Safety
The following notes must be carefully read and completely under-
stood before the instrument is put into service.
w The VIBROCORD FFT data collector may not be used when its
housing is open.
w Operation and maintenance are to be performed only by
properly trained personnel. WARNING!
w Repairs to the VIBROCORD FFT data collector may be carried
out only by a PRFTECHNIK AG-authorized service technician.
w Only original spare parts and accessories may be used.
w Only properly functioning, regularly-maintained electrical
equipment may be used. Any defects such as broken plugs or
loose sockets must be corrected immediately. Damaged cables
must be replaced by an authorized service technician.
w Any alterations that affect instrument design or operating
safety require explicit prior approval of PRFTECHNIK AG.
Operation
Battery disposal
The compact batteries are to be disposed of in an environmentally
acceptable manner at the end of their operating life.
When empty, the batteries can be left in commercial or community
collecting boxes. The batteries are empty when the instrument is:
switched off and the charge status LED AUX is illuminated.
after the batteries have been used for a lengthy period and the no
longer operate perfectly.
To make sure, stick some adhesive tape onto the battery pole or put
each of the batteries individually into a plastic bag.
F Note
The instrument serial number shown here must not be confused
with the operating software (firmware) ID number. The ID number
appears in the display upon startup and is used for firmware
registration (see page 4-2).

Transducer connections
The VIBROCORD FFT data collector allows connection of two
transducers with analog voltage or current output. The correspond-
ing QLA sockets, marked 'Channel A' and 'Channel B', are located on
the back of the instrument.
The reference transducer is connected to the trigger input using an 8-
pin plug (LEMOSA).

Transducer input
The two analog measurement channels are not galvanically insu-
lated from each other. Therefore, before taking 2-channel mea-
surements on different machines, you should either ground them WARNING!
properly or use electrically insulated transducers.
When unplugging the transducer cables, take care to retract the
bushing on the QLA plugs in order to avoid damage (see above).
Attention!
Trigger input
When plugging in the trigger cable, note the proper plug orienta-
tion indicated by the groove on the socket and the marking on the
plug itself. Never rotate the cable plugs in their sockets as that
could damage the pins of the plug.

Multimeter measurement
All multimeter measurements follow the same general preparatory
procedure:
Preparation:
- Make sure the main battery is charged.
- Check the probe and cables needed for measurement (including
brackets for RPM measurement and cable extensions)
- If the display lamp is to be used, make sure its batteries are
charged and obtain replacements if necessary.
- Visually inspect permanently-mounted accelerometers; clean and
repair them if necessary.
- Prepare mobile measurement locations (e.g. TIPTECTOR).
- Switch on VIBROCORD.

Normalization adjustment
Under ideal conditions (dBa=0), the normalized carpet value of a
bearing in good condition equals 5 dBn. The true dBa value equals INFO
the difference from the measured value, only with the initial value
(dBi) normalized carpet value.
Example:
Normalized measurement on a new bearing: 9 dBn.
The adjustment value is therefore:
9 dBn - 5 dBn = 4 dBa.

4. Start the RPM measurement with the START softkey.

5. After the RPM measurement, install the vibration transducer;
press OK to start the shock pulse measurement.
F
The dBi value is automatically calculated from the diameter and
RPM.
The dBa value enables the dBi value to be subsequently adjusted, Note
i.e. before the dBa value can be entered, the dBi value (diameter,
RPM) must be known.
For reliable shock pulse measurement, the dBi value should lie
within a range of -20 to +40.
The NO NORM softkey lets you switch back to non-normalized
measurement (dBsv).
F
displayed in the unit dBsv.
In the normalization screen (NORM, see sections a. and b.), you Note
can calculate the dBi or dBia value by varying the diameter, the
dBa value and the RPM. These changes only apply to this screen.
Measured values are not normalized.

either automatically (in Route mode only) or must be triggered
manually with the AUTO dialog key (multimeter, balancing). The
setting is retained for subsequent measurements. To reset the setting,
you must delete the measurement data from the display using the

Autoscale
The display range is automatically adjusted to the highest value of
the signal if the parameter 'Y axis' is set to 'Auto' in the display setup
(see page 3-10).

Data recorder
If you want to monitor particular temporary events or states of a
measurement location over a longer period of time, use the data
recorder in VIBROCORD. This function continuously executes the
selected measurement task and automatically saves the measured
values in the instrument. The resulting dataset is then transmitted to
a PC and evaluated as a measured value trend using the OMNITREND
PC software.

2. Press SETUP and open the required measurement setup.
3. Press RECORD to select the data recorder: RECORD
Route measurement
A route is a collection of repetitive measurements taken in a specified
sequence. The route measurements are collected at regular intervals.
The route is created on the PC using OMNITREND software and
transferred to the VIBROCORD FFT data collector. An essential
component of the route is the so-called Route Expert:
3. Routes that are already complete but have not yet been uploaded
to the PC can be repeated. In particular, individual measurement
tasks can be repeated.
4. After the uploading of a route to the PC, this route is deleted in the
VIBROCORD FFT data collector.
5. Measurement tasks at a measurement location are automatically
executed one after the other if the same transducer is used.
FNote
The VIBROCORD must be updated to version 1.34/2.04 or higher
in order to communicate with the OMNITREND software version
1.3/ 2.0 or higher.

VIBCODE
One of the biggest pitfalls to condition trending is ensuring reliable
measurement. Missing measurents or ones taken at the wrong
location or through use of improper technique can throw off the
trend curve. The result: unnecessary intervention or, worse, a false
sense of security as machine condition deteriorates.
Now, however the VIBCODE measurement system ensures total
trending reliabity by automatically identifying the measurement
location. The intelligent VIBCODE transducer locks onto the specially
encoded VIBCODE mesaurement stud to read its location and take all
required types of readings with perfect repeatability. The unique
code for each stud is generated by OMNITREND PC software, which
also programs the measurements to be taken at each location.
VIBROCORD with
VIBCODE transducer
and measurement stud
VIBCODE transducer
The VIBCODE transducer contains a code ring sensor and a combined
vibration/shock pulse sensor for measurement of machine vibration,
bearing condition and cavitation. The transducer locks onto the
VIBCODE stud via bayonet mount in optimum position and with
consistent pressure. Trend readings are taken with perfect repeatabil-
ity regardless of operator qualification and training.
The code ring sensor reads the tooth pattern of the plastic ring in the
measurement stud to determine its location so that the correct types
of measurement can be taken. Mixups, erroneous trend deviations
and time-consuming repeat measurements are all eliminated once
and for all.
The VIBCODE transducer plugs into sensor input A on the VIBRO-
CORD data collector (see page 2-7).

Trigger sensor
Tle trigger sensor detects changes in contrast on rotating parts such
as shafts and couplings. When the contrast mark on the shaft passes
the trigger lens, the sensor emits an electrical pulse to the VIBRO-
CORD. The resulting sequence of voltage pulses is used to determine
the shaft RPM.
Thanks to its advanced design, the trigger sensor is not affected when
moved horizontally. Its specialized optics guarantee maximum sensi-
tivity in rotation direction when mounted correctly (as illustrated
below).
