Background of Chaldal.com

Chaldal.com was founded in January 2013 based on Dhaka city. Chaldal operates an
online shop for necessities in Bangladesh. It now successfully serves the entire city,
offering beyond 4000 different items including basic grocery items, office stationery,
electronics, baby care, beauty and healthcare, pet care and home appliance products and
more.

The company was founded by Mr. Wassem Alim along with his friend Mr. Zia Ashraf and
ex-colleague TejasViswanath. Mr. Zia Ashraf was appointed as COO (Chief Operating
Officer). Mr. TejasViswanath, former Sigfig colleague of Mr. Alim, was appointed as
CTO. Initially, the founder's own fund of $ 40,000. Since then, they have found very good
investors. Y Combinator has invested for Chaldal. Y combinatory is an American
company, which invests for start ups.Fortune has called Y Combinator "a spawning
ground for emerging tech giants" and Fast Company has called YC "the world's most
powerful start-up incubator".

Problems

As the company was growing, it was facing unprecedented problems every day. It was
struggling really hard in some of the core areas such as:
Maintaining the supply chain & timely purchase of inventory
Keeping track of customers order
Mapping timely delivery
Forecasting demand

The Solutions

Chaldal.com introduced ERP tools to deal with the problems. With the help of SAP, it
dealt with the problems in a lot more better way. It used inventory tracking to always keep
the management updated about current inventory level. The supply chain and purchase
department became well organized with the help of real-time communication between
various departments. Customers orders are processing in more faster fashion. The delivery
persons are now self-empowered because they are getting updates about customers
requirement and inventory level instantly.

Another important development is called Retention Engine, introduced in 2017 is a


compact communication process which is automated to send users communication
materials based on the order duration and usability with discounts, offers and promotions.

Benefits

The company gained its success by keeping its customer loyal & the customers
remained loyal because they got excellent services from the company.
In 2017, its sales increased about 9 times from 2015s sales.
Currently it is getting about 650 orders per day
Every month it is getting about 2500 new custom
Timely delivery all around the city
