Objective(s) Students will be introduced to the Spanish language by beginning


with basic introductions, greetings (saludos), and farewells
(despedidas). Students will meet their teacher and begin
developing a positive classroom environment.
Standards Standard 1.1 Communication Interpersonal/Conversational.
The student engages in conversations, provides and obtains
information, expresses feelings and emotions, and exchanges
opinions.
Standard 4.1 Comparisons Language. The student understands
the nature of language by making comparisons between the target
language and English.
Standard 5.1 Communities Application. The student applies
language skills and cultural knowledge both within and beyond
the school setting.

Lesson Outcome At the end of this lesson students will be able to greet one
another, introduce themselves, and ask their peers how they are
doing.

5 - Greet Students Hola Clase!
Aud/ Vis - Encourage them to respond.
- Say Me llamo Senor Dills
- Say: Repitan Hola Senor Dills
- (Make sure the class repeats this)
- Switch to English
5 - Introduce self in English, Allow students a
Aud/Vis break from TL, Explain what my job will be,
Then explain that I will speak to them in
Spanish but I will make it so they can
understand. EXPLAIN THAT THIS IS THE
BEST WAY FOR THEM TO LEARN. THIS
IS HOW THEIR PEER IS LEARNING
ENGLISH.
5 - Switch to Spanish
Aud/Vis - Introduce self by using the PPT - IN
SPANISH.

2 Transition:
- Explain that we are going to play a game so
that I can learn their names but we will learn
to introduce ourselves in Spanish. Put game
slide on board with instructions and cues (me
llamo como te llamas?)

10 Purposeful Activity: Ball Toss


Kin/ Aud - Students will stand in a circle. The teacher
then explains to the class in English that
before a peer tosses the ball they will ask
Como te llamas and then toss the ball to
another peer. The peer will then respond Me
llamo ________. And repeat. NOTE:
EVERYONE HAS TO GO, so they put their
hands out in a cup to catch the ball, and once
they get it they put their hands behind their
back.
- The teacher explains this to the ESL student in
Spanish.
- The teacher will model the game with the ESL
student. Me llamo Senor Dills Como te
llamas? Student will know to respond Me
llamo ________.
- Students will then play this game. If there is
time do it twice. Perhaps three times
THROW IT TO A DIFFERENT PERSON
EACH TIME.

Transition:
- Teacher says: Sientense por favor and
models this instruction. While students are
sitting teacher says (in English) we are going
to talk about greetings.

Instruction:
- Greet students using Hola clase and
continue until they respond Hola Senor Dills
- PPT: Buen@s Dias/ Tardes/ Noches (point out
the times on the clock and allow students to
share what they would say)
- PPT: Como Estan? Como Estas?
- PPT: Yo estoy bien/ mas o menos/ mal
- PPT: Y tu?
- PPT: Despedidas (Farewells)

Closure:
- Explain how students can ask me questions,
Duolingo, Word Reference, Next week.

Accommodation(s) Explanation in L1 & L2 as necessary until students are used to


90% TL. Extra support for ESL student in Spanish so that they
can shine.
