The Education Undergraduate Society arranges and provides Professional Development


workshops for education students at the University of Lethbridge. This letter is written at the
request of Kirsten Chornawka who attended the following seminars during the months of
September, October, and November of 2017:

ATA: Teacher Wellness


This workshop asks, How can teachers learn to take greater responsibility for their personal and
professional wellness to ensure that they have the capacity to help others? Teachers will reflect upon
their current state of wellness and consider approaches to improve their health and well-being. The
interrelationship of the physical, emotional, social and psychological states will be explored and ideas for
making informed choices about improving quality of life will be shared.- Alberta Teachers Association

Mark Bruce: Power of Positivity


How can you remain a positive role model to your students at all times? Join Mark Bruce where he will
provide 11 strategies that will encourage us to be positive and to promote positivity in our classrooms.

Ever Active Schools: Health and Wellness Initiatives in Schools


Ever Active Schools is an initiative that assists school communities in creating healthy school
communities. Through fostering social and physical environments that support improving the health and
learning outcomes of students in Alberta. Join Brian Torrance as he discusses an overview of
comprehensive school health and dig down into some specific health and wellness initiatives in schools.

Greg Ogilvie and Dawn Burleigh: Tips and Treats: Strategies for Improving the Practicum
Experience
Are you interested in avoiding a ghoulish practicum experience? Do you want to elude a visit from the
ghost of practicums gone awry? If so, this workshop is for you! Based on ongoing research about the
influence of supervision dynamics on student teachers experiences and professional growth, this
presentation will explore ways that student teachers can enhance their experience and optimize learning
during the practicum. Workshop participants will be provided with research-based strategies for
communicating with mentors and being proactive in ensuring feedback will foster professional growth. In
keeping with the Halloween theme, tips will be accompanied by tasty treats.
Richelle Marynowski: Cooperative (Active) Learning
Are you wanting to learn about Cooperative Learning? Are you wanting to learn how to get your students
up and active throughout your lesson? If so, this PD session is for you! Join Richelle Marynowski where
she will illustrate three cooperative learning activities that you can use in your classroom. Be prepared to
move during this session!
