Nervous System

The nervous system is a complex collection of nerves called neurons which send signals to

different parts of the body. The nervous system is like a power box which contains a panel of

switches and each switch has different receptors connected to the part of the body. The neuron

sends the signal and the musculoskeletal system reacts to the signal. The two components of the

nervous system are the central nervous system and peripheral. The central nervous system (CNS)

controls the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The peripheral nerous system is in charge of sensory,

such like the reaction to touching a hot pot. The CNS is broken down to two subcategories

referred to the somatic/ voluntary and the autonomic/ involuntary. The voluntary controls

sensory receptors, brain and muscle. The involuntary regulates blood pressure, and breathing.

Common disorders and diseases involving the nervous system are ALS, MS, epilepsy,

seizures, and Alzheimers. ALS weakens the muscles and physical condition and does not allow

signals to properly be sent to the musculoskeletal system leaving the patient in a progression of

losing the ability to complete certain activities such like walking. MS is when the immune

system attacks the neuron coating. Epilepsy and seizures are similar where there are abnormal

signals the brain discharges to the body and the body contracts. Alzheimers occurs as the

neurons in the brain are unable to make connections and the individual slowly deteriorates, it is

one of the most depressing ways of gradual death for the patient and family.

As an individual gets older degeneration starts to become more apparent, the signals passed

by the neurons slow down and the rhythm and synchronization of the system slow down which

makes it more difficult to move and adapt to new environments. Signs of natural degeneration in
an individual may be trouble with balance, movement, talking, breathing, and heart function.

Ways in which may increase the health, prevent or rehabilitate, and enhance the ability of the

nervous system are learning new languages, reading, sleeping, exercising, and sleeping right.
www.psychology24.org/how-to-strengthen-and-quicken-your-central... This article elaborates on different

mechanisms in which an individual may part take in to strengthen their nervous system. One of the

examples given was enhancing and increasing strength in proprioception, which means balance. Ways

one can improve and help proprioception is by practicing that require balancing; for example surfing, or

riding a bike. These increase neuron transmittance to muscles and balance helping prevent and increase

strength of the nervous system.
