Angular and Linear Velocity

Converting from angular to linear velocity

Angular velocity(, "omega") - the rate sometihng rotates about an axis
o degrees/second, rad/second, revolutions/minute (rpm)
Linear velocity (v) - the rate something is dispalced (moves)
o kilometers/hour, meters/second, feet/second
For each rotation of a cylinder, it moves a distance equal to its circumference
o Circumference = distance/revolution = D
o Therefore linear velocity is the rotation rate times circumference
o v = D

Center of Gravity
Centre of Gravity (CoG)
Simplifying a object with distributed weight to a centroid location at which the weight of
the object acts
Found by using a weighted average of the CoG of each part within object

mobject xCoG = mi xi
(8 + 1 + 2 + 5) xCoG = 8 x + 1 x + 2 (3 3) + 5 (3 x)
xCoG = 8 + 1 + 2 3 + 5 38 + 1 + 2 + 5 x = 3016 x = 1.88 x
yCoG = 8 3 + 1 + 2 3 + 5 8 + 1 + 2 + 5 y = 3616 y = 2.25 y
