Transportation in Ho Chi Minh city

1.Status
1.1.Overview
Ho Chi Minh City's traffic is the sum total of many types of traffic available for travel
within the city and between Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas.
After the renovation, the city's economy boomed as the biggest driving force, attracting
the population of the whole country and the southern delta. Since 1986, the master planning
and transportation planning mainly focus on development in the inner city. The structure
of urban planning focuses, so all activities of the city people are concentrated here. In a
small space everything is pent up there, population density soaring, making the city
increasingly more crisis. Look at map below we can see the planning according to the
structure is the main cause of traffic density, population increase compared to the
surrounding area.

1.2.Motorcycles
Motorcycles with high mobility, Chinese motorcycles flood the market with cheap,
most people can afford. The rapid increase of personal transportation. Comparing the
means of transport in Ho Chi Minh City in 1995 with other Southeast Asian cities, it is
easy to see the number of motorized vehicles dominate. The composition of motorcycles
has not decreased, while the composition of automobile components is increasing trend.
According to statistics in 2006, cars (4-wheel vehicles) in the whole city had 296,143 x
average volume of 10,064 m 3 (3.4 m in length, 1.48 m in width, 2 m in height) = 2,980,383
m3; Motorcycles have 2,917,502 units x average volume (length 1,710m, width 0.780m,
height 0.970m) = 3,774,623.1m3. As the main means of transportation, flexibility and space
occupied by the road are greater than cars, which suggests that motorbikes are now a means
of causing high congestion.

Figure 2: The structure of personal transportation

According to a report from Houtrans Pages 2-39, high demand for travel among districts
such as Binh Thanh - District 1, District 6 - Binh Chanh District, District 8 - District 5,
District 1 - District 5. People go to work and go to school. This indicates that the drivers
involved in traffic congestion are workers, students (see map 2). With the income of
students and workers can only own means is a motorcycle.
1.3.Public transport infrastructure
We see that the inner city density is equal to 1/2 of the developed area and is equal to
1/3 of the suburban area. This is unreasonable in traffic planning. Ring roads, highways,
metro lines, the support of other roads of the provinces around no. Seaports are deep in the
inner city, transporting goods makes the traffic more congestion. There is only one kind of
road, lacking links between types of traffic.
Figure 3: Traffic patterns in developed countries
The city has not developed large transportation such as rail freight specialized goods.
The bus system has not met the public transportation requirements. Minority bus routes
and poor service, robbery, pickpockets in the car made the visitors afraid to use this means,
only students, low-income students to use them. . Currently, the number of buses in Ho Chi
Minh City is 3,414 vehicles, taxis are 5000 vehicles, can only meet 4.5% of public
transport. Control system lights are damaged, the place is lacking, the place is not used,
with poor awareness of traffic participation of the people. If there is a problem with the
signal system, there will be a jam. Foreign funding sources installed signal lights can not
be used for a long time, with no reason to repair money from the authorities. In the inner
city road is not really wide, the road has a width of 23m to 30m high proportion. On small
roads with a bus with a width that occupies nearly half of the road surface.

1.4.Road flooded
The heavy rain lasted nearly 2 hours in the evening of September 30, 2017, causing a
series of roads in some districts in Ho Chi Minh City flooded heavily, many people had to
stop waiting for the sprint.
Figure 5: Flooded on a route

1.5.Traffic jam
There is no fixed rule for the time the traffic jams to happen, but it is worst during the
rush hour when everyone is in a hurry to get work or come back home. Whenever it rains,
the traffic jam gets more terrible with the joining of flooding. Taxis are extremely hard to
catch or wave during the downpour. However, it only takes about 30 minutes on average
for a standstill and 2 hours to get through the worst, not really bad compared to that of other
countries.
While the rapid increase in the use of coupled with the deterioration of roads caused by
disordered roads make the matter worse, the most annoying thing about the traffic jam is
the way people react when being stuck at the congestion. Most road users ride their
motorbikes on the pavement rather than waiting calmly, or they constantly use their horns
to hasten riders in the front, even shouting at them from time to time. More luckily,
bicyclists can leisurely carry their "war- horses" on their backs and thread their way through
the messy matrixes.

district, HCM city.

1.6.People's awareness
The majority of people are poorly aware of traffic and maintain traffic in Vietnam. The
majority of people are poorly aware of traffic and maintain traffic in Vietnam. Assuming
motorbike travel from home to workplace can be a problem when joining the traffic. Heavy
garbage on the roads is a cause of flooding. Many teenagers rush out on the street. When
encountering traffic jams, then try to wriggle through the fast. At the red light is 5 seconds
red lights have passed, the motorcycle behind the habit is still horns when preparing the
green light.
2.Solution
The State accelerates the implementation of government decisions such as Urban
Planning and Transport to 2025, Regional Transport Planning, Decisions on Solutions to
Traffic Congestion 2011-2015. In particular, the most attention to build the public transport
system, ring road.
The most important thing is to build the public transport system, ring road. Renovate
the mechanism and encourage private enterprises to invest in building traffic. As
experienced in the capital city of Tokyo (Japan), in parallel with state transportation, the
private railway transport system is very high.
For motorcycles, they must strictly limit the importation and production thereof;
Increased motor vehicle taxation for motorcycles for individuals and companies. For cars,
taxis need to have limited measures, high taxes when using. To invest in the development
of the public transport system; Construction of high-rise mobile parking, underground
mining when building offices, high-rise buildings. For buses need to improve service,
cheap, safe to passengers peace of mind when joining this public transport. There should
be incentives for private enterprises to invest in this service.
Street order should be rearranged, combined with the LRT model. With the same space,
but in HCM City, the encroachment of the trade streets is unproductive and confusing,
causing the loss of urban landscapes.

Figure 7: Situation of road encroachment in HCMC (left) and use of LRT in France
(right)
The advances of information technology in urban transport management, such as
Transportation Demand Management (TDM), should be applied. The signal lights must
ensure traffic to smooth traffic. The Ministry of Construction should issue criteria, decree
guiding the design of commercial centers, supermarkets required, associated with parking
design.
The State should introduce an administrative sanctioning mechanism for traffic
participants to drink alcohol, to use the telephone while on traffic to limit traffic accidents;
Traffic planning information, urban planning information should be widely disseminated
and accurate to the people.
It is important to educate ourselves from the young age, so that our children will not be
affected by the bad habits of our father. It is possible to change the educational model as
Japan is prior moral education rather than numerical.

II.Littering in Vietnam
1.Status
The Vietnamese were so irresponsible that they were unaware that they had eaten it at
home. As in the half-rural half-towns there are no garbage trucks, they throw away where,
burning, burning even the land is tight enough to throw the road, to the river, where it came
to, but not where to . If that is the case of throwing litter out of the beach or outside of the
public bins, or even Vietnam, there is no public toilet.
Figure 8: An polluted river

2.Solution (Application of information system)

First of all, it is necessary to educate the pupils, to learn from now, at an early age, the
second must propagate about the harmful effects of throwing rubbish into the lives of
people, third job Waste disposal must be done seriously, the fourth punishment in the
littering must be fair.
Apply the information system in educating the student's sense of well-being by tracking
achievement recognized by parents, neighbors by taking pictures before and after garbage
removal in an area. Children can be paid for these good jobs.
