B.A Film Studies - Teaches students to understand the history, aesthetics, business, and social
significance of motion pictures and provides practical training in artistic and
technical aspects of filmmaking
- Courses cover all modes of cinematic expression: narrative, documentary,
avant garde/experimental, and animation.
- The critical studies curriculum includes courses in film analysis, history,
rhetoric and theory, and a wide range of world cinema. The film production
curriculum encompasses every aspect of the integrated film production
process, including screenwriting, directing, producing, cinematography,
camera operation, lighting, sound recording and design, 3D and 2D
animation, and interactive media.
- Film Studies majors produce over 500 motion pictures each year in every
creative filmmaking mode: narrative, documentary, experimental, and
animation.
Admission Requirements:
- Upon completing FST 200 Introduction to Film Study, a student may apply to become a film studies
(FST) major. The Film Studies Department accepts a limited number of students each semester.
Admission to the major is based solely upon a student's grade in FST200.
- Students seeking to major in film studies before completing FST 200 may declare a pre-film studies
(PFST) major through the "Major Declaration" page in Seaport.
