Current Learning:

Language Arts: In writing we are finally wrapping up our lessons on narrative writing.
We will focus on revising, editing, and publishing our work. Ive really enjoyed
conferencing with each child to help them on a focus for improving their writing.
In Reading, we will be focusing on using information gained from the illustrations and
words in a text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.
Specifically, we will be closely identifying character traits this week (internal & external).

Fundations: We will finish Unit 6 on Friday we are reviewing the vowel-consonant-e (v-
e, vowel sounds are long or say their name) syllable type, two syllable words with closed
and v-e syllable types, compound words, spelling options, the s making both the s & z
sounds, and ive as an suffix (active) and as an exception to the v-e rule (give, the I is
not long). Sample words are hope, confuse, reptile, olive, and inventive. The trick
words you need to practice at home are: only, house, move, right, place, together. I
did not send home the typical practice sheets because we have been working on
those in class.

Math: We continue to work on Unit 3. We hope to assess this unit before Thanksgiving
break. The last part of the unit we are working on is story problems. This week the
students will make their own parcels and presents pictures and story problems, then
solve each others. The kids continue to enjoy the variety of games and investigations
this math program provides.

Social Studies: Im really excited to announce that our class will be a part of a
nationwide Post Card Exchange this year!! I have communicated with teachers
across the country and we will be receiving postcards from each state as well as
sending postcards to each state (as well as Thailand and Guam)!! I will send a letter
home this week in your childs take-home folder to explain more about how we will
distribute the cards.

Have a GREAT week!
