to pen a few
lines for the Diamond Jubilee of AGM,
2017 brochure. I am sure plans are
underway to welcome each one of us to the
Pink City, Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The theme, Happy Classrooms Healthy
Minds has been aptly chosen and it is
quite relevant to the present times. It is a
fact that we are living in a highly
competitive and busy world. Our busy
lives are putting great stress and strain on
our physical and mental health. Daily we
hear and read in the newspapers about the
deaths, accidents and people taking
extreme steps to relieve their stress. The
same is aecting the children because we
are not really wired to the rapid pace we are
living.
Stress is one of the leading causes of
illness in today's world, and more and more
doctors and scientists are discovering vital
links between the body, mind and spirit. I
quote from the Holy Bible, A merry heart
maketh a cheerful countenance: but by
sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Prov. 15:13
It is time now that our education system
should move from 'transmission' model of
teaching to a 'transformative' model of
teaching and learning. Nelson Mandela
has rightly said, Children are our greatest
treasure. They are our future. The best

way to tap their potential and use their
energy in the right way is to provide good
education that will help them to develop a
positive attitude towards life. They are the
best natural resource and if they are
carefully nurtured, they will contribute to
the peace, harmony and development of
our nation.
It has been rightly pointed out that the
destiny of a nation is being shaped in
his/her classroom. The school is the
second home to the child and it is here they
develop their habits, attitudes, interests,
passions, etc. The teacher is the one who
makes a dierence in the life of a child.
Therefore, it is the teacher's responsibility
to plan for happy classrooms. The happy
school culture has a powerful positive
eect on students' brains, resulting in a
positive impact on student's behavior and
motivation to learn, reduce discipline
problems and increase success in their
endeavours.
May God bless all our eorts as we serve
God through the education of young
children. Let us remind ourselves that
providing balanced education to our
students is a man making process, not a
money making one. Hence, let us resolve
to commit our lives to this noble profession.

The Association of Schools for Indian School
Certicate (ASISC), a Registered Society, was
established in the year 1957 to assist the members
of the aliated schools of the Council for Indian
School Certicate, New Delhi in the solution of
educational problems and to foster the spread of
educational information and techniques through its
meetings and through any other medium which may
be useful, especially by gathering and disseminating
information on trends in education in India and
abroad.
With each passing year, there has been an increase 57th Annual Conference - 2014
in the number of member schools. Today 1600
schools across India are members of the
association.

The Association is committed to serving the aliated
schools and the nations children through high
quality educational endeavours, empowering them
to contribute towards a humane, just and pluralistic
society, promoting introspective living and creating

HISTORY OF CHILDREN'S ACADEMY
Children's Academy, a school with a reputation
for quality and excellence, was established in
1960 by Mrs. Myrtle J Singh. It was a humble
beginning with less than 10 students. But today
we proudly proclaim that now on the verge of
completing its 60 years in the eld of education,
it is truly an international organisation. Our
faculty and students play an integral role in
bringing the school into the global community
as an active and engaged contributor.
A School like Children's Academy has never a
dull moment. It seemed quite a daunting task at
the beginning but most satisfying at the end.
Diving into the past brought forth iridescent
gems- all those committed souls who gave the
best of their years to build up this institution and
all those events that made this institution what it
is today.
The story of Childers's Academy is nothing less
than a saga-with its gripping moments and
heroic struggles right from the word 'go'- its
