Later influence[edit]

The ancient mystery schools were a subject of fascination for 19th and early-20th
century German and French classical scholars. This literature had an enormous
influence on European culture in the late 19th century. Psychiatrist and
psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung borrowed metaphors from this literature to reframe
his theories and the charismatic movement based on them.[8][9]
