Minutes from August Meeting

The meeting commenced at 7:30PM, with 14 members present. The minutes were read with no errors or omissions. The
minutes were accepted by Cindy, and seconded by Dianne. It was suggested that the minutes be passed around before
the meeting, instead of them being read. We will try this at the next meeting.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Account is up to date. Expense sheet for the Kakabeka Street Fair was passed around.
Treasurer’s report was accepted by Bill Hickman and seconded by Dianne McParland.

COMMUNICATIONS: The website is up to date. We encourage everyone to take advantage of its accessibility and to promote it.
All forms, such as entry, membership, and show programs are available for download or print. Also high point winners have are
displayed on the site.

SPORTS: We are very grateful for everyone who came out on Sunday to the
gymkhana and volunteered. Gymkhanas are going well, although we would T h e S ta n le y
like to again remind participants of the dress code.

SHOW: Everything is on board! Trail pattern is in the works! Programs are

finished and also contain the reining and western patterns for rider’s advantage. Highway 588
Programs can be found in a variety of places, as well as our website.
Tammy needs a trailer, or a truck to transport jumps and things needed Home of the
for the show. Please contact Tammy if you are available.
Tammy has been pricing the list of things she brought up at the last
Famous
meeting, and almost everything has been graciously donated. She hopes to "STANLEY BURGER"
have the majority purchased by next year. She needs grey and burgundy paint,
and was hoping someone may have some lying around that they are willing to Open 7 days a

Still in need of one year end show sponsor ($150.00), and one year
end buckle sponsor ($100.00). All high end prizes have been ordered. 12 Noon to 1 a.m.
PUBLICITY: Director not in attendance.

YOUTH: The Old Timer’s gymkhana had 9 members and 0 non members in attendance. The youth made a small profit.
FUNDRAISING: Directors not in attendance.

OLD BUSINESS:
TRAIL RIDE: We discussed the trail ride and decided an 11 AM start time
worked well. We will serve lunch again, therefore entry fee will be $10 for members,
and $15 for non members.
THUNDERSTAKES: Unfortunately again this year, this event was not well Certified Horseman
promoted or sponsored. Although we have cancelled this event in previous years, we Association
are carrying this event through, however we do need a minimum of 10 riders in order Level 2 English &
to make this happen. Entry fee is $50 for members and non members. Pre Western Coach
registration is REQUIRED, and entry fee is due Wednesday, September 8, 2010.
Please call Bill Hickman @ 577-0418 to register. Experience in Hunter,
It was suggested that Thunder Stakes could be ran during Murillo Fair next

year. We felt this may not be a good idea because Murillo horse rings are always
booked up and we would definitely need a commitment from riders. Saddle Seat, Hunter
KAKABEKA STREET FAIR: Thanks to everyone that volunteered! We Over Fences, Gymkhana
had an unreal super group that were super busy! This fundraiser was very & Trail.
successful, but I guess we over anticipated and have left over product. We have an
opportunity to have a vendor booth at Murillo Fair that would benefit us in selling the
remaining product. We are hoping that we will sell out on Saturday, and make this a Cindy Gallant
one day event instead of two. We can not commit to this without a set number of
committed volunteers. We discussed this further and fortunately had enough members commit themselves to volunteer for the
whole day Saturday. YAY! So, this Saturday at the Murillo Fair, please support us at our BBQ! If however, you find yourself looking
for something to do, more volunteers are always welcome! 
BANQUET: Tickets can be purchased through certain members. Tickets are also available at Double D Tack Shop &
Thunder Bay feeds, Carol’s Cakes & Bakery (between 8AM & 5 PM), and possibly Thunder Bay Co-op. Tickets are always
available at any LLHA event, including fundraisers.
MBRA: Our gymkhanas did not get MBRA sanctioned like hoped. This is something we will be looking into further next
season.
A member, Jennifer, thanked LLHA for the addition of the Lead Line class this year. This was very successful, educational,
and inspiring to new riders. I, Terri-LynnYerxa, also had a friend and her family of 7 join because of the lead line class, and we now
have 3 new junior riders because of it! (And they also have 2 more horses…3 junior riders = 3 horses!) Just a reminder that the
Lead Line classes are restricted to the Youth Division.

NEW BUSINESS: There was a suggestion that we have a master volunteer list. This way when the club needs
volunteers we can call upon those who are willing, instead of calling upon members who do not wish to devote their time.
It was suggested, and accepted that in the 2011 membership form there will be a volunteer section for members to check
off. (Thanks Cindy for the awesome suggestion!)
The idea of a “pre-run” was brought up. This means riders would be able to “pre-run” the next event/gymkhana in
the case that they were not able to attend the next gymkhana. Concerns arose about certain conditions such as weather,
ring, behavior, etc.. It was decided that this should be brought up at the March 2011 meeting when our rules are
reviewed.
There was a discussion about the flag picking event. There is a rule that the barrel must have a bottom, but
perhaps we could add sand to the bottom of the barrel so the flag wouldn’t bounce out of the barrel so easily. This also
should be discussed at the March 2011 meeting when our rules are reviewed.
.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM. $14.25 was collected for our timer fund.
