CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE 2017 REGIONAL RESEARCH CONGRESS

To : Schools Division Superintendents


SGOD & CID Chief, SEPS for Planning & Research

1. One of the major Strategic Directions of DepEd 12s ONE SOCCSKSARGEN flagship program
is instituting Research-Based Program & Policy Development. In line with this, the Policy,
Planning and Research Division (PPRD) of this region is now calling for submission of research
entries for the conduct of the 2017 Regional Research Congress on November 20, 2017 in
General Santos City. The specific venue shall be announced later through a Regional Advisory.

2. With the theme, Sustaining Research Culture for the Institutionalization of Evidenced-
based Mechanisms, this years congress aims to:
a. showcase the latest researches conducted towards strategically improving access, quality
and governance of basic education especially completed researches under BERF;
b. strengthen alignment of research initiatives with the Basic Education Research Agenda
(BERA);
c. capacitate educators and policy makers on the new trends of research techniques and
methodologies; and
d. foster the culture of conducting quality research in aid of evidenced-based policy
formulation/enhancement, program development, and replication of research-enabled
practices.
3. In order to maximize the opportunity to learn high quality research, the participants to this
Congress are as follows: Regional Functional Division Chiefs and Supervisors; Schools Division
Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents; School Division Office Chiefs - SGOD and CID;
SDO personnel handling research-related tasks; School Heads of Public and Private Elementary
and Secondary Schools; selected Master Teachers; and BERF recipients who have completed
their research projects. The number of participants to this congress are indicated below:

4. The 2015 BERF recipients who have completed their research projects and have fully
liquidated shall be awarded with Certificate of Completion during the Awarding Ceremony.
Hence, those who have not yet fully liquidated are encouraged to comply.

5. The expenditures of this congress to cover two (2) snacks (AM & PM), lunch and other
operational expenses shall be borne by the Regional Office to be charged to its BERF, District
Synthesis funds and MOOE. However, the traveling expenses and allowance of the participants

to the venue are chargeable against MOOE or local funds subject to the usual auditing and
accounting rules and regulations.
6. The number of official research entries that every School Division Office can endorse should
be based on the following themes of the Basic Education Research Agenda (BERA) which are
indicated below:

2017 REGIONAL RESEARCH CONGRESS GUIDELINES

1. The research congress is open to all research practitioners and enthusiasts in the
Department of Education particularly Division/District Supervisors, School Heads and Master
Teachers.

2. With the theme: Sustaining Research Culture for the Institutionalization of


Evidenced-based Mechanisms, the Congress shall focus on showcasing Educational and
Action Researches conducted in the school, district, division and regional level to address
problems related to access, quality and governance of basic education focusing on the following
themes shall be based on the national Basic Education Research Agenda - Theme 1: Teaching
and Learning; Theme 2: Child Protection; Theme 3: Human Resource Development; and Theme
4: Governance.

3. The conference will replicate the usual conduct of research fora in the local and
international venues. The management of the conference will be the call of DepEd Regional
Office XII.

4. Official research entries shall be screened by the Schools Division Review Committee
(SDRC) before endorsing them to the Regional Review Committee (RRC) one copy of the full
version of their paper which shall not exceed 3,500 words (about 10 pages in double space,
using A4 size bond paper with arial font style, and font size 12 not later than November 10,
2017 and email it through its official regional website at region12@deped.gov.ph and at
glennmave9@gmail.com. Please follow strictly the format.

5. The full version of the paper with the author, date in-text referencing format, shall have
the following parts:

6. Paper presenters shall be guided by the following pointers:


a. The oral presentation shall last for 15 minutes per Oral Presenter with 5 minutes
for open forum.
b. The availability of LCD projector will be provided by the organizer.
c. Presenters may distribute hand-outs / brochure to interested participants after the
presentation.

7. Each Paper Presenter for Oral Presentation will present the gist of the following:
Introduction; Research Questions/Objectives; Conceptual Framework (only if necessary);
Methodology & Research Design; Summary of Results & Discussion; and Conclusion &
Recommendations/Reflections or Implications

8. For poster presentation, presenters are advised to use vertical (portrait) lay out at 48x36
inches size. Font size is not less than 18 font size. Poster should include the Title; Abstract;
Context and Rationale; Action Research Questions; Innovation, Intervention and Strategy;
Action Research Methods; Results & Discussions; Conclusions & Recommendation, and
References. For uniformity, the organizer shall prepare the stand. It shall be displayed on the
designated area the day before the congress proper.
