 CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is about becoming a committed member of the local and worldwide Christian
family: it marks the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith
into which you have been baptized and your intention to live a life of committed
discipleship. This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the
confirming bishop. The Church also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to
enable you to live in the way of Jesus.
The purpose of confirmation preparation is to ensure that those who are confirmed have a
proper understanding of what it means to live as a disciple of Christ within the life of the
Church of England. Preparation sessions encourage candidates to grow in their Christian
faith through prayer, reflection, studying the Bible, participating actively in the life of the
church and demonstrating
PILGRIMAGE AND SOCIAL AWARENESS TRIP TO PALESTINE 19 TH -26TH
FEBRUARY 2018

On this seven night trip we will stay both in East Jerusalem and Beit Sahour (Bethlehem).
We will visit the main pilgrimage sites in and around Jerusalem and Bethlehem but will not
be going to Galilee. A significant part of the trip will involve learning about life in
Palestine, meeting local Christians and visiting various charitable projects. The cost of the
trip based on a group of 12 -14 will be 600 per person in a twin room and 785 in a single,
plus flights.

carols to mark the beginning of Advent.
THE WINTER STAR
St Nicholas Church, West Tanfield is planning a performance of The Winter Star on
Friday 8th December at 7.00 p.m. It is a work which includes everybody taking part,
starting with parents encouraging their children to go to sleep in preparation for Christmas
Day. A bright, shining star disturbs the childrens sleep and opens doors to the story of
The Nativity. A short piece in which everybody participates but we do need parents and
children. A rehearsal from 5.00 p.m. until 6.00 p.m will take place on Sunday 19 th
November in St Nicholas Church. Please join us.
SINGING 4 FUN Tuesday 14th November, 1.15 p.m. in Masham Church. Do you like
singing in the bath? Would you like to meet some new people? Would you enjoy singing in
a group of friendly people? No need to be able to read music. No need to sing like
Pavarotti! Anybody who would like to have a go will be welcome.
PRAM PRAISE Masham A service for young children and their
parents/carers. The second Tuesday in the month. The next service will
be on Tuesday 14th November at 2.30 p.m. A very short and informal
service, followed by toys to play with and a chance for adults to chat
over coffee/tea. The service is geared to the needs of very young, pre-
school, children. Everything will finish in time for parents to collect
older children from school.
ECCLESIASTES 3.1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a
time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up
what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and
a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and

REVELATION 21. 1-7
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first
earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the
new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will
be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear
from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain
will be no more, for the first things have passed away.
And the one who was seated on the throne said, See, I am making all things
new. Also he said, Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.
Then he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the begin-
ning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of
the water of life. Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be
their God and they will be my children.
